You can’t “drain” it at home, has to be done by a medical professional via a tympanostomy tube. Otherwise you can try a nasal steroid like fluticasone (just don’t use more than directed. No matter what you do, it will naturally drain as the swelling decreases and your Eustachian tubes open. He literally covered all of this in the video.

  • @TheTravisTube

Basically, there’s a lot of things that can lead to fluid building up behind your eardrum, and you need to go see your doctor so he or she can figure out what the underlying cause is. You could need any number of things to fix it: antibiotics, ENT surgery, or it could resolve naturally . Whatever you do, please do not perforate your eardrum in an attempt to drain it because then you will have not only fluid/pus but also blood coming out of your ear.

Because you need to figure out what is causing the fluid to accumulate and treat the underlying condition. That’s way more important than just “draining it.”

Everywhere I look they always talk about this issue in respect to children. I’m a 50yr old male, and have fluid in my ear now, and an infection in the other ear. Dr has me on antibiotics for 10 days. It’s now end of day 6, no changes yet. Yellow fluid periodically drains out of left ear.

@Bob Renao it’s been 10 days now. No improvement yet. When I blow my nose, I’ll feel it open up for literally one second and then go back to being plugged up. Dr is saying this could last anywhere between 6-12 weeks.😟 I really hope not.
