Games are taking longer to be developed and are increasingly more expensive, it's obvious that they released it for the PC/PS5/Xbox Series hoping that the game would pay for itself but obviously it didn't, then they released it for the PS4/XONE in hope of making some more profit since the playerbase of these consoles is still very active.
It won't be any different next generation, especially with the PS5 Pro coming out soon. We might see an end to generational gaps in consoles like before.
For all the physical media lovers the answer is YES This version comes on two discs and doesn't need to download anything to play the whole game like the ps5/series X version did
For sure, the first game BARELY ran on last gen with comical pop-in that was even in cutscenes. Once the camera cut to Cere before her model loaded in, so her lo-poly potato model popped in and then finally loaded the high quality one.
Except on base PS4 and Xbox One, like explained in the video, that game struggles. It's more like on 7/8 year old hardware, because it's on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X where the game runs best for old gen consoles. But still, impressive.
I would say it’s the other way around. It’s not impressive making this game look good on old hardware, actually it’s a shame they can’t do better with current gen machines.
It’s running at 500p and 720p 😂 that’s not impressive. It’s a cash grab. It’s around 10 ish years that the Xbox 360 and PS3 started to get abandoned, the PS4 and Xbox One need to follow suit. They can’t keep up anymore
It's crazy that this game appeared to be CPU limited both on PCs & consoles at launch (perhaps due to RT cost but still) and yet its running on Jaguar CPU cores at mostly 30 fps just fine? Just shows how the avaliable CPU power is being used so inefficiently these days. We should have been getting games with much more advanced gameplay systems going from Jaguar to Zen 2 and yet we're barely getting anything we haven't seen on last gen.
Agree, most of the CPU power of zen 2 goes for 60fps mode on consoles but yet there is still room for improvements but developers don't want to spend more resources,I understand them,it's hard, really hard,it's not like making a movie
The problem with CPU utilization is 2 fold For modern consoles, the APU dynamically shifts power between the CPU and GPU, meaning using 1 means the other slows down, pushing heavy graphics menas slower CPU cores and heavy CPU usage means lower graphics quality, so devs are left to choose which to prioritize Compared to last gen where both the CPU and GPU dedicated power draw, meaning you can push both to their limits Now for PC, it's because of multi tasking becoming much more popular, you can't use the entire CPU because someone is probably going to have a youtube video on their other monitor, a download in the background, in a discord call, and even windows itself uses a lot of CPU nowadays Compared to even around the same time as the PS4 and XONEs launch it was still common that if you were playing a game on PC, you stopped doing ANYTHING else
When devs really put the effort to optimize it really shows, for example look at the port of the witcher 3 on the switch amazing, hate when devs dont optimize their games and ask for dumb requirements, a recent example is GOW ragnarok asking for avx2 instructions and more than 4gb of vram on pc leaving out a lot of players, the worst thing i see is that the dumb sheep say "buy a new pc" LOL
Hogwarts Legacy got one too, though 3 months after release. The size comes down mostly to textures, usually they take the most space in games, I think PS4 uses 256/512 ressolution textures and PS5 1024/2048 resolution textures, i.e. 1024x1024 texture has 4 times larger file size than 512x512 texture
@@ramiressrauul7705 is not the developers who decided the development investment, but publishers. So their efforts depends on the publisher's investments.
@@ramiressrauul7705If your PC doesn't support AVX2 instructions and only has 4GB of VRAM, you should probably consider taking that advice more seriously, unless you mostly just play older titles. A lack of AVX2 support means your processor is at least 12 years old and 4GB hasn't really been enough VRAM for quite a while now.
It's the audio that was optimized on the ps4 version. 150 gig for the ps5 is not even necessary. These devs are not just optimizing games very well these days.
It came out too late when Xbox's public image was too damaged to repair. If it had come in late 2015 or early 2016, things would have been very different for Xbox right now.
the gpu was pretty fucking gnarly for release time for a console. i dont think any console has ever had such a strong gpu for its time and might not ever have one that strong in comparison to pc hardware ever again. i fucking loved my one x. rdr2 in particular was just beautiful despite being 30 fps . good times.
