Meiling’s friends were awesome
I feel that the way their presence helped Mei keep the panda under control is a good metaphor for having the people and things you love around you help deal with anxiety and stress
Not just people who love you. People who accept you for who you are. Most people in Mei's life love her, but Mei's friends accept her for who she is in all aspects. It's a really powerful thing to see on screen. There are way too many crummy friends in animated movies. Bring on the loyal, supportive friends! It's a breath of fresh air!

What's really scary is the fact that Ming's mother practically made her into a carbon copy of herself
I was mostly scared because Ming's panda form is the size of a Kaiju compared to the rest of her family

Ming's panda isn't normally that big, at best it's bigger than the biggest panda among her siblings.
Every panda side is related to the emotions of the one that has this blessing, so in a way, Ming's anger is literally the anger of a kaiju.
And yes, I just did an "um" moment.

Mei had some true friends, they loved her for who she was red panda form or no red panda form. they never abandoned her once and stuck by her when she needed it the most if that's not true friendship i don't know what is.

Ming bad mouthing Miriam was actually a pretty relatable reference to control it parents. While Ming is not nearly as bad as most controlling parents, the reason why she doesn’t like Miriam is because Miriam thinks she is fine the way she is while Ming feels the need to make constant adjustments. I actually had a boyfriend who’s mother told him that she didn’t know why he was with me, because I never try to and I quote “make him better”
I am not a psychologist, but it’s like the controlling parent will disapprove of there most excepting friends because it highlights and causes them to actually look at their contrasting behavior and treatment of their child and makes them doubt themselves usually causing the parent to project and paint them as a bad influence. Even when it couldn’t be further from the truth

There is a big misunderstanding towards Meimei's aunt. It is not a criticism when she said Mei had gain weight and looks like her father. It is just a common small talk topic in chinese culture, just like saying someone had lose weight or looks like their mother/grandmather/etc.

THANK YOU!! I absolutely love the scene at the end with Mei and her ancestress Sun Yee, but people either don't mention it, or find it "terrifying"? It's sweet and beautiful,- what movie were they even watching?

Of ALL the characters I know, Abby is the one that most resembles me, in appearance and personality. Like her, I'm outgoing, chubby, short and a little aggressive, and I always take great care of my friends. I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING ABBY DOES, BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT I WOULD DO
While I think that the list is mostly accurate (except for the dad being so low) I don’t think Tyler is the least good character in the film
He was only a kid who wanted to not be alone because he wanted to be cool while the mother embarrassed her daughter in front of everyone, was a control freak, and destroyed an entire stadium because she didn’t like how Mei was acting “crass”
Yeah. I thought Tyler is pretty much of a jerk at first until he turned out to be a 4-Towns fan.
At the end of the day, we all have human quirks. Nobody is perfect as humans.

Also Tyler definitely should be quite a bit higher on the list due to one helping to save the day even after he was attacked by Mei who might I remind you was still a lot bigger than him and the mother being Godzilla sized and furious at the time that Tyler helped save the day means he truly changed unlike many of the other characters who deserve to be very low such as all of the female ancestors and the mother
I would rank Mei's Mom lower than Tyler (sorry) because her red panda form was endangering thousands of people, all because she wants to fight Mei.

Mei's Mother can barely control herself as her panda form, the necklace broke she didn't mean to
"Ming is an incredibly Chinese mom." There, I summarized her for you. As for the panda, I think in Ming's experience, the panda generally first emerges AFTER a girl in that family gets her first period, which is why a) that was the first thing Ming's mind went to, and b) she was so alarmed by it, because she knew it was only a matter of time before the panda first appeared, and she was running out of time to prepare Mei. But when she learned it was the other way around, and Mei's panda emerged before her first period, it really caught Ming off guard. She also didn't think it was possible to master the panda, because she herself could never master hers. So she naturally didn't believe Mei could achieve more than temporary control over the panda. Which is why I love the fact that Ming's panda was sealed in Mei's Tamagotchi. Because it's now a literal pet, Ming has the opportunity to get to know it and make peace with it. So if she ever has to release it again, she will likely have much better control over it.
Jin is the Iroh in Mei's life. Albeit a lot shyer. But it should be noted that he and Ming were childhood sweethearts, having been together since they were 13. That's adorable.
I do love how genuine the celebrity teens of 4 Town are. They deserve the admiration they get from Mei and her friends.

In a movie about a girl turning into a red panda every time she gets over emotional, the part that baffles me the most is that the creators and developers were also the master minds behind The Incredibles, Inside Out and Coco.

This movie imo, is one of Pixar's best. For a while I thought Turning Red was going to be a pretty cringe movie and while it had those moments, most of the rest was really well executed. And for a coming of age film, this ticked all the right boxes for it and really showed that Pixar can be better than Disney with it's movies

Mei's friends are more loyal and trusting then Penny Prouds friends. Also, I see Mei's mom as a villain with redeeming qualities. Let's be real here, through most of the film, her mom was very antagonizing.

What i really adore about this movie is that mei and her friends doesnt follow the typical trope of outcasts wanna be popular, they instead portrayed as a group of friends that rather comfortable hang out with each others more and only take the advantage of becoming popular just to raise their moneys to buy a tickets so mei and her friends could go to a concert together.
