Vinland reminds me of a line from Thor: Ragnarok -- "Asgard is not a place; it's a people."
While Vinland experiment seemed short-lived according to history, the whole point of Vinland Saga was to tell stories about people who dream and try. It's never about the place they were going to, it's about human lives, struggles, and aspirations. It's about souls who once dared and sought hope to be free.

Historically, Thorfinn returns to Iceland after failing to establish Vinland. Thats what I think will happen here. Rereading chapter 164, Sigurd fights and beats his father Halfdan saying "Father, this country has not waged war with another in over a hundred years. What wealth could be greater than that?" along with Halfdan building connections towards the mainland. I feel during the voyage, Sigurd has started to create a strong connection with other countries forming the "codependence" Thorfinn was seeking. Once thorfinn returns, he will help Sigurd continue that, maybe forming trade with Ketil's farm for wheat. But I think it would be a great end that way, with the series starting with the fathers Thor and Halfdan carving their beliefs into their sons, then their sons continuing that into everyone they meet.
We all know creating a Utopia is impossible, but standing up for your beliefs and principles against all adversity has a great impact on the people around you. And if two people can influence 4, then those 4 can influence 8, that chain may lead to the land of peace thorfinn was hoping for. While he may not see it, he will definitely see the beginnings of it and THAT is the 1000 year voyage. The voyage of your ideals will travel and you will never see if they worked. Its been 1000 years since the irl thorfinn tried and now weve seen people today accepting "i have no enemies". Yukimura is creating his own 1000 year voyage with all of us, who knows what will happen in 3023

Vinland Saga reminds of Carl Sagan.
"From this distant vantage point, the Earth might not seem of any particular interest. But for us, it's different. Consider again that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there - on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.
Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.
The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.
There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.”

There is another one that I remember vaguely but I can't found. It is along the line, that one day there will be a species that will step out the shore of the cosmic ocean(milky way galaxy) to travel and wander the universe, but that species is not human. It is a species that is kinder, more compassionate , cooperative, and don't argue with each other. A species that will work together instead of fighting each other in the face of challenge. Will human advance into that species?

    Great video!!
I've too lately formed the opinion that even if this story ends tragically, yukimura will leave his readers, his audience on positive note.
After all, thorfinns of the world push for change, generation after generation.
From women, children being property of men to now being recognized as individuals having their own worth and human dignity.
From owning slaves to recognizing and then declaring equality
From living under feudalism to creating working democracies.
We have come far , But world is stil not perfect but we will keep working towards it.
We still need to become gentler persons, kinder persons, stronger persons.

  • @pieterlindeque7798
    @pieterlindeque7798 10 месяцев назад +7

We try because that is all we can do. Even giving up takes effort sometimes, so might as well try. The heart wants what it wants and denying that often hurts just as much as failure itself does. We can recover from failure and try again and again until the day we pass on, but a heart that is put in a cage, beaten down and deprived of all hope, unable to even try anymore is a broken thing. Vinland Saga to me is a story about the practical difficulties of being a better person and rising above the human condition, and how nigh impossible it is to actually live that in our broken world. So my answer to the question of "why even try?" is that trying and failing is a better fate than being dead inside and not living at all.

This was incredibly well done. I have also been thinking since reading about the actual Thorfinn Karlsefni's history, not what the ending would be but the point Yukimura is trying to make. I am so glad there's someone like yourself who thinks nearly identical to my own thoughts and interpretations, that could say it as well as you did. Vinland Saga has helped me tremendously as an individual, I don't think I would be who I am, and gotten away from what I was, without it. I can only hope that Yukimura is satisfied with what he writes for the ending, as in my eyes, the story is already perfect. Hild's forgiveness could have been a perfect ending for me, but knowing that Yukimura was preparing to write his final say, I strapped in and waited to see how exactly he envisioned Thorfinns failure. Like you, when I saw the chapter line "A thousand-year voyage" and the establishment of Thorfinns utopia 1000 years ago to the current year, I began to understand where Yukimura was going. I am ready for Vinland Saga to now. Yukimura's story has made it so that I wake every day wanting to be a kinder and stronger person, and now I am listening ardently to understand what it means to fail in Thorfinns eyes, as well as my own when this beautiful worldview is toppled by the unknowing nature of others. Why try? Because there's nothing we can't achieve by talking and understanding one another, even if we fail. Thank you for making this amazing video, you should be so proud. I pester my friends to read Vinland Saga all the time, and when the few do read it and catch up, I will have this video ready for them.

But this video... I think I'm going to remember it as an anchor point for me when my anxiety goes through the roof. And if anything, it'll be a good reminder for me to stay MY path as I keep praying I become a man who can stop others from being what I saw in that footage.

I really despise channels like yours, i'm watching the anime only and i don't want any spoilers and i get to see these videos pop up in my recommended through the algorythm.

The thumbnail doesn’t tell you anything and if you’re anime only I’m not sure why you would click onto a video talking about the future ending of the series.
I totally get it, I hate when channels carelessly spoil stuff, so I am always as careful as I can be when it comes to stuff like this. I’m sincerely not sure how this video gives anything away without already warning you. The first line makes it clear this is about the manga, and the intro leaves time to click off once you realize.
