X308 has not only unique hood opening style and leaping cat, but moonroof from steel, single windshield wiper and vertical fuel tank cap, very unique features. X350 has only the leaper on the hood, that's all.
@@LowTechGarage I forgot to mention the classic handbrake as well. Only 1996-2006 XKs can boast with a cooler one. By the way, have you ever considered to buy XKR of that generation?
This is my favorite video of yours. And I think you absolutely nailed this one Grand Slam Out of The Park! Chances are the ball you hammered home didn’t hit a Jag in the parking lot either because these are also somewhat unique and rare! Slightly hard to come by! Especially when it comes to the last of the last true Jags. EXQUISITE JOB! p.s. it has that special rear ‘Jag’ suspension too doesn’t it ? That was used for a rather long time. That signature rear Jag suspension that I know I found an article on wiki for. Can’t remember what it was called. Not sure if the XJR after this one had it. And let’s face it this body style was used by Jaguar for a long long time....since 1968 was it? So long and so much so that it became a signature of JAGUAR and synonymous with JAG. I’ll bet money that the one that came immediately after this one ( immediately after the 308 ) broke some hearts of any old staff that were left and worked on these XJs for a long long time. Actually the one in charge of our XJRs did die very suddenly, likely helping to quickly usher out this classic classy era. Sadly. And regrettably. Had he lived to be 92 and not retired I can only speculate what might have happened. Maybe the 308 would have had a lot longer run?? One can only speculate I think. But there was an untimely death at Jag. We can find this on Wiki when we search Jaguar XJR. And soon after an aluminum pop can Jag??? Yikes! Sorry but as for me I’m a purist. I don’t appreciate the bastardization and slow butchering of a classic icon. I’m very sorry this fellow at Jag died so soon. Very sorry I can’t remember his name but I believe we owe much of keeping and perfecting this absolute work of art and perfected icon to him! May he never be forgotten!
Owning two X308 (XJ8 and XJR) for many years here in Germany you are taking the words out of my mouth. FORD did a great job on Jaaags and saved the legend. I´m looking forward for more content on your XJR.
There was a time when people said you don’t screw around with a masterpiece too much. You don’t revolutionize an icon. You refine it. You perfect it. That time was probably 1997 - 2003 for Jaguar. And BORN was the X308 XJR!!!!! Love the heavy RETRO CLASSIC STYLING YET just modern enough to seem really modern! This is timeless !!!!!! Sooo timeless !!!!!! What a timeless automobile!!!!
I want to say again that although they moved to V8s and that wasn’t really a Jag thing to do it still didn’t stray away from what was a British Car thing. If it was a supercharged 4 cylinder front wheel drive I’d say NOOOO or a V6 or V10 NOOOO but a very well executed V8 was in line with what a large classic British 4 door sedan could do! :) Not out of line with tradition completely.
I have to agree with your assessment. This was the last of the old world Jags. The X350 harbored in a new world order of Jaguars. Chunkier and taller. Thankfully the X308 doesn't have the pneumatic suspension. The X308 is lower, longer, sleeker and looks crouched down, as a cat ready to pounce would look like. I took some friends out to several wineries this weekend. They commented on the leg room and the visibility the car afforded. The X308, Super V8 is an exceptional vehicle.
I have an x308 with the CATS suspension and I really love it, idk what the standard suspension is like but mine rides like a dream. It's at 155k miles but is legitimately the smoothest ride I've ever been in and it has so much power and a beautiful torque curve. As far as a craftsmanship goes, the x308 XJR is up there with every top vehicle at the time. I plan on putting in the LSD and doing the same upgrades that you've already done.
I think that for the JAGUAR BUFF/real die hard consumer that has gained an appreciation of Jaguar cars regardless of any reasons at all this will be defined and will come to be REGARDED and KNOWN as THE LAST TRUE JAGUAR! But even if they do and even if they don’t the reasons are highly important and also interesting too. And there is good reason why this is the last of the last AND ID EVEN SAY THIS IS THE MOST JAG OF ALL JAGUAR CARS and they saved the best for last.....as it came right at the end of a long line of Jaguar history! And DAMNNNN IT NEEDS TO HAVE THAT CLASSIC HOOD ORNAMENT!!!!! AND IT DOES!!!! The cherry on the cake! :)
I’ve noticed that what came immediately after the X308 looks a bit Japanese and a bit like the Nissan Skyline if I’m not mistaken. They seem a bit PINCHED to me. Maybe times were getting pinchy.
I've had and XJ40, X300, and now X308 and yes I agree with you it's the last true Jag, but atleast the X350 still looks like a Jag. I wouldn't mind having it except for that air suspension I hear goes commonly bad.
