The only thing I hated was how easily Freydis was given the Sword of Kings. The amount of shit Ragnar / Sons had to go through to earn that sword, and it’s freely given away…. 🙄

Looked forward to the new show being a lifelong viewer of Vikings and binged it over the weekend. Most of the events this season revolved around historical events in the 1014-1017 period with some pretty far-out outliers that were shoe-horned in to meet the compressed timeline (St. Brice's Day massacre, Lief's first travel to Norway, presence of Harald Hadrada, and Sven Forkbeard actually showing up). All in all though I thought it was really well-done and the acting was on par with the original Vikings show.

Svend Tveskæg (986-1014) was the son of King of Denmark Harald Blåtand (911-986). Svend ruled Denmark, Norway and England, England from 1013 to 1014.
Knud den Store (the Great) ruled Denmark 1018-1035, England 1016-35 and Norway 1028-1035.
I really cant wait for the next season to see Denmarks history being Danish myself :)
I'm pretty sure our current Queen Dronning Margrethe II traces her lineage back to the king Harald Blåtand.
Not sure if this is true but I've heard that Bjørn Jernside is part of the current Swedish Royaltys ancestors.

Other than the insanely out of place casting of Jarl Haakon, a mistake I hope they can avoid in further seasons, I quite enjoyed it.
Though no one stands out as Ragnar, Floki, Lagertha, Bjorn, Ivar, or even Ubbe did…Leif and Harald were still entertaining enough. Hopefully finds more of a voice as things go on.

Although i like lief and haralds relationships i pretty much already know where the show is going because of it. Possible spoilers; Harald is gonna end up being the darth vader of the show, once his personal life comes into conflict with his ambition he will choose ambition and will most likely be the hardest thing for lief and fraydus to overcome. Especially after lief ends up killing haralds brother.

Ermm a black women as ruler of viking isn't historically right man? I wouldn't have black in it don't get me wrong but don't give them white people handy downs created a new character instead of making the ruler who was a white male as a black women......

@@hazey0363 yeah you know who cares if the story is great - which was for me. I don´t get that somebody has a problem with it. The actress is a real Viking - she is badass and swedish, did a great job. And historically there were black and mixed raced vikings - they had an inflow from all over the known world - mostly by slave trade, came with their success.
      - but - mostly the series is fantasy, Kattegat never existed as a city at that time etc etc.

Didn’t see Vikings, I will now. This show was great! Well done, super well paced, great actors. No stupid unnecessary sex or using women’s naked bodies just for eye candy, just a solid good story. And love how they respect the female characters: these women are strong & smart. The men are great too.
Got me looking up historical stuff, so that is good reading.
However, the history of this world has been based on so much killing because my god is better than your gods. Today’s Russian invasion is similar in nature: killing because they kill because they can. Sad aspect of humans.

I find myself doing the same thing as you, researching these characters and the accuracy of their depiction.
And for the most part, irbid accurate. I know they fudge the timelines a little bit to keep the flow, but I haven’t found any glaring inaccuracies.
And I’m educating myself in these amazing people.
And you are right, some of the movies do show the strength of the females.

This show was one of the most offensive things I have ever seen. It completely mocked northern European culture and reduced one of the Rock Stars of the Viking second age, Jarl Haakon Sigurdson - a great northern European male warrior, leader and hero of Norway, Denmark and Sweden - into a black woman???? Highly insulting!
I look forward to their next production where Shaka Zulu, hero king of the Zulu nation, is played by Angelina Jolie or Gal Gadot!
