• JOE COCKER - unchain m...
Josh Stewart from Off the Wall School of Music in Seattle did a great job creating a transcription.
"Do that 'until you get bored..." I love it!
Thank you. I have been trying to figure out that last lick for years. Your explanation was so simple and understandable
Excellent video, thank you...we are picking this up in our group and this gives me great inputs to do the piano part... TY
Grazie Chris! Thank you from Italy
VERY good tutorial. Particularly the details of the introduction. Also the lick he taught as part of this intro is applicable to improvising in many other songs. Thanks very much Josh! This was excellent.
love it! I've just bought a piano after years of deliberating over it....it gets delivered tomorrow...and this is the perfect start to playing for me....I love how he has the upper keyboard highlighting what he's playing. I don't really read music..i play by ear..and watching this is brilliant. I"m SO in love with 9ths and anything that distorts the original cord...makes it sound so cool. thank you!!! I'll be watching you more for sure Josh.. xx
Josh is awesome!
I really enjoyed this. Great break down. Thank you so much.
I always call E7#9 the Jimi Hendrix chord. He used that chord pretty extensively. The fingering isn't as cumbersome on guitar as piano. Really nice tutorial here, new sub!
if piano players know what a Jimi Hendrix is ;o)
I never thought about it but you’re right.
Really great tutorial at exactly the right pace - moves along nicely!
thank you so much...
you are a perfect teacher.
i play about more than 22 yrs piano but have never need to learn or impro/melody in blues or country scale.
the song i playit boring. now it's perfect.
And im ready for more Jamsessions because i know what i do now!!!
keep it up dude...
What a great tutorial! Thank you for this!
@seangarland - thanks! Josh is a great teacher. I'll definitely be posting more videos from him as he makes them!
Man this is inspirational. I'm so excited with the #9 chord. Excellent and clear lesson. Thank You. Nicki Bowles. B Music (hons)
Great tute Maestro! This helped me clean up my intro and expanded my voicings. More videos please.
Thanks for your nice tutorial! This helped me a lot!
Great job...more please. It was really step by step and very clear. Thanks
Superjob! Great teacher. Please consider more of these songs (esp. Joe Cocker).
Wow greatly explained and played so flawlessly. Thank you so much.
Great teacher! Thank you. A simple but educational piece that will allow for a lot of improv.
That's fantastic! you are very good!
I think you are exactly the kind of teacher i need. Awesome!
Thanks, that was a really good tutorial. It's a pity Josh doesn't do the whole song for us at normal speed (like at 11:15).
Thanks for the awesome video. My band wants me to learn this song. Now I can!
great video. i'm an old guy attempting to teach myself piano. this is a great resource. thanks.
You are an excellent teacher! Thanks
I´ve been looking for this tutorial for a long time.
THANKS!!!
great teacher...Thanks Chris
Amazing teacher
Thank you so mach !!!!!
Good teacher!
Thank you very much! Your explanation is so clear and easy to understand
It also helped me a lot! Okay perhaps some things are not 100% original and some infos missing. BUT !!!! With this video you can learn the hard parts without to listen to the song intro 150 times and its easy to understand now!
I have one correction: At the first down scale the correctly chords om the right hand are: am, G, am, em, D, C, am. (just play it from right to left and hold the A with left hand)
Nicely explained, thanks
This is awesome. Thank you so much!
Thank you!!
Great tutorial!
Verry good
Proper voicings. Well done.
Thanks heaps Josh, I have always wanted to play that descending riff, but could never be bothered to learn it because it sounded too hard. You showed me how easy it is, subscribed, cheers from Australia ;-)
Great voice, by the way :)
Thanks!!
Great Tutorial!! everything there is
@namelessrevisited
Absolutely correct. It's not splitting hairs. That's why I corrected myself. Thanks and I hope you enjoyed the video.
Joshua
New sub! Great for teaching me some bluesy / gospel tricks.
Excellent lesson! Josh makes it look simpler than it is (at least for a beginner like me).
cool, and understandable... many thanks from France ( a rnb´ fan...)
Que bien explicado un capo
The notes/chords are perfect! But could you also explain the rhythms at 11:15 PLEASE?? I'd also pay for it!
Absolutely Awesome! Thank you :)
Great Job.
great !!!!!