@@oasisbeyond all versions were great for the hardware besides ps4 pro. That weird half axis resolution was trash and made it blurrier then the ps4 version( I bought both) Rockstar put in work for sure
Buying a PS4 at launch was probably the best financial decision most gamers did...11 years and counting of support is insane...like the only game they don't have is Spiderman 2 and in all honesty, sony could have made it bachwards compatible with PS4 if they wanted to by reducing the number of NPC, quality of textures, resolution and removing the new fast travel feature and replacing it with the old one.
@@STOPTHECLOWNS581 It's true though...like the PS4 game library is genuinely huge and it is the only thing keeping the PS5 afloat thanks to it's backwards compatibility....I'm a PC gamer so I don't really have any loyalty to any console, but PS4 owners really got their money's worth.
@@strahm998 sorry to hear that bro, but hey at least you got to play Spiderman 2 at launch...also the PS5 is still good value (especially compared to the PS5 Pro 😂).
@@strahm998 True, it may not have been necessary to buy it at launch, but you Ps5/Xbox Series folks will be able to play the new Dragon Ball Tenkaichi game, which is very exciting.
Honestly, PS4 and XOne hold up rather well considering its age and it's just so much, much better than what it was like in the end of PS3/360 era for those AAA games (sub 20fps, constant full screen tear) I think it has a lot to do with the 8GB of RAM in these old machines. I remember when the specs were unveiled back in 2013, everyone was very suprised by the massive (for the time) amount of RAM. And it definitely payed off.
I think PS5/Xbox Series Consoles to PS6/Next Xbox cross gen period will be interesting if we were to based on how long this cross gen period lasted. we are reaching point to going to be hard to tell which is the ps5/xbox series version and what will be the ps6/next xbox version when it comes to graphics.
@@TimDespairBear11 Sure but it's just the way it works for the new consoles as well. Xbox Series S for example only has 10GB (just 2GB more than PS4 gen!) of unified RAM and is still able to mostly provide the "next gen" experience as it's higher end siblings. Just to put things into perspective, PS4/XONE had 16 (!) times the amount of RAM PS3/360 had while PS5 only had a 2x increase.
@@TimDespairBear118GB was still a lot in 2013, back then people were running GTX670 with 2GB. On the PS4 Pro it has extra 3GB DDR3, but it's unclear whether it's for the OS or not.
@@TimDespairBear11 On the Xbox One. I recall reading the baseline PS4 has the full 8 GB, with an additional 256 MB of Ram for the OS, and background tasks.
@@0007JO it's better but still not as good as it could or should be. Koboh is a bit smoother but still suffers from stuttering, especially in the river with quality mode enabled. There is a repeatable major stutter when running from the stables around the corner of Pyloons where there is a grate on the wall and a plant next to it. I was hoping they would completely fix the issues so I could play new game+but it seems it will never be 100% just like Fallen Order is still not 100% fixed.
The one great positive is the install size being reduced by two thirds. It makes me wonder if they can offer this as an option for the PC version, and the full asset quality can be installed separately by an obviously free DLC through Steam's library.
Patch 9 is running much better on my computer, in particular in terms of 1% lows. It is a much better experience and the game feels like a GOTY type game when it gets this level of performance.
They could add a last-gen switch? Like old times some games have current-gen and next-gen switch on PC ports. Like Tomb Raider Legend, Transformers The game.
Yep - surely if they could push this last gen version out, it could maybe get Steam Deck: Playable - if not Verified? I hear Patch 9 makes it just about just about playable already (although officially unsupported) - I'm just finishing my Fallen Order SD playthrough first. HDR Lightsabres look amazing!
If you can get this working on a PS4, there's no excuse for the PS5 version to drop frames. Even Sony claim 3/4 of us pick FPS over visuals, I wish devs would accept that and stop pushing visuals at the cost of performance.
never gonna happen especially on the pc side . if a game isnt performing at 60+ fps most of the time it will be blamed on the user for having a weak system with underpowered cpu and gpu . this allows devs to just make good looking games which are easier to market
I have serious doubts that 75% is accurate. Most games use performance by default so casual gamers aren't going to bother changing the settings. That naturally leads to skewered results.
It still struggles af right now on both PS5 and Xbox Series X. Shows how much the developers and publishers really just care about the money from players buying the game, and not the state of it.
@@teddyholiday8038 I want to increase the resolution, please learn to read before commenting. It's low as hell, totally unacceptable on a current gen console what was advertised as a 4K device.