@ Josh Hello Josh! I made the trip to Toronto with no problems to report. 3000 miles from Alberta Canada to downtown Toronto in the 1998 black on black Jaguar XJR supercharged 4.0 L V8. I arrived at end of August. 4 full days and 3 nights of driving. As I’ve said above absolutely no problems to report save for using just a bit of oil. The low coolant light came on when the air temperature was cold. But it went away when things warmed up as I drove more southward. My last oil change was on August 6 about a month ago. I now have about 3,500 miles on this oil. Before that July 3rd. And before that about a year with the full engine replacement and the oil change it came with where the car just sat until I got it back in mid May. So the replacement motor has now had a total of 3 oil changes since it was installed. 3.5 months of driving it. 6 weeks about on the first oil. 1 month on the second oil And now about 1 month on the 3rd oil and that was on the long drive to Toronto where I’m at now. I intend to leave this oil in all fall and winter until I get the car back next May. Josh, when I topped up my oil during this long trip because it had used a little I overfilled it a little. After letting it sit for about 5 days I checked it and it is about half an inch or a bit less over the full mark on the dip stick. I feel like a real dip stick for doing this. :( Do you think I have anything to worry about ? Also I should add that it took 5.5 L during the last oil change and I added the other half L to make it 6 L in total. That was just a bit too much. I thought it would surely take more oil but it didn’t. -- Greg P.s. I’ve decided to hold on to the car The cruise control worked very nicely Pleasure to drive at about 90 miles / hour When I had to slow down I just hit the hidden resume speed button located just slightly under and beside the steering wheel on the top of the steering column and the car would just very quickly kick down and blast off back up to 90 miles per hour where I had it set at. While cruise control was on or back up to speed and on again the gas pedal felt as light as a feather and I could feather it with my foot and easily get even more speed and smooth effortless acceleration from about 90 miles / h up to around 100 m / hour. I drove this way pretty much all night with no other cars around. Highway 17 TransCanada From Kenora Ontario all the way to Sudbury Ontario, Canada via ThunderBay and just north of far northern
Reply to Josh @ Josh I think these cars are good for long drives and if we baby it a little it will take care of us. This was like Denver to New York or a bit longer. Florida to Seattle would be a great trip or Florida to New England. I’m a bit worried that I have just slightly too much oil in it but it seems to be happy where it is. 1/3 of a US Quart too much I think. I’m going to University of Toronto full time and it is such a pleasure to have an excellent car available here for the weekends. 94 octane gasoline and a car wash is what is bit to bat. I’m going to try to visit Stephen Kings house in New England in Maine around Halloween. I’m his biggest fan. And I’m sure he will think it is Christine come to life. LOL Greg
@ Josh I’ve said so before, this is my favorite video I’ve seen of yours. 100% agree this is the last true Jaguar. X308 V8 One other reason it is true that comes to mind for me is the staff they had working on these. They had the OLD SCHOOL STAFF detail hard at work on these AND at the time that FORD took over ownership there was some fear that FORD would behave like Nazis and absolutely slaughter Jaguar. To many it came as a surprise that FORD was quite hands off and just let the old school staff just go at it and just said go ahead and create your idea of a most modern 90s era classic Jaguar sedan with an original Jaguar V8. The guy behind these X308s sadly died quite young shortly thereafter and he was quickly replaced. The old saying follows , they had the old school staff on hand for the creation of these best of the best and you don’t revolutionize a classic icon. you refine it. you improve it. You nurture it. You don’t let the baby out with the bath water and that’s what they did and didn’t do. You carefully and thoughtfully improve it and modernize it. You keep and preserve what’s great about the old models it is based on while enhancing some of the features that had become a bit outdated for the time. The result is a modern classic. I don’t know every detail about this but my guess will be that after the X308 it wasn’t the old school staff working on the new aluminum Jaguars any longer. For those folds it was the end of an era! This is also why this is the last of the last and best of the best of the last true Jags. My hats off to FORD for being so hands off in their approach and for respecting the folks that knew these so well. They knew as well that you don’t go in and butcher an icon and work of art. And they left most of it to those that knew these best ! It must have been very rewarding for all those involved. No sense of alienation working on the modernization of the masterpiece. :) Whatever is the opposite of alienation I think they had it. I’ll bet they felt proud of what they were creating. I’ll bet they felt like wow this is the best Jaguar we ever made and wow a supercharged V8 wow how exciting!!!! I’ll bet those were happy fulfilling satisfying days at Jaguar in England! :) And it was popular and it turned heads and it was king of the hill for a while. Even beat the Germans for a while. These are sure to become extremely collectible I’d think. The Supercharged R models especially!!
