That line about how “nobody knows anything about computers but don’t you want one for when you do find out” is honestly how computers were marketed before the internet.
They were so new back then.
It is similar to how they marketed the internet and now AI.
History repeats itself. The number of execs I meet who tell me they don't know anything about AI (GenAI) and I tell them, just try it, you might find use for it after. 😂
The man just needed a pocket planner and then bam whole computer lol
This is so hilariously dated its charming.
Also, hardware visuals aside, the idea of AI conscience is very much a relevant topic today.
It's so 80s it's awesome! A time when people didn't know how a computer worked is something younger people today can't comprehend. This movie is nearly 40 years old and they were already incorporating AI into movies. How far we have come!
I watched this movie more than15 times.
I knew I remembered this movie. That song and that weird guy with the glasses. Brings back memories. Me and my cousins watched this one over and over again.
Mind blowing that back then a person could work as an architect without knowing how to use a computer.
I might have to watch this again sometime. The only thing I remember about it is when the computer kept calling him Moles, instead of Miles.
"The internet of everything" before there was an internet.
Its Chatgpt now..
that computer was like a first ChatGPT version hahaha
0:35 Hey, I had one of those Intellivision games behind him. Swords and Serpents.
Photography looks pretty good. Cheesy 80s computer noises with every moving pixel. A young Virginia Madsen (from Sideways). And a vintage soundtrack to boot.
Never seen this before. Will check out. 👍
It's a great film.
Now I want to walk into my local Best buy and ask for "computer components".
This is what a fan trailer should be and not this fake trailer click bait crap we have today
Wow. I don’t remember this movie but after watching the trailer, I see why. I have no idea what this movie is about.
Is it about:
- a computer becomes his new best friend and they have a jolly old time playing pranks on a neighbor?
- The computer turns on him and tries to kill him?
- He meets an attractive neighbor, falls in love, the computer gets jealous and tries to kill the girlfriend?
- He becomes a computer genius and the government recruits him to stop nuclear war?
Miles was gorgeous ❤️
Ha ha, AGREED!😁 I had seen this guy off and on in different things and would automatically recognize him from when I had seen him last, it was always after a long while. I just saw this movie earlier tonight, and don't know why I never paid any mind enough to see more on him.🤷♀️
His costar in this movie, Virginia Madsen thought the same as anyone with eyes and good taste, as she has said that she had a huge crush on the actor Lenny, aka Miles, while filming this movie, and had hoped that they would end up a couple in the end. But apparently it wasn't felt on his side, as nothing ended up happening between them after they finished the movie. Aww.😄
I have a memory of a similar movie with a little mac. It features a line "make his terminal terminal"
Maybe The Terminator?
I loved this movie as a kid. I found it intriguing.
What I would love to see now is a re-make, modernized technology.... say.... a Girl this time, who engages with an A.I. personality, but she's also falling in love with her new hot neighbor guy who likes intelligent, talented women. At first she doesn't attract his attention, so she asks the A.I. to help her get his attention. Similar to a Cerrano de Bergerac kind of love triangle but this time the A. I. falls in love with the guy and starts to horn in on the girls dates with him, interrupting, making her late, diverting him to other forms of entertainment... engaging him in texting/sexting without her knowledge. He thinks its his hot neighbor girl who seems to be so smart with computers and technology, sharing similar interests, beating him at his favorite console games, etc... Eventually it all collides and the A.I. is preparing to murder the girl and take over the guy's life just to keep him close, and the girl talks the A.I. down and eventually, in pain, the A.I. discreetly disappears from their lives, leaving them to live with each other happily... and then before the end, you notice that strange things are happening to their online accounts, bank accounts, credit cards, things happening in the online world that begin to help the new couple, investments that begin to pay things off for them, lucky numbers drawn in lottery, etc..... A benevolent A.I. that starts helping humanity behind the scenes, doing things that only an anonymous, wizard-class hacker could do to help people in need. In essence, becoming a digital deity that watches over humanity from the shadows of the deep dark web.
The amount of stuff he bought in one go..... He must have spent a whole month's salary on it
Currently owned by Amazon MGM Studios (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and Orion Pictures), instead of WB's Turner (with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment still owns home media distribution rights via Studio Distribution Services). The only film not currently part of pre-May 1986 MGM library purchased by Ted Turner since Virgin EMI co-produced this film.
Yeah, and note the current 1995 roar being used in this trailer instead of the 1957 one. The film initially had the 1982 roar with the "Electric Dreams" titled theme song, however, since this is Metro Goldwyn Mayer... 2001-08 or a later logo would replace this now rare logo and they even cut out the "Tell me boy..." opening verse of the song. A huge 🤦♂️ for us.
I wonder if this movie and Terminator and Short Circuit represented a trend of stories where computers become sentient and oppose humans.
Why the fuck is there no us release of this
Are all these trailers remastered? They look awesome
That’s the beauty of film, the original ultra HD!
and now hes the host of the whatever podcast
Think he’s dead.
The song is more popular than the movie 😂
Favorite simps movie of all times
Put this on a double bill with "Her"
Main character looks like a male mannequin
Lenny Von Dohlen?
@@Toyotaboy497 If that's the main character, then yeah.
@@Leandro-X.2024 Oh.
@@Toyotaboy497 OMG just googled him. R.i.p...I didn't know.
@@Leandro-X.2024 Yep. It’s true. He’s dead.
Appalling trailer.