This is how I feel. I am not a framerate snob in 99% of single player games I play as long as the game is still fun and the fps is relatively consistent.
I mean, SSD's are super cheap anyway. I replaced the hard drive on my PS4 Pro about 1.5 years ago with an SSD (got a 960gb Kingston one, I can't remember the model, on sale for like $50). Sure you have to use SATA SSD that isn't as fast as NVMe. But when you compare it to mechanical hard drives getting a SATA SSD on a PS4 Pro gives it a huge performance boost.
@@Marinho10 it's been proved that in most games, an SSD upgrade won't improve load times as much as it should, on at least PS4 hardware. This is due to a limitation on I/O that already existed on PS3. That said, if 1:40 vs 2:00 is that big a deal for you, for the extra cost and likely reduced capacity (because SSDs are more expensive per GB...), then it is an upgrade. Just don't go expecting PC-like improvements
If you want lower wait times all you have to do is have a PS4 Pro with the Samsung T7 SSD and your wait times by comparison to PS4 hard drive are much much better. That's how I ran my games on the PS4 Pro With my Discs of course. Because I've honestly just never been dumb enough to buy digital. Maybe one day I will trade competence for incompetence and being a company dependent cupcake..... NO.. I won't Now I will tell you I'm not buying the scam that is the PS5 Pro
@@cldpt Exactly, people think an SSD is going to magically improve performance, it's *_BARELY_* going to do anything since the system itself has to be built/designed with SSDs in mind.
@@cldpt With my Xbox One X, I was using an external SSD and it was quite a bit faster than the internal drive. Nowhere near the Series X speed, but still a significant improvement. Pretty sure DR did a video on this a few years back.
Wait... how is this real? This is amazing. I was never so surprised about a game running on a console. I don't like consoles, but if had a PS4, bro, I would be glad about getting this kind of performance in a system that old, specially with that CPU.
An Xbox One X with an internal SSD is still able to pull decent weight and it is surprising. God, did they do that machine justice. If only they made the Series S had some of the Xbox One X specs (12GB of RAM, 6 teraflops).. it woupd have been such a beast of a mini-machine.
Series X was great, but here it seems strangely underhelming. How can PS4 run 720p and Series X only 900p??? I also find it almost illogical that PS4 Pro doesn't run 1080p, since that's pretty much what it always did best: run at 1080p what base ps4 ran at 720p.
I'm glad I got the ps4 verison. I also own it on ps5, BUT i'm playing it for the first time on ps4, and it's been fun so far. I also love that the ps4 copy has 2 discs to install, meaning you don't need to be online to play it vs ps5 where you need to download an update to even play it because EA was too cheap to do 2 discs....
@@hombrear nothing other than nostalgic feel and sometimes it feels better to play on lower graphics just due to again emotions and nostalgia . this is why older games like from ps1 ps2 ps3 are still played
I installed a SSD on both my PS3 and PS4, it dramatically decreased loading times for all my games. Even multi-player games I load in earlier then all the other players, so I'm stuck waiting 20 seconds for everyone else to load in. People on Reddit said that it would be useless to install a SSD on both PS4 and PS3 since the interface is SATA 1 on PS3, but I found that to not be true. Also, you can verify these claims by watching loading time comparison videos or testing for yourself. The SATA 1 interface on PS3 has a maximum transfer speed of 188/mbps but the standard 5400rpm hard drive can only do 75mbps, so there's a lot of leftover head room for a SSD.
Well yes, there is definetly benefits with an SSD, and temps is one of them for PS3. Altho the cuts in load times on a PS3 SSD its not as big as a PS4 SSD upgrade.
Because on PS3 it is more a problematic of decompression speed than pur IO, excepted when you open the XMB on a game doing intensive streaming. On PS4 it is definitely worth almost 100% of the time.
I still regret selling my OG PS3 that had PS2 backwards compatibility.... I was actually considering a SSD upgrade back then as I still played it a lot. But sold it for money that I needed at the time. I play PC mostly, but play my Gamecube, 360 and PS1 more than my PS4 Pro at this point. Especially since I've played most of the exclusives and a lot of them come to PC now.
