- I am honored to be awarded the Vito Russo Award at this year’s @glaad Awards. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. This is for all of us.
My career has awarded me an incredible opportunity to reach and impact people’s lives in ways I could have never imagined. From a young age I was taught (by thriving and incredible women) to stand up for what’s right. And while I know I’ve made mistakes along my journey, I have yet to let any hiccup or fear hold me back from using my voice to be on the right side of history. At a time where politicians are attempting to erase our LGBTQIA+ community, our voices NEED to be heard. This year alone, we have faced 540 anti LGBTQIA+ state bills in this country - more than ever before. Many members of our community don’t have the privilege to stand up at this time, but many of us do. Use your voice in schools, grocery stores, communities - and most importantly at the capital halls in your state. Collectively we have so much strength.

This speech was amazing!! My sister is currently transitioning and these laws and the people that support them scare me so much. I've literally lost sleep over the fact that someone felt the need to burn an LGBTQIA+ flag one night on the steps of a church that she walks by on a near daily basis. Thank you for calling everyone to action because it's really needed right now. The only true way to fight hate is with love and acceptance❤and I'll never stop believing in that.

Congratulations, Jonathan, on your well deserved award! Thank you for being at the Capitol in Austin and speaking out against so many harmful bills. Your sun shiny self always brings so much light and helps renew my fight as we stand up for vulnerable Texans.
Please continue to remind those with less of a struggle that they have a responsibility to turn around and help pull others up the ladder. If more men (especially white men - it’s Texas) show up and speak up, we might be able to keep the Legislature in check.

I will be sharing this with them because this is the strong, positive message that we all need. You are such a strong flame in the darkness, shining a light with all others that burn bright with passion for lgbtqia+ rights
I hope things improve for them. I have found a much more accepting environment in homeschool if that's available to you.

Thank you for being a voice, a strength, an example and a role model to EVERYONE on what it means to follow your heart and stand up for equality and caring for everyone and their well being. You bring such joy to me and so many and have helped me to be proud of who I am and to not let my medical situations and disability stop me from living to the fullest I hope to someday be someone to help bring more support and love and acceptance and to be a positive role model as much as you are and have been and continue to be to me and for so many around the world. I love you Jonathan you have helped pull me out of a very deep depressing lost place with my chronic illness struggles and disability. I embrace my uniqueness and individuality as a cloak of strength and pride thanks to your beautiful example of how to be the sunlight despite the rainy days and thunderstorms you find the positive and joy throughout. My 16 year old identifies as nonbinary. My 14 year old identifies as gender fluid. I identify as bisexual. I just volunteered with Free Mom Hugs in OK and will be going to many more events. I hugged everyone, honey! From little ones, right up to some older folks too. We have to fight for these kids. I’m so happy to see you fighting in TX. OK needs to match your energy because I don’t think it is any better here. ❤❤
Wait, Free Mom Hugs is an official thing? I thought it was just something that some people just put on t-shirts and showed up at Pride events ready to model acceptance! 🤯💖🏳🌈🏳⚧
@A Z my kind? I would love for you to try to stop me. My kids are amazing people. Loving, kind, smart, funny. They will never need to be saved by you. In fact, if you can’t understand unconditional love, you would do well to stay away from all babies, children, and teens.
@@missnaomi613 it is! The founder is actually from OK. I’m outraged by the awful parents that choose to not love their children because of something they can’t choose. My kids were raised with open hearts and open minds and they KNOW they are loved unconditionally by their parents. Parents that choose to disown their kids or just flat out don’t accept them, should be arrested for neglect and child abuse. They do not deserve them.
@@shirleyward5887 I'm with you! 2 of my 3 kids are trans. My 25 year old is enby, and my 19 year old is recently out as a girl. When they were little, our family didn't even have the vocabulary for who they are, but I will always be their mama above all else. Meanwhile, I was thinking of having a t-shirt made saying "Free Mama Hugs" and going to Pride festivities for the first time. 🏳️🌈

Jonathan, my wife and I are so proud of you! We moved to Austin Texas also fleeing the homophobic discomfort we both felt and grew up with in South Florida.
We have already become so familiar with the protesting at the Texas Capital in an effort to keep our new home here in Texas beautiful weird and respectful of others for years to come. Hope to see you on the frontlines of free speech and human rights activism on behalf of all of our LGBTQIA+ families all over the states.

Hi sweet JVN,
You are truly a resilient ray of sunshine! I’m messaging you in hopes that you could send some words of wisdom and hope to my 15 year old trans, non- binary son. He just came out last July while he was inpatient after attempting suicide. In the past year, he has been in 3 inpatient, 4 partial hospitalization programs, 2 intensive outpatient programs and 1 residential placement. I’m so proud of him for being so brave and being his authentic self. I really just want to inspire him and support him along this journey. But it’s very difficult to instill in him a strong sense of self and freedom with the current climate of transphobia. A message from you would mean so much to him. Like you, he’s a creative and sensitive soul. He feels things very deeply and is clearly upset and confused with the hatred and homophobia of the evil propaganda plaguing state legislature. Bless you JVN! Keep spreading joy and awareness for the queer community! We need you and we see you!

I got goosebumps, Truly. I am a person that is scared to start dating again since my perfect date candidate is lgbtq+. Im scared of being part of a scam since I’m technically in the south. Going to gay bars doesn’t help since I “look straight”.

The last time I checked, a caring adult reading children age appropriate books while dressed fabulously does nothing but good. Who knows, maybe those kids will learn to love reading, maybe they will learn to love themselves just as they are, and maybe they will grow up to be kind and accepting adults? What would the world even look like!?
Here here on standing up for LGBTQIA rights and youth rights😊 my own school district has a transphobic superintendent who passed a policy to out Trans students. I am actively trying to fight against these transphobic policies. I am non binary individual so I hate these vilification of our community. 😢
And this transphobia is even happening in sw Washington state.😢