I have had two X308 XJR's since 2006, my current one is a 2002 which has been in the family since 2008, I took off my dads hands in 2014 and sold my old one on due to the fact my one had 130,000 miles on it and was doubtful I would ever find one in the same condition as my fathers 46,000 at the time, I believe there was only 15,000 on it when he bought it. I only use it as a weekend toy and just for going out fore a drive really, Its never been out in the rain since we have owned it as I have a normal car as a daily which is probably the reason my XJR only has 54,000 on it now. Been wanting to sell it on for a few years now but just can't seem to part with her, I might go 2 to 3 weeks even a month during the winter without driving it but as soon as I get back in I'm hooked again, these cars are so addictive you feel like a junky sometimes eagerly waiting for your next hit of XJR goodness.
It depends on what the majority of JAG fans will think over time but they will tend to have their reasons and for good reason. I think this is where JAG perfected the JAG! It’s the best example of the most perfected JAG that is also the most JAGESK! 1 ) it needs to drive and ride and handle like a Jag. 2 ) it needs to look like a Jag 3 ) it needs to be smooth and very powerful and fast. 4 ) it needs to be big and luxurious 5 ) it needs the classic hood ornament The paint needs to be good like a Jag and it needs to be traditionally made out of iron and steel and chrome wood and leather. This one does all of these perfectly It was about an improvement and a perfection of a Jag It was not about redefining Jag So I agree This is very very likely the last true Jag! I did suspect this too. But I really wasn’t sure until after seeing this video and thinking it over for myself. This car stays TRUE to TRADITION and it ARRIVES AT A PERFECTION OR IT IS A VERY GOOD ATTEMPT AT A PERFECTION OF A TRADITION.
I’m kind of new to Jags but my understanding is when Ford took over ownership rather than dictate and redesign they let the people that had been with Jaguar in England for a long time retain much control and have at it. Modernize but create the best ideal JAG possible. That came from them. The XJR 308 is it known as...from 1997 to 2003. I’m not a big fan of Ford but my hat goes off to them for letting them do that. They did the very opposite of just going in, taking over and BUTCHERING JAGUAR CARS. While creating a fresh yet classic and financially viable product. Bet the staff felt the opposite of whatever alienated is too. THIS MAKES IT VERY JAG! MAYBE THE BEST JAG. SAVING THE VERY BEST FOR LAST! Like a fine champagne they released some special vintage years. That fine product had been developing and aging for years like a fine wine. This makes me very very curious as to what happened with management immediately after this series of JAG XJR was finished?? Lots retired and new people came in ? More control from outside of Jaguar? If so I’d say an even stronger case for this being the last true JAG!
I just found your channel today and subscribed I just got my first jaguar vanden plas last year and fell in love with them I've got a 99 model and I'm currently restoring it and I'm going to start collecting them they are hard to find nowadays
I am currently looking for a XJR and was contemplating 308 vs 350. Aside from the big differences i like the clam shell hood, the top mount fuel cap, the hand brake, and the single wiper. The only small feature the 350 has that i think is bettwr is having a nice growler emblem on the steering wheel. 308 it is for me now.
Had this model continued on longer *** ( the person behind it died suddenly an untimely death, well too early in life to die and was abruptly replaced by more of a techie sort of guy I think ) **** I feel like they would have added a new redesigned modern V12 to this car. I say this because it was a JAG thing to start with and most of their competitors were at least offering small V12s such as the small 5.0 V12 that Toyota was offering. But got to blow people away with the new V8 first . Them WOW them with offering both after that.
@ Josh Thank you for all of your timely advice. This should be my very last question of questions. On a 1998 Jaguar XJR can one simply disconnect the battery and replace the battery that is in the trunk without needing to reset the computer electronics? My shop has now replaced the battery twice and disconnecting the battery was the very first thing they did. *** Now they have completely replaced the entire engine. The car’s transmission immediately went into limp mode on test drive. They tell me the transmission must have just broke by itself while sitting at their shop. I got to thinking that replacing the battery to start with and then the engine replacement might have effected the electronics And I wanted to ask you if they needed to perform any sort of reset on the electronics?? They say now it was a transmission sensor and now also a CPU that they have went ahead and ordered. But can they just disconnect things such as the battery and the engine and reconnect without throwing the car into limp mode or restricted performance??? Is my question Seems to me they might have needed to do some kind of electronics reset. What do you think ?
You can perform a basic reset of the ECU by taking the positive and negative terminals of the battery leads and holding them together for 30 seconds (while disconnected from the battery) I am not sure if this will net you the result you’re looking for but it’s worth a shot. The transmission in the x308 XJR specifically is not usually a failure point. Best of luck to you!
