  • ENCEPHALITIS IN RABBIT (causes, symptoms, remedies)
In this video we will talk in a simple way about this disease and what to do if the rabbit gets sick. We are not vets, but we have direct experience with hundreds of rabbits.
Encephalitozoonosis (or tilted head) is a rather common disease in domestic rabbits, although a good number of positive subjects remain asymptomatic.
It is caused by a parasite called Encephalitozoon Cuniculi, an obligate intracellular protozoa (an organism that lives inside the cells of the host it infests).
The main organs affected are the kidneys and the brain, but other organs such as the liver and heart can also be affected.
Neurological injuries can also cause partial or total paralysis of the rabbit's hind legs.
It is important to be prompt in diagnosis and treatment if the rabbit is suspected of having encephalitis.
