Nah, Rise looks incredible on Switch. Obviously if you compare to World on PC it's not in the same league. But holy crap does Rise look good on Switch. I've never seen a better looking handheld game.
Hey jays first few diaries of monster hunter helped get my gf to play mh rise with me. She freaking loves it now. :) She's a monster with dual blades and flying through the air lol.
just listened to the entire podcast in one sitting. It really is incredible how many amazing content creators go under the radar or just don't get enough exposure. I've been on the Hey Jay train ever since I first saw Gaijin and the MH community help him give the game a second chance after his initial critique, and it's been such a great journey all the way through Alatreon. Can't wait for his reactions for the Fatalis fight. Thanks Jay for all the fun times and thanks Ruri and Gaijin for bringing him on the podcast!
What’s most impressive about Jay is how quick he got through world/iceborne. He hasn’t got full builds, he doesn’t have a collection of decos and only a single health augment
1:41:50 "look at the monsters" That is exactly the reason why I wanted to play GU. Experience all the monsters that came before World. Once you get through the "tutorial" gathering quests and got used to the movement, the game just gives you one new monster after another. The different huter styles actually made up for the limited qol. They're just so much fun.
Love the mention of the RPG trifecta here. Something that I think a lot of people miss. BOTW's world was largely built by Monolithsoft. Xenoblade was central to making it happen.
I'm actually so interested in Rurikhans view and even Gaijins view on RNG pools. It's a topic I could talk so much about, because I find it's important topic to somehow find a solution that would solve both sides of the opinion. Such a great interview though. HeyJay has had such a journey with this game. Maybe one day he'll go back to older MH games as well.
Good episode, tho I fully disagree with the GU bad press, i know you are trying to keep expectations in check, but it is a great game, my favorite to this day, 4 u being a close second, and then probably rise. He may very well like it, have a bit of trust in that awesome game :) and just to be even clearer, even the parts people criticize, i love, i loved the risk reward of the older combat and movement. while I love rise and enjoy iceborne and sunk way too more hours in those (ups), the out of jail free cards with every weapon lower the experience to me

So, I fucking love the concept of the Equal Dragon Weapon. I really want them to dabble more into the Ancient Civ stuff TBH, it's such a weird little nugget of lore that I love and would love to see more of.
After the appearance of Toadversaries in Kamura village training area and buddy plaza made by Hamon, who could say may be MH team will use it someday. Although many would disagree with us two, it would be interesting to go through the ancient civilization quest line one day in Rise or next MH and the story takes us into abandoned island or some undiscovered city where once ancient civilization once thrived, it would be really interesting.
@@stephenjohn2131 Totally. There's a lot of weird stuff here and there that really shows just how bonkers the ancient civ was when it comes to how advanced they were. If you look at the Ahtal Ka fight, the big massive "Mecha" suit it makes, the stone has rebar in it. Rebar wasn't invented properly TMK till the mid 1900's or so. Then there's just how bonkers some of the weapons are. Namly the Charge Blade and Switch Axe.
@@Azarian I always get exited whenever someone discusses this. The details you noticed about Ahtal-Ka are fascinating. And yes the Ancient civilization is indeed bonkers for creating these weapons. Am a Chargeblade main and in hunts every now and then my thoughts get carried away thinking of the original blue prints of how AC created this weapon. And every smith uses their own method to adjust to hunters need. Hence the differences in every game imo. What is more curious to me than their craft is their absence. We see their structures, monuments and crafts everywhere but no where in any game do we find someone who has an idea on it's origin. Their story is much like dwarves lore in Skyrim who were also technologically much more advanced much like AC from MH. we see their pyramids, towers and a fully abandoned kingdom of shrade whilst having no clue about them. I hope the future games or Rise touches this path and involve it in game play one day. Lore is always there despite many others say MH doesn't, it's just that some look, read item descriptions and pay attention more than others. Iam all in for extra lore in MH games in the future.
@@stephenjohn2131 I could talk hours about MH lore theory crafting. I uh. May or may not be concepting an entire fan village around the idea of them specifically studying the AC. Even including a Scriviner who was assigned there to find out the exact relation the AC has with Monsters in general.