@Josh Thank you for your advice and timely expertise. At the shop it was revealed today that when they replaced the engine the technician had the battery cables incorrectly touching the engine directly. The technician has since been dismissed and replaced. The problem has been found and corrected. After servicing the transmission and replacing the computer module for the transmission we are still in 2nd gear limp mode. They have now taken to replacing the computer module for the engine. Waiting for that to arrive. They hope it will get the car out of limp mode. The new mechanic there that is now in charge of this said if that doesn’t work he has run out of ideas. I asked him if he knows if an electrical reset was ever performed that he knows of?? And if that might be needed? He said 1998 is too old for these cars to be able to do that. It isn’t able to be done on a car this old he said. I suspect that they have fried something by incorrectly hooking up the battery cables to the replacement engine. This explains why they have taken to replacing all the computer modules. Other than that he said that mechanically the transmission looks good. Greg From Canada
@ LTG As you already may know this is my favorite of your RUclips spindacular presentations. Mmmm yesss the last true JAG! I think that to the Jaguar world what came after the X308 was a bastardization they tried to slip in the back door just under the radar and it didn’t quite make it.....the boys and girls in the Jaguar world didn’t quite buy it but they did end up buying it. But as a purist refined icon they didn’t quite buy it. Not with all that aluminum. Impossible. But important point is that it was seen as something of a bastardization of the masterpiece rather than a refinement or an improvement of. Alternatively, when the V8 came out on the X308 it was viewed as a further refinement and or improvement of an Icon by the majority of the Jaguar world. An icon improved and perfected! This is crucial. To understand how it was viewed by the majority of the Jaguar world. And why? And how! That’s a New York joke. And how. Back to the point I’m trying to make. We can sit back and make the argument all we like that the last of the V12s were the last true JAGS and the new V8s were a departure from that BUT I don’t think that’s how the Jag world seen it at the time and I don’t think that’s how the Jag world sees it now. THATS IMPORTANT! But yet there are also important reasons for this that the X308 is seen in the Jag world as the improvement refinement and perfection of an icon. My guess is the retro styling and so much of it or shall we say enough of it was kept the same as those Jaguar sedans that came before it. One gets the impression of what Jaguar was aiming at here. Ohhh and they still had the iconic hood ornament too!!!!!!!! AND what that is symbolic of! NICE TOUCH !!!! You can only change an icon so much before it reaches the threshold of becoming an out and out bastardization. I believe in the X308 XJR they perfected a masterpiece! Important too is to see the legacy of the staff that were at STILL at Jaguar at the time and what FORD’s approach was with them. What were they aiming at when they made the X308 XJR ? What did the creators of it really have in mind? It all plays in. Personally to me the last of the V12s were the last true true JAGS! Obviously right ? Nooooo just joking. I’m pulling your leg right off !!!!! Those were one of the last. The supercharged V8 was a beautiful improvement and perfection on an icon. They took the old supercharged straight 6 and the old V12 and went right in the middle of the two! Look at the size even. The CC radio is still the same. 3.0 L for the six . 6.0 L for the V12. The new V8 had to be a 4.0 L of course. Best, Greg From Canada P.s. they have my old motor out now and the new replacement motor has arrived. Work is taking place. Things look like they have finally started. New Engine mounts need to be ordered. Lots of seals and gaskets. I now own the only two of these V8s that are known of to be out of cars in all of Canada! The only two left in Canada! ( as told to me by the owner of the shop ) My old supercharger looks to be the one we will use! :) WOW! The only two in existence in ALL of CANADA!!!!!!! Unbelievable!!!!!!
Really great video! I enjoyed it thoroughly and own an X308 Vanden Plas which I treasure. However, I think "The last true CLASSICAL Jaguar" may have been a better title because what you are really conveying is that the X308 embodied most all of the CLASSICAL Jaguar features/styling/feel. The X350 and subsequent cars are every bit as much a Jaguar as anything they've ever built for no other reason than they own the name and whatever they choose to put the leaper/growler on is a 100% legitimate Jaguar whether we like it or not.
Hi Josh. i wouldn't thank you for any of the new models. they don't look like jags in my opinion. now we have you as a jag fan i think it's high time you called it a jag you are, not a jagwaaaaar...
