I thought I'd try a brand new format to capture the entire campaign at the Empire's lowest point in the release cycle. Hope you enjoy - apologies for the varying volume, I have a little one now so I had to chip away at this over a few sessions. Let me know what you think and good luck in your campaigns!
I love how you mention specific triggers like taking the North. This campaign is one of thw best to learn a lot about diplomacy and how taking specific places may trigger enemies against you (like North - triggers Norsca or Belakor or both)
I watched your 'unit types' video and found it really helpful. I don't play total war currently, but I play other strategy games and having a way to categorise units is very much needed. I play League of Legends, and that game has 150 champions or units to play, a bunch of different 'classes' and a whole lot of noise from the community which isn't very helpful. Your video helped me figure out how to 'see' the game.

36:20 I swear they've changed the aggressiveness of surrounding factions with the new dlc. I used to take out Khazrak, then tunnel into marienburg and walk into Bretonnia seling all bretinnian land to Louen making fat cash and a powerful ally. Heinrich hardly ever did anything. Grom only got aggro when you walked into bretonnia. Now by turn ten, Grom's on your border and Heinrich takes Marienburg fairly consistently, its ridiculous. Festus and Vlad were always a major problem, with Khazrak being an early enemy that wasnt to hard to deal with on easier difficulties at least, but now you get totally surrounded and choked out before turn 10. It's a much harder start now.
Mate, you have LITERALLY detailed my old walkthrough to the letter. Taking out Kemlar to empower Brettonia while taking Marrienburg early was a safe start. Pre-changeling you had more than enough time to prepare for Skrag and Grom but now you really feel stretched. I gotta say I did love this campaign but it forced some very tough choices. No argument, this is the hardest the powerboys have ever had it!
@@kaopointmanneil5862 @kaopointmanneil5862 I think not wiping Kelmar is a mistake and he could become a divisive issue for Brettonian relations with Elves and Empire. It's rough, but I'd stay the course and remember that destroying his armies means Leon will get his opportunity to cripple Kemlar and then support the Elves to envelop Grom. This isn't so much a challenge in that you have pressure to wipe out Festus and Khaz with no guarantee Skrag won't come from the South.... we haven't even spoken about Vlad yet. The Empire is surrounded by 4 (or even 5) iscolated conflicts who's victor is almost a binary 'good' or 'bad' for your own campaign. The secret of why this is all so hard is all the enemies tend to have strong early units while the empire depends on structured/equiped armies to win - thus they can't accomplish with T1-2 stacks what many armies can easily cover.

I’m nowhere near as good as EPA, I’m getting rocked at Normal/Normal difficulty but I really liked this campaign so I’m trying to adjust now. This guide is obviously amazing, but if I want to try my own strategy I’m not sure what I should do to change. IMO Kemmler was never a necessary kill before, even though I did every time to support Louen. As I said, previously Kemmler never made it through the mountains, sometimes died without player input but now he dives into Marienburg by turn 9/10. And at that point Khazrak is pushing you if you ignore him, so I try to field 2 armies, but at turn 9/10 that’s to expensive or it’s total chaff. I think I need to get better at cheesing the game.
Watched your empire unit tier list video, loved it. In this video I noticed you relied on archers quite a bit. I’m struggling with holding the line in my empire battles. Should I use less gunpowder/ more archers?
Having the extra archers provides some extra flexibility for sieges, but you're right, holding the line is the most challenging element. Using characters to slow the enemy can be key and using fast units like cav to stop their archers firing can't be undervalued. I've pushed for the empire to get more auras and buffs but don't overlook the ones they have. Priests are excellent, have them hotkeyed and drop their buffs. Also, Lords have their +12MD ability to drop when the time is right. Gunpowder can also be a help, but too much can deny LoS. Check out my Empire formations video. I did some considerable testing on those to find good allcomers lists. Cheers mate.

