Crazy you say that because I said to myself he has guarded Wemby the best Thus far even though he still gets shitted on he be giving wemby some fits at times
Makes perfect sense tbh, the game would be blown wide open for the Spurs if they let him get fouled out still doesn't excuse the sorry-ahhh pick-and-roll defense tho
that's valid but the strategy of basically guaranteeing the spurs a bucket every time, then hoping sabonis can get you one on the other end.. is *interesting*
Really great breakdown and analysis on this game. I'll never understand how the old heads think it's just shooting threes to modern basketball when it's actually more nuanced then it's ever been. The good teams will always use threes as a means to an end.
There's oldheads like me who see it and who also remember that illegal defence made basketball an isofest in the 90s. Both eras have great stuff and not so great stuff. I prefer the modern game as it, as you say, has more going on/is more of a chess match.
It's cause if they don't switch. Wemby can pop to shoot a catch and shoot 3 or if sabonis is closing out hard wemby can easily blow by. And he shot good that night. When wemby is shooting the ball well there's no gameplan for it.
They can choose to let Chris Paul beat them and let Sabonis just stay home on Wemby. DeRozan could then have helped out of the corner (although he would probably be ineffective as Paul would go for the mid range jumper instead of a layup) with Fox splitting the difference between Johnson and Castle.
@maartenvz so, concede a cp3 layup? Or send an extra man to contest the cp3 layup and cp3 gonna pass to an open shooter? Julian, Keldon and vassel all above 50% from deep that night as well.
I wonder if the Spurs have some sort of secondary reaction if teams don’t switch, if they can find a way to exploit the defense even when a switch doesn’t happen, they’ll be good fast.
tbf even if they don't switch wemby has an advantage vs most guys.. a lot of teams in nba just re-screen if they dont get the switch the first time too
I don't get it, why they put wemby so far from the rim, and do dribble with risk being steal. Why dont put him like Kareem Abdul Jabbar, near the rim, and do skyhook or jump shoot.
Teams are constantly switching on Wemby because they saw the Rockets put Brooks on him and think any sturdy guard will do

different was he was fouling wemby the whole game
feel like DB is mad underrated now because people focus too much on his antics and not his basketball
3:27 He is unbelievable!
video game character!
3:53 , At the time Sabonis had 5 fouls, so maybe they where trying to keep him off Wemby.

hence the title!
They tried to stay attached but had like 6 fouls 4 minutes in so you have to either switch or risk putting them at the line and fouling out your guys
hence the title!
Jeremy Sochan stands out so much from the rest 🤣
the hair is wild haha
This was a really good video, man. You got a sub out of me.
thank you bro that really means a lot

if the spurs can get trae young in place of cp3 when he leaves that would be an unguardable pick nd roll😂
wemby the perfect person to cover for trae's defensive liabilities tbf
