Thanks Beth for a great tutorial, never thought about %'s before, suddenly it becomes clear, will try a couple of samples over the weekend, keep your fingers get a crossed.
This was excellent information! Your demonstration and teaching method is easy to understand. Thank you for that. I have one question about cutting the neckband. Is it cut on the straight of grain or the bias?
Hi Kathleen, Thank you so much. I'm so glad that it was helpful. For the neckband, you'll want to cut on the crossgrain (perpendicular to the selvage). For woven fabric, you'd cut on the bias for the extra stretch. But with knits, usually the cross grain will give you plenty of stretch and still have some stability. I've accidentally cut a band parallel to the selvage before and it definitely did not stretch enough. You can pull on your fabric to see which direction stretches best.
Thank you so much for the prompt answer! Working on a knit top right now and the first time go round the neckband was much too large. I looked for information and that's when I found you! I will continue to subscribe and soak in all your info. Very impressed so far!
Great question. I'm using my Lou Box Top pattern here and the neckband is 1.75 inches wide and I'm using a 3/8 inch seam allowance. I like to use a slightly wider neckband and bigger seam allowance because I think it's easier to handle.

thank you! I'm feeling very confident & pumped to sew my knits
Yay! I'm so glad. :)
Oh, this video is the best explanation I have found Thank you!
I'm so glad that it was helpful!
Thanks for a very helpful video - I loved seeing the result of the experiment. What percentage was the neckband that you first attached?
This was really helpful! Thank you.
Awesome video, so helpful, thanks xx

Very helpful. Thank you! 💕
great tutorial! Wondering did you make or buy your ironing ham?
Technically neither. The ham actually belonged to my grandmother. But I'm pretty sure that she made it. :) Goes to show that they last a long time.
👌
When topsstitching around the neckline on n stretch fabric, what stitch did you use on this video?
I'm using a straight stitch with a twin needle.
How wide was your neckband?