I was wondering why you didn't choose the Inspiring Presence skill with your lords early on? Especially on the lords that train and move troops. The extra experience over time give your basic units good stat buffs, which they need much more than a small buff to lord or hero stats I think. It's why Route Marcher is always my first pick for any army and Inspiring Presence the second. I was wondering what your thoughts are about what skills to choose and when?
Hi! I have a question. Do you plan some content/guides for offensive/rush armies, which does not have lots of firing units! Universal Formation is amazing, but it emphasizes role of firing units. I try to adapt to ogre kingdoms, and it fesulted for creating wide frontline
I was just doing this campaign on VH, was going well, confederated Gelt, and then the Bloody Handz came out of nowhere with two waghs to take me out. Plus Skrag, followed by Vlad, managed to finish off Heinrich, then Wulfric declares war. Its turn 50 and I’m treading water, just beat Vlad after he brought 5 stacks in Reikland 😂 then Skragg and the orcs bring another 6 between the two of them, holy shit, when does it end?! lol
I've played many campaigns and seriously, this one just doesn't let up.... but that's kind of the beauty of it. An Emperor's duty is never done! Let's see if the upcoming DLC changes things for them!
Shouldn't you never "Allow expansion"? As forcing the returning of a settlement grants +1 Imperial Authority? So is actually better and more reliable that the -1k prestige mission.
Sorry, could you please clarify? You essentially want every event that provides +1 Authority except to reinstate a count (the exception being if they have a LL you want to confederate). They don't provide meaningful military resistance and will just send you back 1 Imperial Authority when they're wiped again... I feel I missed the point of this question? Haha
@@ElvenPlotArmour It is the event when one Elector Count gains control of a province of another Elector Count. You have the option to "Demand Return" or "Allow Expansion" The options say you will gain or lose 1 Fealty respectively. However though not shown the Demand Return option also gives +1 Authority. Since this event can only occur if the Original Elector Owner is still alive - it is always best to select this option regardless of the Fealty level involved. As you cant use this event to reinstate a destroyed elector and so avoid the Authority loss you mentioned in the above. I mentioned this as I saw a couple of times in your video you Allowed the expansion just to gain Fealty - missing +1 Authority

I had more success as Gelt doing the enemy kill order because ai Gelt is worthless. Ai Franz actually does something on the map and takes off some pressure. The Golden Order was an enjoyable campaign once festus was dead. I just rushed to the brass keep and cut out off his main base. Then I had to get some good ambushes in but it was easy after that.
At turn 13 Kemmler already destroyed Marienburg with 2 extra settlements on the other side of the river too, Clan moulder and fckn kislev attacked me from the east, while Ikit Claw came all the way up avoiding like 5 AI factions just to hit me with 2 full stacks. The beastmen are dead but the greenskins attacked too. Clan moulder and kislev are literally racing who’s gonna get to Altdorf first, holding each others’ hands. Can’t wait for Vlad, Festus and the changeling to join the gang in a few turns
Omg that sounds Hectic! Kislev declaring war? .... Did Karl have too many drinks at the peace conference and get too forward? I've never seen her go hostile, let alone ally with the rats!
It's honestly quite rough and this seems to be his set path. This point in the campaign is the most challenging part and it can go either way. Karl struggles with cash from supply lines early on, so gifting Marrienburg is a stretch (to help them build more armies), the most important thing to do is keep an eye on him and "pounce" him before he risks entering Reikland, The mastery of this campaign is looking around seeing the various powers and judging how your friendly factions can hold them off long enough while you cut off the heads of each threat.... It's a pain but man I love this campaign for it!
They haven't formally announced a rework, but I simply don't see how they won't (and I"m usually quite measured in my expectations). CA's latest post showcased their intent to provide more content with upcoming releases, plus the Empire are the posterboys. Giving the Empire a huge buff in player experience is a huge way to garner some good will back.
Excellent video and timely! With the Empire "rework" pushed back to at least April 2024, this could not have come at a better time - keep up the good work, mate! I don't usually autoresolve in campaigns... but with One-Eye I feel it justified, as if you don't kill the army outright the buggers retreat and hide and turn the North into a corrupted chaos wasteland and they become near impossible to eliminate adding several turns to secure that area..
This campaign has really felt the heat since the changeling dropped, being one extra element that stunts the eastern provinces. Glad you enjoyed the video and and in a way it's nice to see it get some longevity, albeit at the expense of new content taking longer. I'm hopeful the result is quality!
It's produced in Ableton Live with strong inspiration and some chops from other game themes. It uses Nexus, a common strings synth so it can sound familiar by virtue of that. The later part is just a medieval guitar part I wrote to act as background music for a more calm strategic vibe.
The only issue i have with this is the fort battle. in your example they leave the walls open for you to take. Every time i try they garrison the walls fully.
You have some options - always check his balance of power. You can ambush him as he comes towards (Eilhart I think it is?). Once you beat his main army you can easily best anything he throws your way. If he takes Marrienburg it's not terrible for you - just ensure he doesn't hit Reikland - anything else is a fine sacrifice.
I had a kid earlier this year but I used to do 8-12hr streams prior to this. Would love to do more, I thought I'd try this out as a middleground format

