  • West Virginia is known by many as the Mountain State. But for more than a century, those mountains lacked one of its long-time residents-the wild, free-ranging elk. Now, thanks to the efforts of cooperating state wildlife agencies, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and its fired-up volunteers, elk are back the ground on their historic West Virginia range. The latest group to arrive made it thanks to a cross-country trek and a pay-it-forward attitude from a fellow elk state some 1,000 miles away.

Its hard to quantify how great and successful the PA reintroduction has been on so many fronts...I hope W. Virginia re-intro enjoys the same success... and thanks to all the volunteers and support of the members of the RMEF

Welcome back to Home Sweet Home Country Roads. Even though I live in the Northern Panhandle, I wish that I would have known and been able to help. Thanks to all the volunteers from all over, thanks to RMEF and the kind people of Arizona. I am 36 and even if I don't get to hunt them on a limited draw tag in the future on public land in my home state of WV, I am happy they are here and I won't have to drive to Colorado to see them. Yes I know PA, KY, and WI also have them so that would be great to see them and hear them in the rut there too. :) This film is so true about the folk of WV, they love them Good Ole Days. One of the many reasons why I have recently become and RMEF member.

I hope it goes even farther than that. They would be very happy in Upstate NY and Ohio.

      Of course bulls are there..
Heck have 2 or 3 bulls and make the rest be cows...that's how WV will get the population up

I'm sure there were some bulls, they just don't have antlers during the time of year this was filmed. They drop them during the winter and start regrowing them in late spring/early summer.