Great tutorial, thanks !
Thank you very much!!!
great!!! thnx so much !
enjoyed this! Thanks for posting
Hello
Hi there.
Very nice walkthru Joe Cocker's Unchain my heart. Would you be so kind to show/explain how the last part of intro is played - thats is the A minor blues scale from top to bottom. Not the "easy-to-play" version as you show here.
All the other things are amazing :-) but I still miss the "real" sound from the last top-to-bottom stroll on the piano :-)
Best regards
Thanks a lot dude ....... you're great !!!
cool!!!
Thanks!
Hi there, dig the videos! Just one question, I see you are using midiculous, but how did you get the keyboard to the top of the screen in your video editor?
Any chance you could show us the main structure , love it!
Thank you
Could you write down sheet music or at least a cord sheet for this? Its awfully hard for me to memorize it..
I know man! That's my favourite part of the video.
Thanx!
The correct inharmonic is G# sharp not Ab. There is no Ab in the key of A minor or in a E 7#9 chord for that matter. Call it splitting hairs if you wish. Ab and G# are the same note but the musically correct name for that note in the key of A minor or E major is G#
Thanks Chris. Nice!
SMcIlhenny yeah this is from josh. He is great. I’ll let him know!!!
@@ChrisMarx Thanks Chris. Way to lay it down Josh! Let's do some more!
is the accompaniment part @11:16 that of the record or are you just improvising?
Thank you for this. The E 7 needs to have the 3rd labeled as G#, not Ab. It was throwing me off at first. Thanks again.
could you do more vids please?
I know this video is from a few years . (2011) but I have been "teaching" myself, and I will be movie to Seattle area soon (summer I think) and wonder if you teach ?
This is a good tutorial except you should have played the finished song at the beginning, so the student knows what he is really trying to learn,
Hey, great tutorial. Just one thing, Joe Cocker didn't play this piano part. In fact I'm pretty sure he didn't play any instruments at all.
where can i found these piano notes?
i will be very thankful
Could you please give me the sheet music for this song?
Unknown brilliant version of "Unchain My Heart" 😎 ruclips.net/video/YnI3RzmiOck/видео.htmlsi=iSoSp0S3BvInN7jA #joecocker #unchainmyheart #vocaloid
The D chord in the blues down-scale is a major, not minor. Otherwise - thank you!
Thank-you. Better later than never I guess. Just could not get that chord run down.
i don't agree with the chords in the "hammond glissando riff" around 7 minutes ... is'nt the E7#9 chord included too to creat more tension?
what is blue mean when you say blue
Круто
Pourrait t'on l'avoir en français
Great instructional video... you nailed it. Two requests: 1) Can you share with us the chord progression on the gospel chord following the palm slide?
2. What software are you using to show the notes that are above the playing keyboard? Was this done live or post-production?
Thanks for a great tutorial!
DD
It is not appropriate to announce the song you are covering in the way he does; he does not show much respect in the opening '...or whatever it is called.....' A truly great teacher has respect for the melodies, composed by others. I am a teacher, not a great one, but I always teach my students to respect the composers they get there material from.
Besides the opening, the video is great.
Hmmm....Your play is more like Swing rather than Blues...But the main idea in the song is the same...Very helpful video, thx a lot...
some sheet music whould be nice!!!
6:15
11:35
11:16 I am feeling hight man. 👍🏻☺️
How do you do the glissando?
I'd recommend using your thumb nail and practicing going lightly over the keys with it.
Vay be...
K
piano lesson as interesting as the song itself... i don't even play music..
What you're doing around 11:30 is not fair :)
would be great to play the song first so we know what we are going to learn :)
There‘s no Ab in E7. Should be G#.
thanks but you didn't teach the rhythms of it. I only learned the chords
amazing cheater
This is a great tutorial. However, the tutor obviously has no concept of how to teach, he is showing off how good he is, and not taking into account the various skill levels of his class, he should go on a training course on how to teach, a tutor should teach at a reasonable pace to allow students to absorb what they have just been shown or told. This tutorial is of no use to those of us who need a little more time to absorb.
Yeah, he go kinda fast on that one, he need to decomposed some move more slower
There's always a critic...
Don't like it sorry.