Excellent analysis, Tom! Always a treat to see your work. One thing of note - the "white flashes" , or unreal's "ambient occlusion culling" has problems on PC, PS5 and Series X too and was never fixed, per reports on reddit and ea forums, so PS4 and XONE suffer even more with this method of asset streaming and I don't even know if its possible to fix without breaking the game. Also, been playing since launch and EA has released patch 1.02 for PS4 to enable trophies and pre order content to show up but the culling problem seems to have increased from the 1.01 patch, somehow, being extremely noticeable on closed spaces. Playing on base PS4 and hoping for a potential solution!
576p bruh That being said, the port doesn’t seem bad considering how it runs on PC and PS5/Series X. The game still looks and plays like Jedi Survivor. Impressive.
I still think it’s so crazy that everyone saw how the PS5 and XSX versions launched and EA said “yeah let’s try putting it on weaker hardware.” I think it’s even crazier that it isn’t a terrible port.
@@fenixa2z936I'm on PC. I play with a 4080 + overclocked i9 9900k combo, which is barely enough to handle the 4080 at 1440p if I have it at 5GHz. This game is pretty CPU heavy at times, and I have no idea how a PS4 CPU is able to run this at 30 fps. Bad performance? Sure, 100%, I wouldn't like playing like that because I have motion sickness. I wouldn't like playing this game on PS5 either, but damn! That's amazing performance for a PS4. I'm speechless.
EA/Respawn basically pulled out every trick that developers used to get UE4 games to run on Gen 8 consoles on this port. The fact that this game runs at anything passable is a tribute to the ingenuity of all developers and is as good of a swan song for the Gen 8 consoles as anything.
The fact that the physical versions on PS4/Xbox One can be played through the entire game without game data downloads is a major selling point. I snagged a PS4 copy myself (to play on my PS5)
@@karlhendriksehe just EXPLAINED IT, the game doesn’t need to download any online data when you insert it in the console. The game is fully on the disc making it so if Sony ever shuts down the servers it’s completely playable for years to come. Legit perceiving the game. Also, it being 50 gbs is also great as well
When covering last-gen, I wish you guys would do more comparisons between the load times of a standard PS4 and a PS4 with an SSD; after all, a $50 SSD is often an easier decision to make than a $500 console. My experience is that it's cut almost all of my load times in half
@@carlo5771 Idunno, is there really a point in upgrading? Most good games are remakes that also run on 8th gen, and even if not, a lot of cross-gen games still run fine-ish on 8th gen. that, and I can't help but find it a little funny how Ubi shifted to full online-only (can't install off the disc) only when they started making 9th gen-exclusive games.

It ran CP at 60 Fps and looked much better and had more traffic, NPCs etc. My PS5 has ray tracing mode on. Honestly it's because most 8th gen games that ran at 30 fps received an FPS Boost and now run at 60 fps on current gen. Couple that with the fact that loading speeds are much faster too. Honestly if you don't have the budget for a PS5 a Series S is more than enough to give you that next gen experience. I don't care about Ubisoft games. They're garbage
If I recall correctly, it doesn't make too much of a difference if you put an SSD in there because the actual console can only read it so fast. It does help but not by as much as you'd expect with a PC for instance.
@@beardalaxyDon't say what you don't know. Maybe you should install an hdd in a ps5 and see how slow the ps5 can be. Ssd in a ps4 pro increase the load times greatly.

Yall praising last gen for running this game when its pretty clear that its not great anyways, with heavily reduced visuals and still stutters in other areas. Smh, console players will find any way to praise their hardware at 30 fps.
Holy shit not only did they spend more time optimizing this for past gen (and actually succeded), they also fit it completely on 2 discs. Somehow it looks like they hate the current gen compared to PS4 and XBONE.
I highly recommend swapping out the hard drive in the PS4 Pro for an SSD. I did that for my daughter so she could play games like Fortnite, and it dramatically improved the experience and cut down on loading screens and texture streaming. Even the PlayStation home screen runs smoother along with downloading and installing games. When the PS5 Pro comes out, she will graduate to the standard PS5, but for my PS4 gamers, please do this.
The PS4 base\slim model only has a SATAII connection of 300MB\s, while the upgraded PlayStation 4 Pro supports 600MB\s transfer speeds aka has SATAIII ... in other words, PS4pro with a SSD is jaw breaking in loads...