Gaijin, I'm going back through these old videos and if you haven't yet, please play remake. You'll love it and hate it, and see so much potential and get to experience so much nostalgia in New light. This has been super fun to listen to after watching Jay's chronicle of world.
The way Hey Jay! learned the game was so fun to watch and also eye-opening. I actually learned to properly take things step by step from the World journals and I didn't even realize I had to (re-?)learn that.
55:46 I knew he’s gonna say Kulve Taroth. I also couldn’t think of other fight that stands out among the rest other than KT. Everything about the final phase is just too good. Also the music; the music is a damn perfection! For me, music is a huge factor to the whole gameplay experience if not the most important factor. Good music usually means higher chance of good gameplay in my book. It’s just sad that I don’t have anyone to share my joy for Monster Hunter musics with. People around me aren’t as enthusiastic as i am about it
Hey jay to this day still thinks mr kulve is multiplayer exclusive. He didnt do it solo to appreciate the fight and the music. Idk why chat told him not to do it solo. I told him on stream to do it solo and he said he would, but I guess he wont xD
2 players it is indeed! I play for the first time after almost 10 years video games. My gf I'd into monster hunter since world, her adult kids since psp times (the first time I saw mh). She gave me a switch for Xmas so tgat we could play together. I joined in happily and am addicted full time now. It's what we do after a workday: go on a hunt for apex diablos with changing weapons. Great fun and leisure!
It's weird to me that they always mention the deco grind in World. I never really felt compelled to do that. The way they handled Guard Up/Mighty Bow/Magazine was absolutely criminal, but besides those I always felt like I had the decos to make builds I was happy with. Since Rise is a touch more stingy with the amount of skills you get, you gotta be a bit more deliberate with your builds, so I'm glad they shifted to making them craftable.
Yeah a lot of map have a good scenery ,they felt enormous compare to the new maps even if they're pretty small I loved the small details like " oh you're over the sky"
After hearing about this from a past podcast with BannedLagiacrus, I did some digging on Fatalis: according to the 15th anniversary pamphlet for the Forbidden Monsters expedition, *it is debunked that Fatalis melts hunters. He does not. He lays on the armor and his pure body heat melts it into his hide.* Maybe if Gaijin has one he can confirm this since it would be, of course, written in Japanese and I can't find it anywhere? Also, does anyone else think the chest should have been Fatalis's weak point and not the horns? His horns are hard to break for one, and each black dragon should have their own gimmick. Alatreon had horns and it made sense.
Just as I am listening, so I don't forget. There is another way to get the downy crake. Do the cat trade quest in Iceborne. The damn cat hands you one in exchange for a megapotion. I about fell over. How many hours did I track that thing? Second, perhaps the blast nono on Alatreon in Iceborne was because he got so tore up in 3U by that damn slime kelbi bow? Jay, if you are going to do GU, just remember, like Smash Ultimate, you are also dealing with multiple fetch and gathering quests. Many more than in a single game and the solo path pretty much requires them all. Once you finish them, the game blossoms, but it's gathering fest hell to start. It has been a pleasure to watch you grow into the MH community, sir. Frustrating sometimes, yes, but a pleasure.
My first monster hunter game was 4 ultimate and i knew what i was getting into, after i tryed out the hammer i found my main weapon (also played a lot of chargeblade in 4u and gu and a bit of switch axe in rise but hammer is my one and only true main) it klicked and was hooked, now ive played every game since and now ill go back and play some of the older games starting with 3 ultimate
I love Iceborne rajang. He was a very special monster to me. After beating him for the first time, my eyes opened and the game was never the same again. I go back to fight rajang and furious time and time again, every time it's a high octane, adrenaline fill hunt where I have to worry about positioning and timing, and he just feels like a worthy opponent to me. I don't find his unique mechanics annoying, neither do I hate his lack of openings, its what makes him special. He is fierce and strong and demands your attention the entire fight, and I am sad how the got gutted in rise.
I know nearly everyone hate Rajang in Iceborne but I love fighting him. His theme combine with his non-stop attacks moveset always makes my blood pumped up for the danger. Not to mention that he is so badass that he punch everyone that gets in his way. He doesn't care if the opponents was Rathalos, Deviljho, or even Nergigante. He's always ready to bring the pain train. He's so cool and I love him in Iceborne.