X350! 😍 Original Jags were always about performance, handling and style. Gorgeous cars that still offered true functional innovation. The 350 had an aluminum body. There is no feature that offers a greater benefit, on any car, than light weight. Racing Jags were always about lightness. Technical innovation/refinement, like disc brakes, were a hallmark of Jaguar. This innovation was carried on in the 350 with the VVT engine, 6 speed transmission and air suspension. No gimmicks, just engineering. Cheers
@ Josh Josh Josh I don’t think it gets said nearly enough but Josh makes very good videos and I think I can speak for nearly everyone when I say we like seeing him talk about his XJR and talk about modern Jaguar sedans in general. I love to see him express himself and give his educated experienced very knowledgeable opinion on these. Lecture away Josh !!!!! We love it !!!! We love you!!!!
Test drive today went very very badly. Smoke coming out of the vents Smoke coming out from under the car They just ran a coolant value right over the top of the supercharger It blew up right ? So to fix it they just jimmied a line right over top of the supercharger I don’t even know if that is safe The engine oil was over the full mark Headlights still broken Not fixed as promised and they broke those Rear Bumper is damaged now Then we drove it Transmission would not CHANGE GEARS warming lights coming on in the dash display Check Gear Box Check engine Low coolant level Warning warning warning We were at 4000 rpm going only 35 mph Car sat for over 8 months Transmission isn’t shifting We had to open the windows the smoke coming in the vents was so bad
THere is or has been demand for the wealthy English man to hit the SOUTH OF FRANCE very quickly and in style and make it QUICKLY back again. And do it and be back to work again in understated elegance but in something strong and solid and safe and heavy and fast. Also comfortable. And stylish. To various degrees ALL of the expensive British sedans have filled that need or want ( life style ) and Jaguar is naturally no exception to this. As at home in the south of France and in Italy as in the executive parking lot in greater London. Not bad on the German Autobahn too. A JECKLE and HIDE British LIFE STYLE IN efined elegance and class !!! :)
Daimler actually made a 2,5Litres V8, back in the 60s. AJV8 was made by Jaguar, they also could have used FORDs 4,6Litres V8, but decided to build their own V8. AJV8 was voted Top Ten of all Engines made in the year 2000, by WARDs. I really like how silent these X308s are. I use a Nulaxy FM Radiotransmitter to connect Mobile, and play Audio, works easy, and cheap to buy.
As for large 4 door British Cars V8s are not uncommon. Keith’s 1965 Blue Lena had a V8. It’s not essential to be a Jag that is be a V12 or a straight 6. Definitely an improvement and a perfection and not a Jag redefining Jag. So again yes this is very likely the last true Jag.
@ Josh This is still my favorite video of yours you made. Do you enjoy the car? Are you 100% satisfied? Is it everything you expected of it? Does it meet and surpass your highest expectations of the last true Jaguar? Is there anything you would ask/expect more of it ? I can say that my old 2003 BMW felt heavier and more solid I think. BUT it is likely not a fair comparison. A Jag is a Jag. A Beemer is a Beemer. Right? The fellow from Bavaria, Germany ‘Interceptor’ seems very happy with his XJR X308. Going down the autobahn with a smile on its face. :)
@ Josh They washed it and waxed it today. Fully detailed it inside and out for being at the shop since Dec 15 Almost finished! On first start up they blew a coolant hose/line. Found a vacuum lead in the supercharger and also decided to change the supercharger pulley belt. All issues seem to be fixed now. Tomorrow change back to summer tires. After summers are on they will do a first test drive. I wouldn’t allow them to drive it with my new Nokian snow tires still on it in late summer up here. I’ll be there. For test drive. Let’s hope it is running great! No more issues. Find out soon I think.
Josh, I love my 350, I've owned 5 of them and i think they are fabulous. My current ones are the 2008 XJR w 80, 000 miles and a 2007 XK with 15k on it. They ruined it with the 2011 Jags. I would never own one. Im on #11 and #12 Jags. Enjoy your segments.
@ Josh We got up to start up and they got it running. Big delay after that and my shop has not gotten back to me for an update. They are being very rude to keep me in the dark on this. Completion date was FRIDAY FRIDAY came and went without an update and unbelievable to me SATURDAY came and went without an update. Our deal was if they don’t finish on Friday they need to work on it throughout their weekend. Visited the shop and did not see any work going on. Very disappointing and irritating. The OWNER did message me directly on Friday night to say they got it running. He has a full time job as a mechanical engineer with 18 hour days 14 days straight so... Greg From Canada
Thank you for your reassurance. I would think so too but not many updates such as ‘running well’ Maybe no news is good news. This is like pulling teeth because as soon as I get it back it is going to be driving 39 hours from Calgary to Toronto with it. Or putting it up in storage until May. One or the other. I’m going to try to make it down to the Radium hot springs in BC before I go via Banff and Lake Louise and Jasper, Alberta. If that all day trip down to Radium hot springs in BC goes smoothly I’ll consider taking it to University of Toronto with me, in downtown Toronto. If not I’ll put her up in storage until May 2024. Either way I’m going to take her right through the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains all the way on highway 93. That doesn’t go so well I’ll be coming back the same way. That trip does go very well it is going to be directly to Calgary on the transCanada highway and right across Canada until I get to Ontario and then down to Toronto. That metropolitan area of 7.5 million people is a bit intimidating rolling in there with the Jag for the very first time in there with a car but it should be okay as long as the car is in very good condition and I don’t go too fast. But I need it to be finished before I can depart.
