  • Join us as we explore the remarkable Fubuki class of destroyers, built for the Imperial Japanese Navy in the interwar period. These groundbreaking vessels introduced new design features that became standard on future Japanese destroyers. With a total of 24 ships, the Fubuki class can be divided into three subgroups, with the final four ships being so unique that they could be considered their own class. Surpassing even some of the Imperial Japanese light cruisers in firepower, these ships played a crucial role in World War II and proved invaluable to the Japanese throughout the war in the Pacific.

Suggest the book "Japanese destroyer captain" by Tamaichi Hara. He was a captain whose career spanned the war including command of cruiser Yahagi when sunk alongside Yamato. Very informative of small ship actions.

I've read it, very good. It's good to read things from the "looser's" side of things. I am guessing Hara is no longer with us. He seemed to be an honorable, humble man.

    Yes, cover more battles.
Japanese DD crews with their training on night actions and torpedoes were devastating to allied ships and we learned a lot of hard lessons.

      @chloehennessey6813 Год назад

One of those lessons at least; didn’t have to be learned. The destroyer screen of the Atlanta? They registered contacts that night. But the commander of that task force effed up big time and cost the allies some cruisers they couldn’t afford to lose.
I think that commander is lucky he died in that engagement. Had he not; with all of his subordinates testimony for his actions I’m pretty sure he’d have never seen command of anything bigger than a canoe again.

That was more of a USN issue, night fighting was well advanced in the RN.

I think the Japanese Navy's emphasis on torpedoes and night attacks went back to their successes in the Russo-Japanese war at the beginning of the 20th century. Specifically their relatively successful use of torpedo attacks, especially during nighttime surprise attacks, around Port Arthur. It must've cemented their doctrine early on. In the early years of WW2, especially around Guadalcanal, that focus certainly paid dividends.

This was a pretty good video and I really enjoyed. In my Opinion there are some minor points for improvement. The video seems to be three seperate videos combined: special type destroyers, fubuki service history and battle of cape esperance. While talking about the special type destroyers the part with the ripped of bows and the pictures of it were really nice. You could have maybe added more on their impact on the london naval treaty(?) and other navies to make it its own video. Also I would really like to see a full video on cape esperance!

You're not far off to be honest. I took an older script that I had not used and tried to rework so it was hopefully a little more interesting, and to give me some more time to get some other work done. Sorry, if it doesn't seem like a complete video.

The JN 5"L50 gun actually still used Bagged Powder Charges (not a brass or steel casing) and also had to be lowered to around 5 or 10 degrees off of horizontal. (See Drachinfiel's WW2 Anti-Aircraft Guns-Enforcing the No-Fly Zone.

A lot of lessons the IJN destroyer crews taught allied forces.
They didn’t evolve though and stagnated while the Allie’s grew and developed better tactics.

Japanese navy did not have any radar from the start until after Guadalcanal. Radar came very late and only to the battle ships. The Haguero was surprised by British destroyers which tracked her by radar .

    Good afternoon,
The need for this hull, it’s large torpedos was the death of the Navy or “EASY KILL”. Because of the fuel used to propel these monsters, resulted in the kill, they exploded with the deveistation of a main magazine. If fact the heavy cruiser’s would fire all torpedoes because of this fact. The torpedo was the allies greatest helpers. It became the cruisers Achilles heal. That two was the answer to the heavy ships of Japanese Navy and I agree. Besides, there was nothing was more devastating then a squad of Fletchers. If I was to pick just with a glance, i’d hands down join the Fletchers Navy. The Japanese even thought so.

Oxy torpedos would have been devastating in a jutland style action which the IJN envisioned. In the pacific war they were useless except at Guadalcanal. at the second java sea battle they tried to use them as doctrinally envisioned firing at a range beyond cruisers guns. They got like 2-3 hits out of like 130 fired

      Good morning,
Thank you for your response, specially for your information. I have a very deep dislike when it came to the Japanese side of WW2, so it was very professional to stay on subject when the whole war was a judgement against theirs nation. The nation of Japan learned the lesson of how needless and brutal they were as a people and how their their lives was meant nothing to the few who lorded over them, and they never learned their lesson until the nation was left with nothing. I also wish to point out that, we as a people didn’t leave them to rot but after all that was done to us as a people, we built up their nation again. If ever the history of mankind has been written, we as a people, whose God was their compass, God did not abandon our cause, we followed in the footsteps of God the father. But now in our period in history, our so called leaders have turned away from following God’s footsteps and have declared themselves King, are now following the ways of death and dishonour without repentance of the lies and deceit. This government of this type will always lead it’s people down the path of destruction. This is not a topic that is easy to explain when all you wished to do was talk about the ship and it’s advanced technology without any virtue of the mind that invented it. I’m so tired of the way everyone skirts around the goodness and love for life that we as a people are looked upon as “the destroyers of words” when we never instigated war in the first place. Our hour can yet be saved but for the evil has been heaped on us by evil that set Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and their satellite nations that pulled us into a time of war and nothing would sway them. I’m actually jealous of your nation under the leadership of President Trump who hated war and yet, because of false humility and vile wickedness, undid everything to destroy all of his accomplishments and in one hour of their leadership, destroyed with a stoke of a pen undid all the accomplishments of President Trump. Both of our nations are in a tail spin on the course of destruction, but for the peoples of our nation, in one voice turn these traitors out and reclaim our humanity. I hope that you can see who I see the history of our countries can so easily, in a very short time become the very evil that propelled us into the safe and loving people we once were. I cannot look to the virtue of the USA, Canada and all peace loving under God, the God who protected us and brought us to victory of the evil that was becoming entrenched in our innocence before the war and how we as a people became proud and arrogant believe that we did it, we are a great nation who lost sight of what made us great. Please understand that I’m grateful for the ability to share with you the lesson learnt in a life time of perspective and the one thing that your easae lacks is this portion of intelligence. You are very astute in the direction your thesis and the way you STAY on point is great, just remember this one thing, WW2 started because of all that I’ve spoken and much more. The record of history must always be tempered of made our cause righteous. This ship of wonders never did anything that the creators did with them. The torpedo that had so much promise in its purpose ended up being the tool that destroyed them. Yes our navy’s had an arrogance of being superiority to their enemy and because of this is truth, the leadership was destroyed and a different leadership became. The negro who was trampled on became our equal today all because of the changing of thought, but thought was not tempered and has become the “rulers of damnation” as they left the one thing that “MADE US GREAT AS A PEOPLE”following the way of the bible and it’s author, God the Father. Japan had the tools to win, but their ways were evil and evil has its defeat always. God allows only so much and then His patience with us ends and then He removes His protection and evil becomes our doom. Could you imagine if Admiral Lee had met Yamato instead of Kirishema in the night action that the USS Washington and the USS South Carolina. S.Carolina was devastated before it fire a shot but it was Admiral Lee who won the day. I pray that you pepper your next essay with remembrance of why it was created. Your work was well done and very informative, just don’t get caught up in it without the reason why. Our force’s never lost twice in a row but our countrymen suffered along with the arrogance of its leaders. Thank you for your response and I would appreciate it if we could do it again.
