Chuck, I have to be honest- it was very disheartening to see this video- I thought you were a nice, knowledgeable guy- and whats funny is, my family and I have watched alot of your videos in the last several months learning how to make a better skoolie.
i think your video makes it seem like we are "rich kids" deliberately trying to mislead people but thats not true, We genuinely did our best on this build
you have knowledge about skoolies, you should be a guiding voice, not a mean critic
again, very very disappointed by this video

I highly doubt you watched his videos.. I've been working on a bus for awhile and I'm just starting to come across his videos. There's a difference between being a rich kid and being a privileged kid.
Seems like you can't take criticism and you are trying to twist this situation to make Chuck look like a bad guy for giving his honest opinion.

    • @sshardy
      @sshardy 8 месяцев назад +24

I'm not sure I'd say Chuck was mean. Just a vanilla critique. I've watched maybe 6 of Chuck's videos in the last day (just found him) and not really knowing anything about DIY RV's, much of what you did was cringeworthy... If you had really done several months of research, you would have done soooo much different. I have to believe that...

I am looking forward to this video! I watched the original president chay video and it reminds me of a movie set. On the side with cameras it appears to be whatever they want it to be, but on the backside of the wall it's cardboard taped over toothpicks stuck together with bubblegum. A bus WAS converted, but they built without taking into account that it WAS a bus they were building in. Now time to watch a master pick it apart.

I always enjoy your content and learn a great deal. I think for this video though you should have been drinking a lot more! haha. What would be funny now is for him to critique one of your videos except he would focus on you needing to get to the gym! haha. Anyhow, thank you for all you share! (I need to get to the gym too!)

Chuck. Have you ever considered putting slide outs on your bus? Like a travel trailer and 5th wheels have.

In the UK we wouldn't even call that blue bus a bodge...it's a bag of sh*te in every way. How do these people manage to get dressed in the morning?..

Sorry I missed the premier of this one last night. Hadn't looked at buses for a hot minute and went out to old Marketplace to have a look. So many just appallingly bad conversions or half conversions that you wouldn't even want to try to rip out and start from scratch. Just makes me ask "what did that poor bus do to you?" There's just no excuse when there has been GOOD content out there to guide folks into making the best, safest decisions on bus conversions. Sad and a waste of a good bus.

I watched that video. They are 2 brothers who are doing their first build.
They had some show they had to get to.
I respect their ambition but even I know that they’re doing things wrong.
I’m a retired Psychologist and have no mechanical skills, but I know that if I’m doing something new, I research and get professional help and advice when doing something new.

I have a legitimate question, i'm spray foaming the interior and I was curious if filling the square tube in the ceiling with foam would help prevent moisture from dripping at each brace, I'm curious if anyone has tried that and what are the results?
I'm trying to save some head room.

Plywood. Or literally anything else that isn’t made of paper and rock dust

I feel bad because its not that he isn't skilled, he just has a different set of skills from what is needed for busbuilding and is kind of forcing the round peg into the square hole, not bothered whether the peg will still roll on the other side. We have the internet.

Chuck, Don't be dissing Ryobi tools. I have a ton of construction experience (with a General Contractor's license) and have been using Ryobi tools long before they were florescent green (they were originally blue) and have had only one tool fail. That was a blue circular saw that I burnt up because of an extremely dull blade. The only weak link that they later solved was their original blue batteries didn't last long. I have never had one of their 2nd gen batteries fail. I love Milwaukee cordless tools but they are way overpriced for home projects. For the DIYer, I highly recommend Ryobi cordless tools. Now back to the video of the influencer pressure washing his fiberglass insulation and sealing off his leaky bus windows while building an exposed waste tank platform out of wood.

That kind of work is why I decided to not do a conversion. I've been seeing tons of complaints about insurance issues, camp grounds not allowing conversions, and when people have had their fun and are getting out, the value on the resale market for conversions is taking a beating because of so many poorly done conversions. Plus I'm getting old and conversion work isn't my thing anymore. I do enjoy your honesty in your videos, as well as your videos in general. Wish I could un-view ex-President Chay!

It looks like those overpriced apartments that are all “Newly remodeled and updated!” and it’s just ugly grey and white everything with faux marble and brick everywhere. 😂
This makes me feel better about my future build for sure, lmao. Even before I knew anything at all about this sort of thing, I would have cringed at this so hard.

I watched five minutes of the person that you are reviewing here
President Chay and I thought his bus was shit
I would rather like to see what your bus looks like inside and outside
    Once it’s finished
    Finished the right way
    As I know you do
Kind regards to you and your experience in bus conversion

A final note to Chay and to Chuck: Below is a link to another newbie trying to convert a bus. In this one, he is showing how he braces the sides after making the cut to separate the roof. I’m no expert so can’t say if what he did was right or wrong. All I know is it made me cringe. The difference between him and you, Chay, is that he doesn’t try to pretend his way around his mistakes. Rather, he explains to his viewers that he wants them to see what he did wrong so they don’t make the same mistakes. Then he proceeds to do his best to correct the problems. It was difficult for me to tell whether he did make improvements or not, but he is clearly a good-hearted man who is trying his very best. Remember: The worst thing an honest man can do is make an honest mistake. BTW, I think Chuck let you off lightly. Here’s the other builder’s link to raising the roof on his bus (It scared the hell out of me to watch it.) m.ruclips.net/video/SmdJHNZoWNU/видео.html
