Great Speech! I had my class watch you today! I am a career counselor and your speech was amazing. I work with Native Americans and this was perfect as we can all relate. I am a first generation Mexican American and your story resonates with myself and my class.

The fact that there's only 3 comments here tells me all I need to know. I WAS RIGHT, MEXICANS DON'T VALUE EDUCATION ( ESPECIALLY MALES, THINKS IT'S A FORM OF BEING TRYING TO BE WHITE, EFFEMINATE, NOT MACHO ENOUGH, NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE A BETTER LIFE THAN YOUR PARENTS ). BEING GOOD AT FIGHTING, INSULTING, MANUAL LABOR MATTERS MORE.

This is one of many experiences. I had a totally different experience but it did include ESL classes for years. I did not have teachers abuse me or hit me. In Tijuana teachers pulled my hair and pinched me. Lol

Because here we don’t have Mexican education, we have American education. We must assimilate and let the society decide what, if anything, from our other culture is worth keeping. We must unify as Americans, assimilate, and let go of the culture that failed us and our families. If being Mexican and “Mexican education” is so important to you, Mexico is right there, but this is America.

Im Hispanic I have had trouble with mexican they will make fun of you if you dont speak spanish correctly it goes both ways. Many times we teach them a trade and than when they learn it they will bid against you and do it for penneys. I saw this many times sad but it goes both way even with our own people.

As a person who looks indigenous and can speak my native tongue I totally agree. In Ecuador the Spanish speakers mock Kichwa for speaking Spanish with a three vowel accent because o and e does not exist in kichwa, and they use a racial slur called longo. And I’ve seen Mexicans who think they are better than the indigenous mocking native nahua speakers by adding tl at the end of a word and saying Nahuatl names sound like dog names. Don’t get me wrong indigenous are also the type to discriminate mikuy mikuy na karan yana wawami wachan is a kichwa saying that is insulting to blacks, and some kichwa also insult women with jarishina or say go home and cook. Humans can be awful

The problem with education in Mexico is that it is AT LEAST 150 years behind Europe - easily. Mexico is beauitufl in its traditions and cultures, but education is 'stuck' in tradition of books, and books, and books and then exams about those books. It is a shame because it is a delightful country, but it is also a country that it not interested in making any effort to change, yet it is disappointed with what it is in itself: complaining and doing nothing to develop - happy in its poverty

Try being white, non Spanish speaking, and living in Mexico. I sure wish Mexico would put the signs that are in businesses and Government building in English too, like they are in the USA. It’s really not an option to become a citizen... or to own land close to the coast or the borders. I despise being called a Gringo... and I sure wish that my name would be pronounced correctly one time. I may have to live in fear of kidnapping in Mexico, but at least the Tacos are inexpensive and really good.

Learn spanish then. You are in a country where spanish is the main language. Non english speakers are demanded to speak Englisb in the United States even though we are supposed to be diverse but are we?

@@Take_2_bible Spanish speakers don’t come to USA & learn English they just group together in enclaves & continue existing the way they did in their old country.
