    i've noticed pixar movies are going into a new age of stories that are extremely personal to the people making the films. they may get more likely to be unrelateable to most but will still tell amazing stories which some can extremely relate to. i actually like the new age of pixar with the experimentation of art style and willingness to delve into topics that some people think younger kids shouldn't talk about (LGBTQ+ in Luca and female puberty in Turning Red).

      Oh, that’s so funny, I didn’t know about that anime but that makes sense because earlier today when I was watching the documentary about the process of making the movie I saw that My neighbor Toronto was an alternate title for the movie and I didn’t get it at all because they live in Toronto but Turning Red is such a better title but now it kinda makes sense and totally confirms your theory that they were inspired by that!

      @@FlicksAndTheCity also the number 4 is bad luck because it has the same pronunciation as death. So 444 is literally someone repeating death death death.

    • @Cinderspark9
      @Cinderspark9 2 года назад +2

      @@beeeean The numbers 4 and 9 are both super unlucky in Japan. Four is pronounced "shi," which is the same pronunciation as death. Nine is pronounced "ku," which has the same pronunciation as agony or torture. This is actually the fault of Japanese stealing some of China's numbering systems, since Japan's 4 is "yon", not 'shi', and will be pronounced yon in certain circumstances.
      There's also liscence plates that have to be specifically requested (will not occur randomly) and are heavily discouraged. For example, 42 and 49 at the end of plates, which are linked to the words for "death (shini 死に)" and "to run over (shiku 轢く)". The full sequences 42-19, (proceeding to death 死に行く) and 42-56 (time to die 死に頃) are also restricted.

    Got one. During Mei’s run towards the SkyDome, some camera angles during the run on the buildings are reminiscent of Tobey Maguire’s building run in the original Spider-Man movie, which, coincidentally, was released in the same year Turning Red takes place!

    The Chalk circle and the candles are giving me serious "The Skeleton Key" vibes
    The skeleton key is a horror movie it's about a girl who takes care of people and one day comes to a house with "dark secrets..."
    EDIT: I didn’t comment this! Is someone on my acc-?..

    I think it’s pretty obvious that Priya and the Emo girl from Tyler’s party are a couple and that Priya is Bi
    Also the band name is based off of the Toronto Canada based boy band O town and the music and outfits are based off of *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys in my opinion
    Also I always watch till the end of every movie

    The Toronto syline is a nod to the Sailor Moon anime backgrounds.

    10:38 i think the blue jay has more of a reference from the short "dug days" on disney plus, this is because in one of the episodes carl fredrickson or Mr. fredrickson made a bird feeder and a blue jay was trying to eat some of the bird seeds but scared away by a squirrel and the squirrel eats the bird seeds instead

    This one is revolving around Abby:
    Since Abby is a Korean-Canadian, the line where she gets mad for the concert being in Toledo is a reference to a line in Korean Novelas when characters get mad.

    In the intro of the movie, there is a shot where a teacher is in their office describing Mei at their desk, and on a bookshelf, you can see a white polar bear wearing a blue jersey with a maple leaf in the center, a clear reference to Carleton the bear, the mascot of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League. There is also weirdly for a Canadian set movie, a poster for the 1980 Olympics, known as “the miracle on ice” (there is also a movie about it) where the USA beat the Soviet Union in the gold medal game. As a hockey fan I found these very interesting references to see in a pixar movie

    The 4 Town boy band is also probably a reference to Canadian boy band B4-4 which had three members (get it before four?). They were even nominated for Best New Group at the 2001 Junos so the timeline is spot on too.