It looks fine for what it is, kinda fascinating to see resolutions like 720p on PS4 and 576p on Xbox One though, they barely had games with low resolutions like that. I can see this game getting also ported to the Switch 2, interesting to see how well that version will look now that we know the surprisingly good specs.

There's alot that can be done on systems with even the performance of the base Xbone. Good game design is good game design and reducing asset quality doesn't mean the game is necessarily worse unless there's a serious performance degrade.
Idc what anyone says, the PS4 and Xbox One are still capable machines if the games are actually optimized for them. They could still stick around for a lil while longer if devs still wanted to support them. Im still rocking my One S
I gotta be honest. But I feel really lied to this gen about the importance of ray tracing. I really never give a shit about native reflections. I would much rather have easy 60fps at 4k or even 1440p.
At first I was confused to see such a small bump in resolution on Pro and One X, but after watching fps tests I'm on board with that decision, the performance is just so much better
I’m playing it on a ps4 slim with an ssd the game is overall running very good sole texture popping and some slowdown when there are a lot of enemies on screen like more then 6 but apart from That this is a solid port, can believe I’m saying this but Thank you Respawn and thank you EA
The differences wouldn't be massive. If I remember correctly, the Ssd helps with textures loading in more quickly. Loading times were usually just 5-15 seconds faster.
Great analysis from Thomas. I must say that this is good for people who haven't upgraded as of yet. Respawn has a great history especially with their Titanfall series. If Jedi Survivor didn't have the technical shortcomings, it may have won Game of the Year. I know many people that still have the PS4Pro and Xbox One X. I'm happy they will be able to experience this title decently given the hardware.
What a beautiful game It just ended right now on pc after that time i thought it was not a good game purchase at a discounted price and what a journey it is really ahead of his time
Yeah devs need to stop relying on better hardware to carry their badly coded games. Clock speed hasn’t even doubled after 20 years of CPU progress, like we already had 3.8Ghz CPUs back in 2004. IPC is hitting a wall at this point too so the only way to get better performance moving forward is higher core counts and better code optimization
For anyone interested, i just tested loading times in ps4 pro with ssd. Loading into the game (not counting the logos) takes 24 seconds and fast traveling about 11. Also assets pop up is still present but not really bothersome. Did not check the sync issues on cutscenes yet ( actually i did not notice any issue so far but i was not specifically looking for it).

Same can be said when adding a SSD to a PS3... the added speed of 50MB\s more, maybe is not a boost (the normal HDD drive on Sata-150 could only do 100 to 120MB\s)... but you feel it , when the system loads faster, icons are loaded faster... games run from 6 to 10 seconds faster... its not a boost , but in the long run its adds up... and you save a hour in loads alone ... fine example would be Yakuza 3 on PS3 with a SSD is just a blast to play ...
a fantastic effort really, compare this to something like the cross-gen release of Shadow of Mordor, that should've been illegal to sell while this is definitely a playable version of judder survivor
Excellent review again, Tom! Would love to see this tested with a PS4 Pro and One X with a SSD. I Might play it on my PS4 Pro with 1TB SSD instead of my gaming PC. I find the cutbacks on PS4 Pro less jarring as the performance on PC... I think they made this version so they could also port it with relative minor effort on Switch 2.
I think the 8th gen was one Microsoft and Sony need to reflect on. I mean that generation had the anemic Jaguar CPU that was already severely underpowered at launch but they were able to revise and price cut the hell out of both consoles and that's what we have missed this generation. I mean the PS5 uses 5lbs of copper just to cool the damn thing and to my knowledge not much has been revised to cut production costs on either. The PS5 and Series X should be $350-400 4 years in. and I understand Covid and the inflation of the current economy have made a big impact but I think that makes the price cuts needed even more over the push to make a Pro variant that is not only expensive but requires another $100 to have a basic stand and Blu-ray drive.
It's amazing how great a game can look and perform when developers don't insist on using ray tracing. Just imagine how good games could look on current hardware without ray tracing.
Would've liked to have seen a more in-depth comparison of the PS4 version running at 60fps on PS5 VS the PS5's native 60fps performance mode, so we could see what difference in visual quality between the two. I haven't got the game yet due to my immense backlog and I'm torn between the PS5 version (which requires a download), and the PS4 version which is complete on disc. I do like to actually OWN my games, so if I got the PS5 version I kind of wouldn't since it requires a download. If the visual quality of backwards-compat 60fps vs native performance mode 60 fps were close enough, I'd get the PS4 version in a heartbeat.