Water combat was phenomenal. People looked it at the wrong way. I think they can knock it out in the sequel to World on PS5. If there's something I miss it's water combat. PS the Handler is Bae. I love her. And it's totally her energy. Once the Guildmarm Costume is equipped. She feels a million times better.
Going back to GU isn't too jarring. My first game was world, and before rise came out I picked up GU cheap to keep me going, sure its different and looks a little dated now, but the gameplay is still solid. Maybe it's easier for me to go back to cos I'm a little older than some players might be, I grew up with n64/ps1 era stuff, so it doesn't feel that old to me, I've seen far worse 😋
It is thanks to Jay, that I am playing IB right now. He gave me the idea. Best decision ever, IB is simply amazing especially after all of the patches and DLCs.
Glad I was addicted to MH from the first hunt. Had just came off a period of time where all I played was Dark Souls 1 & 3 and Bloodborne. I felt like Soulsborne ruined games for me because nothing else scratched that itch for me. Picked up Rise in June on a whim without doing much research. Have 600 hours on it now, another 600 on World, and now I'm sitting here playing GU with about 250 hours so far on it. Gonna try to buy my Vita back from my bro-in-law and try to play the others.
That video's comment section was a most wholesome comment section of a video with >50% dislikes. Really reflects the mature and accepting nature of the MH community!
I recently started playing world about 3 months now and had to take a 2 week break after finally killing barioth with a hammer solo 🤦♂️ took me forever
well the journey of monster hunters 1) seeing the game alien a bit from other fighting games 2) getting attracted a bit by the quality and lore of game 3) Great game
Khezu had an attack where he shot out 3 lightining balls that were connected by a a sting of lighting and it cause Paralysis if it hit. It was unblockable on all weapons I think and even went through Guard Up if I'm not mistaken, but as a Lancer you rarely saw the attack cause he did it when you were farther away from it.
As a solo player im so glad that village is "easier" or not leveled for multiplayer because i have soloed everything in MHW and MH RISE. I never did G rank in MHGU because it was too tough for me to solo comfortably.
Gajinhunter, I don't know if you know. Kagero, the merchant is rumor to be the one that brought Yomogi to Kamura. He is often noted as being a mysterious wyernian that travels from village to village. He also often can be seen looking over at Yomogi when he is at his cart.
This is my favorite episode by far. Love jay and have been waiting for him to come on! Minor technical note though: The audio felt pretty unbalanced. When I turned it up enough to hear Jay ruri was soooo loud. Otherwise great work and I look forward to this podcast every week. Have a good vacay ruri!
The only quest I ever hated was Ivory Lagi, Brach and Azure Rathalos. That's the only one I hated. With a strong side of salt for the HR Alatreon event, but it's a Black Dragon, and I didn't know it back then😑
even tho i personally would have loved for GU to come to the west much earlier than it did, thinking about it now with hindsight, i would say it came out at the most perfect time because it really was the perfect game to fill in the time slot between base World and Iceborne. not to mention, some of the BEST difficulty of any monster hunter game too. pleeeease oh please capcom bring back more difficult fights in RISE!!
rise was my first mh game and when i tried out GU, i fell in love with the franchise. wish i couldve been around for 4u on release. also thx GU community for being alive, not sure if i couldve made most of my sets solo. LOL
Psst... you guys should try Ys series. Start from any order but the even the first one is awesome if you like pixelated retro gaming (once you understand the bumper attack mechanism - tip: attack diagonally) to this day, it strange that it’s such an under rated series, not to mention awesome OST too...

Been waiting for this one for a while. Hoping you guys get HeyJay on again in future podcast. You 3 have great chemistry.
She feels a million times better.
ooh boy! This is gonna be a good one! 3.5 hours of Gold standart entertainment and MH talk. SIGN ME UP! 😎🖐 Thanks for this guys!
28:00 like dragonating fatalis in world, that makes my gunlance burst every time
I am just 25 min in and i am already dying with laughter.
Je ben nie de enige 🤣
wasn't expecting to hear this much about xenoblade here. best franchise imo
Hopefully we get angbata next time as guest panel. Curios to see his story and culture over at his place.
Dayyym, gaijin be rollin' dem doobies, playing MAGIC, while listening to rock with a group of friends. Sounds like da dream. :')
Gaijin is my hero back in mhfu! What a fun podcast session this is!
