@@fishercenterbard Lots of feelings for this one. Some terrific singing and characterizations. Many good tunes, but the story was a little padded for my taste; and SO many changes of attitude. I found the sets & costumes effective. Despite the length, I had hoped to see the Skating Ballet. Plot-wise, I wondered why the Anabaptists chose Jean as their Prophet, although I supposed it really didn't matter who it was. I also wondered why Jean didn't kill his fiancé's noble ravisher, as that seemed his major motivation. I thought the Anabaptist Trio was a stroke of genius. I did appreciate the Opera's examination of Religious Frenzy and also Religion's thirst for Power. I thought the scene where the Prophet tried to convince his mother she was not his mother, in front of the crowd of Believers, was really epic. I also liked his indecision about what was going on, and who he really was, absorbing. I'm very glad to have seen this: a very interesting Opera.
There were some other 'Le Prophete ' in Germany. For instance Berlin state opera and in Essen, both with best interpretation. To my surprise I found per incident this first class interpretation. Very well done in times not for great opera art. Shame for the not named singers. People is only interested in singers, all others can and should be forgotten. Wonderfull drammatic jewish music with a lot of new harmonic ideas. Meyerbeer, do not oversee "Les Huguenots", always writing against the chaos and fighting intra christianity. Great Thanks❤❤
OMG!! hello from Australia.. THANK YOU so much for sharing this.. Ive had the Marilyn Horne/Henry Lewis recording for yonks.. and never seen a production either on dvd or here on RUclips!! I'm really enjoying this.. Thank you again!
What a wonderful surprise. I never thought I would get to see this work, an opera I've been wishing to see for many years. This is excellent - thank you.
I’ve never heard the complete opera before. Thank you for performing it as written so today’s audience can hear the amazing music of Meyerbeer. Also, although it is an updated and modern production, thank you for treating the opera with such respect for its storyline and pageantry. I hope this is the beginning of a Meyerbeer resurrection in America!

all three lead singers are quite good, but both Watson and Edris are known singers. Feinstein does not seem to have a big career yet, but she’s excellent.
"[makes] the case for French grand opera". Not sure French grand opera needed the assist but, hey, thanks! This is a big production and very well done. Kudos to all. I first saw this in the Toulouse 2017 production here ruclips.net/video/l_s0PiNSg-U/видео.html The arms in the wheat just grabbed me and I sat and watched the whole thing.
I often wonder why an opera that is so rarely performed gets the modernist treatment. Great to see and hear this, but a more taditional staging would let the opera goer see what Meyerbeer had in mind.
Guys at least have the decency to identify the singers. It's extremely disrespectful to the singers not let us know who they are. Mr. Räth is mentioned a trillion times and not one singer is. Where would Mr. Räth be without them? Nowhere. What would he be without them? Nothing. So please show more respect to the singing soloists making the opera possible. Include their names here!
Fantastic! Thank you so much 💓!
I've always wanted to see this! Thank you, thank you, thank you. What a treat.
Excellent - hope you enjoyed the piece!

You might prefer the French production with John Osbourne:
