    Quick correction. In the video I said to enter Cambodia on a tourist visa and then change it to a retirement visa. You actually need to get an E Type, not a tourist visa, in order to change it to a retirement visa.

    I'm a Surin person living in USA. I just visited Cambodia twice and I think the country have a bright future despite the major difficulties they took from the past. The Khmers are some of the hardest workers and determine people compared to the Lao and Myanmar people. For Thailand, I think what makes us a slow moving country in terms of development is that we have over 40 million Tai-Lao people that are quite lazy and unproductive to our society. In the Isan region alone there are over 20 million of these Lao-Tai people which is far larger than the whole population of Cambodia combined. The Khmer people have shaped and develop this region over 2,000 years. We have seen ups and downs.

    Your list of Thailand retirement requirements is not accurate. You’ve mixed OA requirements with O requirements.
    For example, you don’t need health insurance, a criminal check, translations, medical certificate or notarization for o retirement visa.
    Also there’s no such thing as a multiple entry retirement visa. That’s the reentry permit

My experience has shown that in Cambodia you will be more included into the local communities you live in participate in and it seems like (to me at least) the cities have anything you would ever need alongside countyside living being quiet and relaxing....I'm also team Cambodia, but to each his own...or is it their own... own?

    I moved to Cambodia last year as a retiree. The online portal Type E visa to enter the country was USD 42.00 and the renewable ER (retiree) 12 month extension of stay was USD 290.00 through an agent.

    • @Jeffr0-y1f
      @Jeffr0-y1f 9 дней назад +1

      With that visa can you come and go as you please? (i.e. leave Cambodia)? Can you spend as much time as you want OUTSIDE Cambodia in a calendar year?

    • @leeemerson2235
      @leeemerson2235 8 дней назад +1

      @@Jeffr0-y1f It's a multiple entry visa. As far as I know, there is no minimum amount of time you need to stay inside Cambodia during the visa extension. However, if and when you apply to renew the extension of stay, your agent will ask your landlord for a screenshot of your residence (rental) in the FPCS system. Thus, you need to have a residence when you go to renew the extension of stay. You can find guesthouse rooms for rent for under USD 150 per month, no problem. The FPCS is accessible by landlords and property owners, not by renters.

    • @Jeffr0-y1f
      @Jeffr0-y1f 7 дней назад +1

      @@leeemerson2235 Thanks for the info. So If I understand what you're saying, as long as one has proof of residence in Cambodia then there's no problem to renew the extension of stay - even if one just leased a room a few days before applying for extension. As long as the info is in the FPCS system, all good.
      Do you know if those sub-$150 US rooms are in SR or PP?
      Cheers buddy 🍺

    • @leeemerson2235
      @leeemerson2235 7 дней назад +1

      @@Jeffr0-y1f SR has guesthouse rooms under USD 150 per month, for sure. Note that not all landlords speak English. Still, a lot of people in SR speak English because it is a tourist town. The smart move would be to look for a rental during the dry season and before Cambodian New Year when the tourists are not here. That means mid-November to the end of March. You'll have a lot more choices for housing. Allow 10 calendar days for an extension of stay but it typically takes 7 days. If you are 55 yo or older, the retiree visa process is straightforward. If under 55 yo, you may be asked for proof of income. Of course, your passport must be valid for 6 months beyond the expiration of the renewed extension. As far as I know, there's no set income threshold for a retiree visa. You can live here on USD 1,000 per month.

    Hey Ryan, do you know if one has to spend a minimum number of days in Cambodia on the retirement visa? For example, let's say you get the RV on April 28th 2025 (good for 1 yr). You then leave on a flight to the US on June 14th. While in the US you remember you like summer and autumn there, so you've decided to stay till December 1st, then fly back to Cambodia on the 2nd. Can you get back in, easy peasy, on your retirement visa, even though you only spent a handful of months in Cambodia during the calendar yr? As I understand it, the Cambodian RV is multi-entry and would still be valid till April 28th 2026. Thoughts?

      I know a bunch of single women that live here and feel safe. They do say it's hard to date here though.
      As for housing, a local house or apartment is much much cheaper, and it's cooler (temperature wise).

    Your videos to include this one are excellent. Commenters are idiots to compare Cam. and Thailand. It is like comparing freshly grilled Alaska Salmon with Texas Prime Rib. It’s all based on one’s tastes and preferences. Both countries are Theravada Buddhist and have much more in common than differences. Additionally Phnom Penh and Bkk may have more in common than Bkk and Chiang Mai. Vast differences depending upon where you live in each country.

      Yes. And in Cambodia there are fewer cities that westerners would consider options to live. You've got the big city, Phnom Penh. The quiet river town, Kampot. The beach town, Kep. And Siem Reap. In Thailand I can think of 7 or 8 cites that expats live.

    For me -- it's the Govt. restrictions - and requirements - the visa laws - and the fewer English speaking locals - that eliminates Thailand from 'my' retirement consideration ! --- They suck. --- Cambodia is my 2nd choice - yet - the country has many qualities which I prefer even over my # 1 choice. -?- The - "deal breaker" --- for me --- is the '''excruciating''' heat & humidity !!! > Can't take it. Too old and unable to cope with it. - - - Leaves me with very damn few alternatives in S E Asia ( ! ) now doesn't it ??? --- Fortunately - there are a 'select few' locations -- in the Philippines -- that are 2,000 ft. and 5,000 ft. -- above sea level -- that offer significantly cooler temps. for most - if not all of the year ! ((🤗)) A life saver for people like me - who don't need the beach - or the sweat all the time !!! (uch) --- The cost of living is even a bit less + everyone speaks English --&-- are just as friendly and welcoming as in Cambodia !!!!! 🤗 Makes for my ideal retirement destination.... ❤ 👍 🙏 👊 👋 🍺

This past week, the song debuts at the #1 on the Billboard Global 200 Excluding the US and at #4 on the Billboard Global 200 Including the US. And, she has just been added to the headliners of the Global Citizen Festival slated for 28 September at NYC's Central Park.

    I’ve been on team Thailand for life, although I enjoyed my trip to Cambodia. My potential biggest sunk fallacy cost is I can read and write Thai and speak at a lower intermediate level. Yes, a lot of time and pain went into communicating in Thai - terribly.
    But the cost and increasing complexities of getting a long-term visa in Thailand is off-putting.
    Drinking in Bangkok is as expensive as America. Even in Washington DC, I had happy hour at my local downtown bar. A buck a beer.
    I cannot remember the last time you could buy a beer for a dollar in Thailand outside of a convenience store. Alcohol taxes are sky high. So is VAT, which is why you have to sell organs on the black market to buy decent wine, or any imported food items.
    I reckon you need $36,000k a year to live decently in Bangkok. $20,000 seems to fit the bill in Phnom Penh.
    And I could basically early retire in Cambodia next year, while Thailand is a ways to go.
    Decisions, decisions…