Hiya. I started a campaign as Emperor Franz, I've beaten the Empire secessionists, but MIddenland fell to Beastmen. They've got a 13 unit garrison with a 20 unit stack in Middenland, I don't know if I should buy another army so that I can match the beastmen numbers, because if I do that I won't have the cash to upgrade Reikland. Its turn 9.
Your whole game menus look different from mine. From selecting the campaign and from choosing new upgrades, the whole ui has a different skin and layout. Also shows options I don't have. Edit: So i wikied the state issued weapons and it says its in the total war warhammer 2 game not the first one. And your game is listed as total war warhammer 1 so you are playing part two or the third game, this is very miss leading. Please fix this so it doesn't confuse other people new to the franchise.
Hey mate, absolutely didn't mean to mislaed, you're right - I forgot to put the game as WH3 which I normally do. I'll make the change now, honestly the first time it's happened. Appreciate the heads up so I can fix it. I recommend my Empire Formations guide which is applicable to all the WH titles and one of the best resources around if you're new to the WH battles. I do not know how you do this. My 4th attempt at Hard / Hard. by turn 20 i have Heinrich on me (marienburg gone) Vamps coming onto me with Stirland and Averland gone. Either Weissberg gone because of Elfs or Green skins (cant remember red hand?)...impossiable
Man, you had the Bloody Hands coming up from the south as well? Honestly, this is hard mate. I've long said the Empire was tough, but not weak, until the SoC DLC. I saw where the changling started and immediately though "This is going to reeeally hurt Empire". This is the darkest point for the posterboys, mark my words. I really tried to reiterate how this was much more difficult than this video made seem. Heinrich taking Marrienburg seems to be almost standard now from what I hear which is really rough. Even for a high level player, lady luck and amazing foresight need to be on your side. Good luck general!
@@ElvenPlotArmour so went to S*&t. New game started and oh man, this one is the one. T38 Hochy is still alive, Todd is still kicking and have had Kemmler attack every other turn including i took back Marienburg. Just Killed 1 eye with Karl in ambush mode (suck on it) and now pushing for their only city left which is Aarnau. Peaced out with Kemmler so i can sort 1 Eye and the Black Pit tribe (only have the black pit). Paunch is now a threat but has 2 wars already so should be cool. I need to start moving to kill Festus. Great campaign this time around real fun with your tactics helping, thanks mate. BTW im from Brisbane but live in London :) love your stuff and used your Chaos Dwarf stuff.

Perhaps a rethink if the early push dynamics.....like pushing kemler to support bretonia then pulling back to defend from the north?......

Not a huge fan of the swordmen but I guess that was pre skillset resetting interesting idea.
These buffs extend to shielded spears and other useful infantry. Empire don't have problems dealing damage... it's preventing it that's hard! haha

Yes! And right you were. He'd expand previously but taking this capital so early is a huge spike in power.

The Empire will certainly get a new coat of paint . A statement came out today saying their increasing the content of the expansions.

Hiya. I started a campaign as Emperor Franz, I've beaten the Empire secessionists, but MIddenland fell to Beastmen. They've got a 13 unit garrison with a 20 unit stack in Middenland, I don't know if I should buy another army so that I can match the beastmen numbers, because if I do that I won't have the cash to upgrade Reikland. Its turn 9.
Your whole game menus look different from mine. From selecting the campaign and from choosing new upgrades, the whole ui has a different skin and layout. Also shows options I don't have.
Edit: So i wikied the state issued weapons and it says its in the total war warhammer 2 game not the first one. And your game is listed as total war warhammer 1 so you are playing part two or the third game, this is very miss leading. Please fix this so it doesn't confuse other people new to the franchise.
Hey mate, absolutely didn't mean to mislaed, you're right - I forgot to put the game as WH3 which I normally do. I'll make the change now, honestly the first time it's happened. Appreciate the heads up so I can fix it. I recommend my Empire Formations guide which is applicable to all the WH titles and one of the best resources around if you're new to the WH battles. I do not know how you do this. My 4th attempt at Hard / Hard. by turn 20 i have Heinrich on me (marienburg gone) Vamps coming onto me with Stirland and Averland gone. Either Weissberg gone because of Elfs or Green skins (cant remember red hand?)...impossiable
Man, you had the Bloody Hands coming up from the south as well? Honestly, this is hard mate. I've long said the Empire was tough, but not weak, until the SoC DLC. I saw where the changling started and immediately though "This is going to reeeally hurt Empire". This is the darkest point for the posterboys, mark my words. I really tried to reiterate how this was much more difficult than this video made seem. Heinrich taking Marrienburg seems to be almost standard now from what I hear which is really rough. Even for a high level player, lady luck and amazing foresight need to be on your side. Good luck general!
@@ElvenPlotArmour so went to S*&t. New game started and oh man, this one is the one. T38 Hochy is still alive, Todd is still kicking and have had Kemmler attack every other turn including i took back Marienburg. Just Killed 1 eye with Karl in ambush mode (suck on it) and now pushing for their only city left which is Aarnau. Peaced out with Kemmler so i can sort 1 Eye and the Black Pit tribe (only have the black pit). Paunch is now a threat but has 2 wars already so should be cool. I need to start moving to kill Festus. Great campaign this time around real fun with your tactics helping, thanks mate. BTW im from Brisbane but live in London :) love your stuff and used your Chaos Dwarf stuff.