This goes to show that we could have kept the old consoles for 2 extra years easily. Necessity is the mother of invention. When you give developers more powerful hardware they typically slack, as they bruteforce the game. If it were up to them we would need a 4070 to run Tetris.
is not the developers who decide the development investment, but publishers. Publishers invest their money or get money from share holders and decide the development aspects(time, money other resources, etc). The devs are the hired guys, they are doing what they are payed to do.
Huge thanks for this analysis Thomas! I didn't believe this will happen when you guys talked about it a year ago and just few hours ago I fired up Survivor on my surviving PS4 Pro with SSD. I had pull up some ps5 footage because I didn't believe how good it looks at first. I wanted to wait for PS5 Pro but it's not worth it at this point, maybe someday. I am also curious if my ps4 disk running on ps5 would produce that 60fps enhanced performance mode (sounded like that from your words :) )
Thanks for this really interesting review. This looks great! I've been giving this a wide berth on Steam since launch and hadn't given the last Gen versions a 2nd thought until now. However, with my PS4 Pro SSD, I'm willing to give it a go 🙂
This is stupid who cares about Cals hair looking smoother on ps5 it's a ps4 game for ps4 user like me. it looks great on ps4 .go back to your ps5, but do not compare to Downplay the ps4 it's a difference none of us care I just want to play it looks great on ps4
Reproduced all of these during my 8h playthrough. Good job. A couple of things not mentioned here as of version 1.02: - bit crushing in fixed cutscenes also happens in PS4 Pro and it's constant. It affects dialogue, SFX, ambient sounds and sometimes even music, sometimes all at once. This looks like an asset problem, these tracks are not in full quality; - A mix of LOD issues and rendering bugs related to asset IDs make the workbench a veritable mess. Blaster attachments forget what they are on each part (for example, using an underbarrel attachment instead of the scope for that part) and never apply the material textures you've chosen to the finished model. The moment it is set on the table, it forgets the texture and just applies a default weathered chrome. The same happens for the lightsaber customization, in particular for the greatsword exclusive parts. Messy and needs addressing with a major update. My assessment is that there is really no excuse as to why the install on such a massive game needs cutbacks. A major update should restore assets fully with better coding, with improvements to streaming of said assets. The severe LOD problems in larger stages shouldn't translate to these white flashes, there has to be another way here, this looks sloppy. I believe this can hold to its targets with improved refresh routines, catered specifically to last gen hardware's limitations. Whoever is managing this effort should prioritize this within reason and we'll get a slightly more polished experience, even with the lesser quality assets and overall effects suite. 1.02 is a hotfix, it fixed behavior stuff like Cal getting stuck in a stance unable to holster the lightsaber, which was really causing problems to the experience. Here's to hoping they release a major update that I can enjoy in NG+ because the game as it stands, has enough jank to be severely distracting at times. A shame, because the expansion on Fallen Order's mechanics and exploration is truly amazing, making this THE BEST Jedi game of all time and possibly one of the most comprehensive Star Wars adventures of the medium. This needs to measure up to the evident AAA status it's going for.
Wow my PS4 Pro staying alive thanks to devs like respawn who keep making last-gen port ! Guys please let’s support the devs and buy the last-gen version to show how grateful we are ! Next port Tekken 8 please ! 😍 /s
Damn imagine how smooth the game would be if these low quality assets were available on the base version The difference to me just looks like black flag/shadow of mordor on 360 vs black flag/shadow of mordor on xbox one. The visual upgrades on the ps5 aren't enough alone. Only the load times are the real driving force.

This is a great backport! Its amazing to see this fully playable, completable and enjoyable on last gen consoles. The proper sacrifices are made. There are atrocious releases on 8th gen that are far problematic than this for example cyberpunk 2077 which was horrible. Hope to see more of these backports at least till 2027.

It's seriously impressive they made it work and look this well on 11 year old hardware.
So it seems they spent more time optimizing last gen than current?