I have to agree as well, the new Jaguar are not as classy. I own a 2002 XK8 its a heavier vehicle feel solid. Great leather interiors it just turn 100k it still runs brand new.
it feel like modern jaguar's are built to get attention while old jaguar's where built to be a luxury car which got attention. its like a child trying act cool compared to the old timer who did its job which made it cool
While x350/x358 is 7cm taller it is actually MORE of a classical Jag than 40/300/308. Why? It has the classical Jaguar rear end. Look at all the XJs before x351... Are you seriously going to pretend the rear end of 40/300/308 is a classic Jag? 😁🤡 Look at all the previous generations, then look at 40/300/308, then look at x350/x358, and then x351 - are you seriously gonna pretend the line is drawn between x308 and x350?
I think the X300 was the last true Jag due to last use of the legendary straight six, after that it all goes down hill. As a brit, it's all about the engine. X308 isn't as good as the X300, lots of issues.
Love this episode. I have a 2003 with 225,000 miles. Still rides fantastic
Awesome!
WOW!
This was the last Jag I agree. The elegant lines of the Jaguar X308 gives a presence on the road which stands out from the rest.
So true!
Wrong. x308 betrayed the classic Jaguar rear end. Thank god x350/x358 fixed that abomination before Jaguar abandoned the classical shape with x351.
X308 has not only unique hood opening style and leaping cat, but moonroof from steel, single windshield wiper and vertical fuel tank cap, very unique features. X350 has only the leaper on the hood, that's all.
Good facts!
@@LowTechGarage I forgot to mention the classic handbrake as well. Only 1996-2006 XKs can boast with a cooler one. By the way, have you ever considered to buy XKR of that generation?
x350 has the classical Jaguar rear end. x308 betrayed the classical rear end.
I have a x308, just a wonderful car.
So true!
Nailed it. If I can't have and Eagle E-type or an XJ220 then I'll take this. :)
Great choices 😀
We can find this on Wiki when we search
Jaguar XJR.
Thanks!
Owning two X308 (XJ8 and XJR) for many years here in Germany you are taking the words out of my mouth. FORD did a great job on Jaaags and saved the legend. I´m looking forward for more content on your XJR.
Thanks a lot for your comment! :)
100% agree with you. The X308 is the last old school. The 350 is still respectable but not the same.
The x350 is still great but definitely it the same as the steel body
heavier and rust-prone, what's not to like... also less reliable, and the rear end is just ugly
I want to say again that although they moved to V8s and that wasn’t really a Jag thing to do it still didn’t stray away from what was a British Car thing. If it was a supercharged 4 cylinder front wheel drive I’d say NOOOO or a V6 or V10 NOOOO
but a very well executed V8 was in line with what a large classic British 4 door sedan could do! :)
Not out of line with tradition completely.
You are right. We have two of them.
Nice!
💯👍and many petrolheads in France, Spain and Germany, where I do a lot of journeys with my X308 think the same.
🤘🏼
The newer the car is on the whole, the less does it look like a true car.
Most definitely agree.
It is the last true Jaguar 🐆
I have to agree with your assessment. This was the last of the old world Jags. The X350 harbored in a new world order of Jaguars. Chunkier and taller. Thankfully the X308 doesn't have the pneumatic suspension. The X308 is lower, longer, sleeker and looks crouched down, as a cat ready to pounce would look like. I took some friends out to several wineries this weekend. They commented on the leg room and the visibility the car afforded. The X308, Super V8 is an exceptional vehicle.
They are pure magic!
Very Nice! We plan to install an LSD as well!
agree 100%
💯
I’ve noticed that what came immediately after the X308 looks a bit Japanese and a bit like the Nissan Skyline if I’m not mistaken. They seem a bit PINCHED to me. Maybe times were getting pinchy.
I've had and XJ40, X300, and now X308 and yes I agree with you it's the last true Jag, but atleast the X350 still looks like a Jag. I wouldn't mind having it except for that air suspension I hear goes commonly bad.