Ah so you have played the best game of PS1 era Overblood 1 right?
It is thanks to Jay, that I am playing IB right now. He gave me the idea. Best decision ever, IB is simply amazing especially after all of the patches and DLCs.
Now we need a podcast with all of them together: Hey Jay, Arekks, Gaijin, Rurikhan
Rurikhan the movie you thought of simillar to “naked gun“ with charlie sheen was “ Hot Shots “ ^^
My first turn based was also FF8 and I play turn based the most now!!! As in the JRPG genre is my most favourite....and MH :)
Personally I like World so much more, because it felt like a hunt. Rise feels like an arcade game.
I actually love the rock phase of shara. It's what I nickname the "WALL!" phase as my friend and I tell wall when we slam monsters.
I have been waiting for hey jay to get to this point for so long Im happy
It happened. The day is here. I'm so ready for this episode! 👍
That video's comment section was a most wholesome comment section of a video with >50% dislikes. Really reflects the mature and accepting nature of the MH community!
Hey there @Rurikhan nice channel. Thx for Tipps und tuts. Ever imagined making live chat while podcast ING? Just a question/idea. Best g
I recently started playing world about 3 months now and had to take a 2 week break after finally killing barioth with a hammer solo 🤦♂️ took me forever
well the journey of monster hunters
1) seeing the game alien a bit from other fighting games
2) getting attracted a bit by the quality and lore of game
3) Great game
Khezu had an attack where he shot out 3 lightining balls that were connected by a a sting of lighting and it cause Paralysis if it hit.
It was unblockable on all weapons I think and even went through Guard Up if I'm not mistaken, but as a Lancer you rarely saw the attack cause he did it when you were farther away from it.
Gaijin doing the Hot ones intro hahaha im surprised people didnt notice
i know right?! People are so uncultured lol
@@gaijinhunter exactly!! We are both cool 😎
As a solo player im so glad that village is "easier" or not leveled for multiplayer because i have soloed everything in MHW and MH RISE. I never did G rank in MHGU because it was too tough for me to solo comfortably.
Tune in for another Black Dragon playing with Jay's burned corpse in the next episode of MHW/I Journal
Gajinhunter, I don't know if you know. Kagero, the merchant is rumor to be the one that brought Yomogi to Kamura. He is often noted as being a mysterious wyernian that travels from village to village. He also often can be seen looking over at Yomogi when he is at his cart.
Welcome to the guild, brave hunter
The other game with last story and Xenoblade is Pandora's Tower, it was really good.
Man I love this community and this podcast.
ITS FINALLY HAPPENING! good thing i was planning on egg farming today before making more progress in the story!
HOT SHOTS! is the name of the Top Gun Parody.
I want to see ruris reaction to legends of the guild so bad
HeyJay is swag axe gang! Hell yeah!
Jay can buy Final Fantasy VII Remakw for Gaijin and Gaijin can buy Generations Ultimate for Jay. Perfect!
Yooooo! They brought Hey Jay! I was hoping they brought him after Fatalis but this should be fun too
2:29:16 One sidekick I will never forget, my Poncle buddy Issun from Okami. That game is an absolute gem and has aged very well
The only quest I ever hated was Ivory Lagi, Brach and Azure Rathalos. That's the only one I hated. With a strong side of salt for the HR Alatreon event, but it's a Black Dragon, and I didn't know it back then😑
The unison of “What!?” at 2:37:21 killed me.
even tho i personally would have loved for GU to come to the west much earlier than it did, thinking about it now with hindsight, i would say it came out at the most perfect time because it really was the perfect game to fill in the time slot between base World and Iceborne. not to mention, some of the BEST difficulty of any monster hunter game too. pleeeease oh please capcom bring back more difficult fights in RISE!!
rise was my first mh game and when i tried out GU, i fell in love with the franchise. wish i couldve been around for 4u on release. also thx GU community for being alive, not sure if i couldve made most of my sets solo. LOL
Psst... you guys should try Ys series. Start from any order but the even the first one is awesome if you like pixelated retro gaming (once you understand the bumper attack mechanism - tip: attack diagonally) to this day, it strange that it’s such an under rated series, not to mention awesome OST too...
alatreon took me 4 hours but i have like a decade of monster hunting under my belt
