I was born in 2000 and I remember being able to socialize and play without a lot of supervision as child but then I got my first iPhone at 12 and it is crazy to look back at certain memories from that time from my icloud. I don't blame my mother or the adults around me at that time because no one really knew what it would be like when it came to social media and other sources of entertainment and it's future effects. But now that we do, we must advocate for these younger kids because I can can confirm that though social media was "fun" it was in fact harmful to my mental health and how I saw the world around me. The smartphones seemed so innocent from like 2010-2014 but the minute those targeted ads were seen as the perfect tool to manipulate, it was a wrap lol. I think Madonna had mentioned something in an interview a few years ago about the damage social media causes to society as a whole. She had said that it stopped us as a people from developing a level of consciousness or something like that but I understood what she was trying to get at. It makes people feel more connected but by the data they're showing in this clip, I don't think so.
I’m sorry Joy! I know you are a Biden lover, but that dude was wandering around! Someone needed to tap his back and guide him. A younger person or just someone like Joy would not need that. I feel bad for him and he needs to be vacationing like my dad in his 60s
Body image issues started way before social media!!! I would argue that there is some social aspects that kids get now days that we used to spend on the phone but parents also need to set rules.. i just think it’s multifaceted like most things
I think parents need to be parents again. As a parent if you are constantly on your phone, why would you expect your children to act differently? I wholeheartedly agree with Whoopi on this, parents are not taking phones away when they should. It’s almost like they are afraid to discipline their kids. I’m just thankful that my child is grown now.
Warnings are all well and good, but when they try to FORCE the issue--ridiculously high taxes on cigarettes and seatbelt laws, for example--they can F**K RIGHT OFF. Give us the information, and LET US USE IT AS WE SEE FIT. That would truly be responsible freedom, as opposed to the nanny state in which we currently live.
Except that he often DOES wander off and he IS senile. Saying that people are not seeing what they are actually seeing is disrespectful to the voters and can backfire on the Election Day.
Let's not overlook the pandemic of narcissism that social media has fostered and normalized in today's society. Why do you need 2,700 selfies in the same room, talking about "I'm the main character?" Go sit down a read a book.
Social media use is prevalent among young people, with up to 95 percent of those aged 13 to 17 saying that they use a social media platform, and more than a third saying that they use social media “almost constantly,” according to 2022 data from the Pew Research Center.
Treating a symptom is not treating the problem. The issue isn’t social media the issue is not raising your children to be critical thinkers and reason out situations. Remove social media and something else will fill the void to affect their mental health. Fix the root cause.
This is a MUST! Maybe we can give parents an incentive by winning a bonus for every proven week of fasting from social media??? The REASON it's so important is not only depression, but PHYSICAL unfitness...in my case, I am in the music biz...doing productions...I even have to force myself to get away from the screen...get up and excercize. I didn't before and was inside too long...didn't get enough vitamin D and end up with weak bones....PEOPLE BETTA WAKE UP!!! MB have them watch WALI

Not like is now with social media cause I'm a kid of the 80's and 90's and our parents actually took TV away as a punishment and there were plenty of shows that came on after 5 pm that would put up a parental guidance warning up for certain programming and TV is a one way relationship that we had were these kids can talk to whom ever they want and see whatever they want 24/7
It started in the late 90s, but only the rich could afford it! Now everyone has it and I kinda wish it would go back to where only the rich could have access 😂😂😂
My son and daughter-in-law allow 30 minutes a day for their children. Otherwise, they engage them in outdoor activities such as sports, playground meetings, and playdates. Great parents!!!!
I said it before when mine were younger, (I am not your friend, I am your mother first). As adults we know what type of conversation will be allowed. I am big on respect. You don’t say and anything disrespectful to me and I to you. I don’t play those games. My name is on my children’s birth certificates their name is not on mine.
You couldnt call your family? Since when? I stayed in contact and even visited friends during the pandemic. Just safely for myself due to health issues.
You need to be better with cyber security. Interesting I live in Singapore for 5 years the security was incredible.... people can undermine Singapore for so many reasons but they are so far ahead on this issue ...I am living in NZ now and the difference is unbelievable it's bad here the amount of people being scammed and school bullying isn't good at all.
I get what they’re saying and totally agree but I don’t think anything is really going to change. This is a country that was whining about having to wear masks. They’re not going to want to be told what to do with their phones or social media.