The problem with CPU utilization is 2 fold
For modern consoles, the APU dynamically shifts power between the CPU and GPU, meaning using 1 means the other slows down, pushing heavy graphics menas slower CPU cores and heavy CPU usage means lower graphics quality, so devs are left to choose which to prioritize
Compared to last gen where both the CPU and GPU dedicated power draw, meaning you can push both to their limits
Now for PC, it's because of multi tasking becoming much more popular, you can't use the entire CPU because someone is probably going to have a youtube video on their other monitor, a download in the background, in a discord call, and even windows itself uses a lot of CPU nowadays
Compared to even around the same time as the PS4 and XONEs launch it was still common that if you were playing a game on PC, you stopped doing ANYTHING else
@@JBIGroup3Dthe Zen 2 cores on current gen consoles are very stripped down Zen 2. Low cache, low boost clock, and gimped floating point

Also from 150GB to 50GB is crazy

@@Marinho10 it's been proved that in most games, an SSD upgrade won't improve load times as much as it should, on at least PS4 hardware. This is due to a limitation on I/O that already existed on PS3.
It’s definitely worth it for both systems to install a SSD 💯
Well yes, there is definetly benefits with an SSD, and temps is one of them for PS3. Altho the cuts in load times on a PS3 SSD its not as big as a PS4 SSD upgrade.

@@karlhendrikse yeah doesn't bother me really to just play it on the PS4 would be cool, if anything it makes me appreciate the performance on the ps5 to not take it for granted, I do appreciate tech even if I don't understand it completely, it's nice to have both originals and remaster/remakes, after all what's the point of a remaster when you don't have the original around to compare it too, I wish we could have an Ico/Shadow of the Colossus pack with both original, remastered and Remake all to play on Both PS4 and PS5, imagine if they did the same to Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider and God of War with Signature legacy Upgrade packs, that would be awesome to alter frame rates with mod packs that's mod pack friendly, I would buy the absolute lot if they did something like that, I'll end my yarn with I'd just love to see new n old Games ported to all consoles n PC's that's the ultimate dream there, game Dev's and companies would benefit immensely from this especially with respect given to both gamers and Dev's, just like things use to be, I miss it, the odd game still shines through tho
Last gen is still capable. I got no complaints with down ports.
"Series S is holding back this generation!"
Meanwhile, developers are still making games for base PS4 & XB1 😆
I’m playing it on a ps4 slim with an ssd the game is overall running very good sole texture popping and some slowdown when there are a lot of enemies on screen like more then 6 but apart from
That this is a solid port, can believe I’m saying this but Thank you Respawn and thank you EA
Would be interesting how a PS4 (Pro) with an SSD holds up ...
The differences wouldn't be massive. If I remember correctly, the Ssd helps with textures loading in more quickly. Loading times were usually just 5-15 seconds faster.
Samsung evo 870
Ps4 (pro) isn’t able to fully utilize an SSD.
I have PS4 PRO 7216. External Samsung 2TB 870 QVO. Load 23 second !!!
@@MisterReen It has SATA 3
Great analysis from Thomas. I must say that this is good for people who haven't upgraded as of yet. Respawn has a great history especially with their Titanfall series. If Jedi Survivor didn't have the technical shortcomings, it may have won Game of the Year. I know many people that still have the PS4Pro and Xbox One X. I'm happy they will be able to experience this title decently given the hardware.
This is incredibly impressive
576p is a CURSED resolution on a modern 55/65" TV, but overall the concept of porting games to older hardware seems like an interesting idea.
You guys should test the 8th Gen versions on the 9th gen machines. It honestly might be the best way to play.
They did and it was mentioned in the video.
In which part?
What a beautiful game It just ended right now on pc after that time i thought it was not a good game purchase at a discounted price and what a journey it is really ahead of his time
Honestly this looks perfectly acceptable on the pro, Moore's law is definitely dead and we need to stop pretending it's still alive.
Back in my day we got maybe 6 frames per second AND WE LIKED IT! XD
I think this is a great thing. Current games have to work on older hardwares to be better optimized on modern ones
I'm impressed it runs at all on last-gen consoles. It's a pig even on my PC so watching it run somewhat passable on a PS4 is frankly amazing.
this game will improved drastically with an ssd in those machines
NGL I’m getting nostalgic seeing that 720p* resolution. kinda like when we had cross GEN with 360 and PS3
I guess they did this weird backport as a test on how well it'll perform on the Switch 2 which will have PS4 specs.
