    amazing! are you pushing down harder on the bow than u normally do? what changes do you do intentionally to get his tone?

      Well spotted, MM! I might be using slightly more bow pressure (or arm weight) and I'm also staying connected to the string rather than tapering the notes. I've noticed that South seemed to do that, especially on the lower strings. It sounds like he stays close to the bridge down there too.

    Wow, I always thought this recording was Grappelli on violin.

      An easy mistake, given that he's paired with Django. But South had a much more classical sound from his firmer contact with the string. His playing also sounded more whimsical and free during this era.

      @@zeppoeving I often try to pick out who's playing on the Bach concerto for 2 violins recording. I'll think that one of them is Grappelli and then the other one comes in and it's obvious that I had them backwards.