We had an x350 and thoroughly enjoyed it as well.

Hello Josh!
1 month on the second oil
And now about 1 month on the 3rd oil and that was on the long drive to Toronto where I’m at now.
Do you think I have anything to worry about ?
Also I should add that it took 5.5 L during the last oil change and I added the other half L to make
it 6 L in total. That was just a bit too much.
I thought it would surely take more oil but it didn’t.
-- Greg
P.s. I’ve decided to hold on to the car
The cruise control worked very nicely
Pleasure to drive at about 90 miles / hour
When I had to slow down I just hit the hidden resume speed button located just slightly under and beside the steering wheel on the top of the steering column and the car would just very quickly kick down and blast off back up to 90 miles per hour where I had it set at.
Congratulations on your trip! I am sure that is a monumental milestone!

I think these cars are good for long drives and if we baby it a little it will take care of us.
LOL
Greg
@ Josh
I’ve said so before, this is my favorite video I’ve seen of yours.
100% agree this is the last true Jaguar. X308 V8
One other reason it is true that comes to mind for me is the staff they had working on these.
Whatever is the opposite of alienation I think they had it. I’ll bet they felt proud of what they were creating.
I’ll bet they felt like wow this is the best Jaguar we ever made and wow a supercharged V8 wow how exciting!!!!
I’ll bet those were happy fulfilling satisfying days at Jaguar in England! :)
And it was popular and it turned heads and it was king of the hill for a while. Even beat the Germans for a while.
These are sure to become extremely collectible I’d think. The Supercharged R models especially!!
I have a 2006 XJ8L & it drives like a beast! My 2008 XJ Vanden Plas just looks good!
The x350 platform is great too. We loved ours.
not sure if it is but a lot can agree Jag lost their way once 350 was released.
Let me know if you decide to sell
It depends on what the majority of JAG fans will think over time but they will tend to have their reasons and for good reason.
I think this is where JAG perfected the JAG!
It’s the best example of the most perfected JAG that is also the most JAGESK!
1 ) it needs to drive and ride and handle like a Jag.
2 ) it needs to look like a Jag
3 ) it needs to be smooth and very powerful and fast.
4 ) it needs to be big and luxurious
5 ) it needs the classic hood ornament
The paint needs to be good like a Jag and it needs to be traditionally made out of iron and steel and chrome wood and leather.
This one does all of these perfectly
It was about an improvement and a perfection of a Jag
It was not about redefining Jag
So I agree
This is very very likely the last true Jag!
Good information!
Awesome! Congratulations on the purchase. Thank you for subscribing, plenty more content to come!
Good luck with your search!
Them WOW them
with offering both after that.
@ Josh
Thank you for all of your timely advice.
This should be my very last question of questions.
On a 1998 Jaguar XJR can one simply disconnect the battery and replace the battery that is in the trunk without needing to reset the computer electronics?
My shop has now replaced the battery twice and disconnecting the battery was the very first thing they did. ***
Now they have completely replaced the entire engine.
Is my question
Seems to me they might have needed to do some kind of electronics reset. What do you think ?
You can perform a basic reset of the ECU by taking the positive and negative terminals of the battery leads and holding them together for 30 seconds (while disconnected from the battery)
I am not sure if this will net you the result you’re looking for but it’s worth a shot.
The transmission in the x308 XJR specifically is not usually a failure point. Best of luck to you!
@Josh
Thank you for your advice and timely expertise.

Best,
Greg
From Canada
P.s. they have my old motor out now and the new replacement motor has arrived. Work is taking place. Things look like they have finally started.
New Engine mounts need to be ordered. Lots of seals and gaskets. I now own the only two of these V8s that are known of to be out of cars in all of Canada!
The only two left in Canada! ( as told to me by the owner of the shop )
My old supercharger looks to be the one we will use! :)
WOW! The only two in existence in ALL of CANADA!!!!!!! Unbelievable!!!!!!
Last of the series 3 V12 is where I'm at. True Jag & most beautiful saloon car ever made. Daimler V12 series 3 best looking interior.
Can’t beat the V12 for its presence.
We are glad you enjoyed the video!
Hi Josh. i wouldn't thank you for any of the new models. they don't look like jags in my opinion. now we have you as a jag fan i think it's high time you called it a jag you are, not a jagwaaaaar...
We will be sure to say it the proper way on one of our future videos! 😃
@@LowTechGarage haha, it's one of those things that bug us Britts.......well that and your saggy headlining....can't wait to see that video.
Cheers
I loved the x350 we had. If you check our first videos you’ll see some of it!
Wonderful cars!
@@LowTechGarage Thanks for the info, I'll check it out!

