40 years later this is no longer a fantasy. AI is now capable of having a conversation with you, composing music, making artwork, and writing poetry. This was one of my favorite movies in the 80s. It's one of my favorite movies today. It's amazing to watch as the concepts in this film have become a reality.
I watched this movie by accident. Didn't know anything about it and even tried finding something else better to watch but couldn't so I went back to this Electric dream and fell in love with it.
This was a cute, funny movie, perfectly cast and shot. Unfortunately, the lead actor, Lenny Van Dohlen, passed away two years ago. Thank you, Lenny, Roger and Gene, for all your fun and wisdom. Rest in peace.
The fact that this review is saved for posterity makes me so, so ridiculously happy. I love this movie, it's not even in print, and Ebert especially championed it forever. Thank you for this!
He said “even though you know a computer probably couldn’t do all that stuff.” 😮 What an incredible movie to watch in the current day with current technology.
I love this movie and it has been a favorite of mine since I saw it in theaters when i was a kid. Just wish that they would release the blu-ray here in the U.S.!!
This must have been an early cut of the movie as the voice of Edgar in the film I saw sounds more like it’s coming from a computer, which I like. This film really is a gem that wasn’t properly received or recognised by the mainstream public at the time, but is a cult classic and at least these two rated it well.
This is so interesting!! I adore Bud Cort’s performance as Edgar, and I do notice a difference in his lines here. I wonder what version of the movie they had here?
I'm surprised they loved it as much as they did. It lost money at the box office. To this day it's kind of hard to find. A search on Prime Video doesn't even bring up on option to rent or purchase it. One may assume from that that it's because it must have been really bad. But their review says otherwise.
I liked this movie when I was a kid but it really didn’t hold up that well imo. You can always tell when a director used to make music video’s because they are constantly panning and most shots are about movement. I think Electric Dreams is definitely creative and heartfelt at times, but without the creative musical interludes, it feels flat and doesn’t flow very well in hindsight.
There is an interview on YT with the director, and he emphases that he only know visual storytelling from his music video career. the power of Dialogue acting and sound as a narrative tool was new to him.
The movie was totally underrated.

I just downloaded it.... everything is IN print if you know where to look.
I loved Siskel & Ebert and I LOVED Electric Dreams!!
YAY! Me too, still 25+ years later.
That’s when Siskel and Ebert were kings!!!!
Fantastic 80's music throughout the film. Even the music for the end credits kicks ass.
One of my faves. I can play the Duel over and over.
I used to own this soundtrack and LOVED playing that over and over. Amazing stuff. Genius.

The worlds first alexa!!!

This might be one of the few modern day fairy tales of its time.
Fantastic upload
Never knew what this movie was about even though the title sounded familiar and I definitely heard the Boy George song!
Miss the boys!
I love this movie! I wanted to get the DVD for a long time but was not available in the US at when i looked online ... I wonder why ?

Thank you ❤️
its great to see how quaint and primitive the computer tech was this time.

I fell in love with Virginia Madsen in this movie...then she was never heard from again.
au contraire .... Watch her in Sideways (2004). She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
She was in candy man. Big horror movie
Huh? She's never stopped working, and had an Oscar nomination to boot.
She was in loads of movies and productions, but both the movie and her deserved far more acclaim at the time. But both are clearly doing fine now.
She’s made tons of stuff sadly the actor who played miles hasn’t.. I loved both of them
AI in 1984 fantastic 😊

Yeah, but Roger did write a screenplay!
Yeah but computers will never catch on Siskel.
Do you have the whole show to put up here?