The PS4 base\slim model only has SATAII connection of 300MB\s, while the upgraded PlayStation 4 Pro supports 600MB\s transfer speeds aka has SATAIII ... in other words, PS4pro with a SSD is jaw breaking in loads... not to mention Sony PS4 HDD is a 5400rpm 150MB\s drive ... so yeah ... even adding one to a base PS4 would give better results in this test
Having PS4Pro on the ssd from launch... never had a problem. Loading is 30 sec top... vast majority of games are 15 sec
@@Stanjara yeah , this is why i don't get them ... i know they are trying to show how it behaves on stock PS4 hardware... but anyone that still owns a PS4, already changed the drive in it, to be a SSD!!! The load speeds, in anything... from streaming Data, to Saving...are just unreal... like its a new Console... compared to the stock 5400rpm HDD
4:10 small nitpick, the droid is BD-1 not BB-8 ;P
BB-8 is the ball droid from the latest Star Wars Trilogy movies :)
a fantastic effort really, compare this to something like the cross-gen release of Shadow of Mordor, that should've been illegal to sell while this is definitely a playable version of judder survivor
Yup, Astro Bot says hi
No one was expecting a massive pandemic to hit as soon as the consoles were set to drop
is not the developers who decide the development investment, but publishers. Publishers invest their money or get money from share holders and decide the development aspects(time, money other resources, etc).
The devs are the hired guys, they are doing what they are payed to do.
Great video. Thanks for the in-depth analysis!!! PSPro player here. I think i might pick Survivor up if it goes on sale
This game looks amazing also plays smoothly actually enjoying it for the PS4
1:51 Is that Silent Hill 2 I spy with my eye 👀
All things considered, ports look quite good considering how old the hardware is. If I didn't made the jump already I'd play it on PS4 easily.
Who stayed on the One X made a epic decision. What are you really missing out? Only Cyberpunk expansion really.
I have the series x but bough the xbox one version for my one x cause i love that console and am loving the game
It’s crazy seeing a game built it on Unreal 5 game run on a console from 2013.
I expect this game to run fairly well on Switch2
At least locked 30 but hopefully a 60fps mode with DLSS
I'm surprised with the quality of the port on PS4 given the bad optimization on PS5. looks very playable for a base PS4 game.
Reproduced all of these during my 8h playthrough. Good job. A couple of things not mentioned here as of version 1.02:
- bit crushing in fixed cutscenes also happens in PS4 Pro and it's constant. It affects dialogue, SFX, ambient sounds and sometimes even music, sometimes all at once. This looks like an asset problem, these tracks are not in full quality;
- A mix of LOD issues and rendering bugs related to asset IDs make the workbench a veritable mess.
I would love to see you come back to this game on the PS5 PRO. Since RT is the selling point.
Damn imagine how smooth the game would be if these low quality assets were available on the base version
The difference to me just looks like black flag/shadow of mordor on 360 vs black flag/shadow of mordor on xbox one. The visual upgrades on the ps5 aren't enough alone. Only the load times are the real driving force.
Rose tinted glasses, Mordor on ps3/360 was pure garbage 🗑️ was a major step up on ps4/XB1
@@chrisbrown113096 Yeah not the same, at least this one is playable.
@@ivand5699 yeah at least this game looks good and presentable. Mordor on ps3 lacked aliasing, + weather effects made it like a 15/25fps game 💀
We need separate optional HD texture packs download to return, would be nice to be able to cut off install size significantly while improving performance
@@AhmadWahelsa exactly, i think most people would choose to have the lower resolution texture packs even if they had higher fidelity systems
Honestly, it’s impressive considering everything.
Holy shit it looks really good for a backported title
This is a great backport! Its amazing to see this fully playable, completable and enjoyable on last gen consoles. The proper sacrifices are made. There are atrocious releases on 8th gen that are far problematic than this for example cyberpunk 2077 which was horrible. Hope to see more of these backports at least till 2027.
Hitching is probably due to the HDD. Toss an SSD into the PS4/PS4 Pro and report back.
Imagine they give us all these visual options as a 120fps mode on Series X and PS5… One can dream. XB1X/PS4P games already looked pretty great despite the low resolutions. The higher FPS would be such a welcome addition.
