Leto would of definitely went native, since he didnt really have a choice. The question is if he would return to Caladan after house Harkonnen had been dealt with after the fremen attacks. The man definitely had blind spots when it came to those who he saw as loyal.
It would ruin a perfectly good story. Also, "emphatic" isn't entirely true for Leto. In the book it clearly states that there were 2 sides to Leto's personality. The dark harsh one, trained by the father, and the warm side of his, partly due to his concubine Jessica. Tens of thousands of years into the future, their mistake of "love" still held it's sway across the known universe. If only she had listened to her sisters, if he had married her like he wanted to. It created Muad'Dib, and Leto II. Even after the scattering, the Bene Gesserit were still afraid of the power of Love and made sure to keep it in check.