I remember as a child, all my friends had sky(cable tv) computers with internet and phones specifically the Nokia 3310 😂 I didn’t have them, our family simply could not afford them, I felt bad, out of the loop from my friends, had a few comments or shock that I didn’t have premium tv 😂 but I didn’t push and beg and moan to my mum as I knew it wasn’t a priority and I would be fine without them. When Christmas came along or my birthday I did get a big present like a phone and it felt amazing, my mum looked proud I felt happy and knew that she hadn’t gotten a credit card to pay or wasn’t being purely mean by not buying me until that occasion. Parents do have a choice and a responsibility and having that relationship with your child is valuable for their future especially lessons in money and expectations and earning something the long way and the reward. I don’t know, if people have the means to treat their children great, with that should come boundaries and lessons and those that haven’t got the means can learn and develop skills. Just different times I guess. If I had children now I would do what my mum did with me though and have that balance 😊
If the creators of social media platforms won’t allow their own children use the technology they create, that’s a key to social media needing guard rails.
Right. Put that phone down. Supervise your children.
Can't supervise them 24/7. The app should have legit age verification

Whoopi eye rolling every time Sunny mentions her kids or how she runs her house
I’m sorry Joy! I know you are a Biden lover, but that dude was wandering around! Someone needed to tap his back and guide him. A younger person or just someone like Joy would not need that. I feel bad for him and he needs to be vacationing like my dad in his 60s
Apparently you didn’t listen to what actually happened. He was talking to someone. Pay attention plz!!
Body image issues started way before social media!!! I would argue that there is some social aspects that kids get now days that we used to spend on the phone but parents also need to set rules.. i just think it’s multifaceted like most things
For once, I agree with Whoopi. "When you tell your kids to put their phones down, YOU HAVE TO MEAN IT."
Also, especially since the pandemic, technology in general has really been part of our day to day lives
If your response begins with the words, What about..your not staying focused
Social media use is prevalent among young people, with up to 95 percent of those aged 13 to 17 saying that they use a social media platform, and more than a third saying that they use social media “almost constantly,” according to 2022 data from the Pew Research Center.
Alyssa showed up in her pajamas, and I am here for it.
Treating a symptom is not treating the problem. The issue isn’t social media the issue is not raising your children to be critical thinkers and reason out situations. Remove social media and something else will fill the void to affect their mental health. Fix the root cause.
Interesting
At what point do parents take accountability?
The left believes that the government is our mommy and daddy
3 hours of social media screen time is a lot ! Maybe pick up a good book instead ?
This is a MUST! Maybe we can give parents an incentive by winning a bonus for every proven week of fasting from social media??? The REASON it's so important is not only depression, but PHYSICAL unfitness...in my case, I am in the music biz...doing productions...I even have to force myself to get away from the screen...get up and excercize. I didn't before and was inside too long...didn't get enough vitamin D and end up with weak bones....PEOPLE BETTA WAKE UP!!! MB have them watch WALI
Get those kids off social media and have them read books! If more people read, we’d have a more intelligent and peaceful world!
Well books are being banned, soooo
iPads are the new parents. They should be called iParent.
I agree 100 with this. Social media has a huge contribution to mental health.
Sunny Hostin keeps talking and adding her two cents when Whoopi Goldberg is talking as usual 🙄
Yes, like her point and view is the absolute end be all I notice this often. Or her throwing around, the “I’m an Attorney” handkerchief often too.😑😒😑
What about gender affirming care?
Why are you changing the subject?
@@tanyaldutton I thought we were talking about saving our children from the ultimate demise, I'm sorry.
Whoopi Joy Sara Sunny Alyssa Can you pls do a full special show on this with some guests It will really help to end this detriment done by social media AI and smart phones - Chanakya from Sri Lanka
Kids will never be the same as they were 30 and 40 years ago. These new kids are different out of the womb.
Didn’t we have the same concern about television in the 90s?
No.
If only they knew then what was coming.
MODERATION?!?
ADDICTIVE BEHAVIORS are too too too much time, & energy given to any one thing!
CONTROL YOURSELF!!, or regret it
How many of us have actually read the “terms of service” before clicking “I agree” or even give a toss about such things, honestly.
I'm so glad I was still in elementary school going to middle school in 2010 when the phone 📱 generation started
Sara looks so much better without the perm!
Warning labels sounds ineffective, at best. Doesn’t that sort of thing ATTRACT them to it. Whoopi was spot on about ‘the monkey being out of the cage’
He was wandering!
No he wasn’t… pay attention!!
How are they listening to each other if they all talking at the same time?
You couldnt call your family? Since when? I stayed in contact and even visited friends during the pandemic. Just safely for myself due to health issues.
Did they just use the way the gov't regulated and "warned" about cigarettes as a model for further regulations? Wow!
Agree. They consider that their “free speech” lol.
The Surgeon General should worry about actual medical conditions.
If the creators of social media platforms won’t allow their own children use the technology they create, that’s a key to social media needing guard rails.
I feel like this is something we can all get behind
Too late !