I don’t think it gets said nearly enough but Josh makes very good videos and I think I can speak for nearly everyone when I say we like seeing him talk about his XJR and talk about modern Jaguar sedans in general. I love to see him express himself and give his educated experienced very knowledgeable opinion on these.
Lecture away Josh !!!!! We love it !!!! We love you!!!!

Test drive today went very very badly.
Smoke coming out of the vents
Smoke coming out from under the car
They just ran a coolant value right over the top of the supercharger
It blew up right ?
So to fix it they just jimmied a line right over top of the supercharger
I don’t even know if that is safe
The engine oil was over the full mark
Headlights still broken
Not fixed as promised and they broke those
Rear Bumper is damaged now
Then we drove it
Transmission would not CHANGE GEARS
warming lights coming on in the dash display
Check Gear Box
Check engine
Low coolant level
Warning warning warning
We were at 4000 rpm going only 35 mph
Car sat for over 8 months
Transmission isn’t shifting
We had to open the windows the smoke coming in the vents was so bad
You've obviously read my comments on this subject. It's a fact.
I like your username 👍🏼
Daimler actually made a 2,5Litres V8, back in the 60s.
AJV8 was made by Jaguar, they also could have used FORDs 4,6Litres V8, but decided to build their own V8.
AJV8 was voted Top Ten of all Engines made in the year 2000, by WARDs.
I really like how silent these X308s are.
I use a Nulaxy FM Radiotransmitter to connect Mobile, and play Audio, works easy, and cheap to buy.
They are really impressive engines
As for large 4 door British Cars V8s are not uncommon. Keith’s 1965 Blue Lena had a V8.
It’s not essential to be a Jag that is be a V12 or a straight 6. Definitely an improvement and a perfection and not a Jag redefining Jag.
So again yes this is very likely the last true Jag.
@ Josh
This is still my favorite video of yours you made.
Do you enjoy the car? Are you 100% satisfied?
Is it everything you expected of it?
Does it meet and surpass your highest expectations of the last true Jaguar?
Is there anything you would ask/expect more
of it ?
I can say that my old 2003 BMW felt heavier and more solid I think. BUT it is likely not a fair comparison.
A Jag is a Jag. A Beemer is a Beemer. Right?
The fellow from Bavaria, Germany ‘Interceptor’ seems very happy with his XJR X308.
Going down the autobahn with a smile on its face. :)
I love the XJR and its a long term keeper!
@ Josh
They washed it and waxed it today. Fully detailed it inside and out for being at the shop since Dec 15
Almost finished!
I’m glad you are enjoying the content! 350 is a great platform too!
@ Josh
We got up to start up and they got it running.
Big delay after that and my shop has not gotten back to me for an update.
They are being very rude to keep me in the dark on this.
Completion date was FRIDAY
FRIDAY came and went without an update and unbelievable to me SATURDAY came and went without an update.

It sounds like you are close although it being a frustrating process! You must be on the home stretch now.
Thank you for your reassurance.
I would think so too but not many updates such as ‘running well’
Maybe no news is good news.
Those XKs are lovely!
9:26-9:30 "forged internals"
No, none of the 4.0's got forged internals. Whether on NA or SC cars.
I misspoke, however they do have forged rods. The 4.2 has forged rods and pistons.
it feel like modern jaguar's are built to get attention while old jaguar's where built to be a luxury car which got attention. its like a child trying act cool compared to the old timer who did its job which made it cool
Good point
X308 xjr in UK had cats. And probably rest of world. Just USA avoided cats
02 & 03 US-spec XJRs came with the CATS suspension standard.
@@timdoyle3028 They we’re using up parts by then
Vanden Plas Supercharged had CATS for the US market.
While x350/x358 is 7cm taller it is actually MORE of a classical Jag than 40/300/308. Why? It has the classical Jaguar rear end.
Look at all the XJs before x351... Are you seriously going to pretend the rear end of 40/300/308 is a classic Jag? 😁🤡
Look at all the previous generations, then look at 40/300/308, then look at x350/x358, and then x351 - are you seriously gonna pretend the line is drawn between x308 and x350?
We loved our x350!
I think the X300 was the last true Jag due to last use of the legendary straight six, after that it all goes down hill. As a brit, it's all about the engine. X308 isn't as good as the X300, lots of issues.
We do enjoy the 4.0 L6 in our XJS. Great motor.
X308 looks a bit dated now, I think. Prefer the X350.
best part of the 308!! i feel like a bounty hunter or a villain driving in it 😂💯
is also heavy af and the rear end is ugly
yh, both x350 and even x358 are superior
