ABOUT ME
I’m 32 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 850 breeding ewes.
I shore over 19,000 sheep this season in the UK and have my own shearing run which lets you see many different farms in the summer months.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on RUclips and decided I could have a go and now here we are!

Really impressive from Emily and Lizzy competing so well with the men 👏👏👏. Size and strength can mask weaknesses but to get to where they are takes a lot of guts and determination. Hopefully it inspires more lasses to make the leap and put the hours in. They are basically doing the equivalent of going head to head with men in a marathon. Massive congratulations to both of them.

As a handspinner, I can attest to the absolute nuisance value of second cuts! They felt in odd places, creep in where you don't want em, and make a hellacious mess! Too, if they get carded in, the yarn os likely to pill and shed--ick!

Those competitions are really intense. Love watching these. Congratulations to you and Lizzy on winning. Lizzy doesn't let pregnancy slow her down... yet. Obviously when her belly makes bending over difficult, that'll make shearing awkward.

Woohoo!!!! Great!!! Congratulations to both of you! I think that the other shearers that are competing with Lizzie should have to wear a fake pregnancy belly. Love the titles on the screen with people's names and the funny jokes beneath. And it's nice that you have your number one fan in the front row cheering you on - Jock!! (As long as you keep giving him sandwiches) lol The ribbon colors are confusing to me (in the US)...As far as I know we use blue for first place, red for second place and white for third place.When they gave you the red ribbon, at first I thought you had come in second place, but then I saw the trophy and slow me figured it out. :) Just wondering, when you're shearing in competition are you even aware of the other competitors or are you completely focused on the shear? Nice to see Rosie again. Do the rousies have a separate competition or are they judged at the same time as the shearers?
