Shallow only for high range. Other than that, deeper. Deeper provides a greater tone quality which is incredibly evident in low range. If the only thing being considered is high range then go for the shallow. It creates an easier sort of air flow for high range.
Honestly I switched to a bobby shew lead and my tone became less warm but it's not bad, it's still a clear sound even on the low register, I just can't do pedal tones like I use to
Wait wtf the leaning back actually works I mostly just watch these vids cuz they’re funny but I just hit double C while doin that then played normally and only got up to double G
I’m just starting on trumpet, my main is trombone and my highest note on that is a triple A, my highest on trumpet is a double D, I prefer deeper because it’s more like a trombone but it’s truly preference, love the channel, keep it up!
I've been playing trumpet for 4 years ever since my 5 th grade year of middle and the high school band director asked me did i want to be in the high school band and im the assistant section leader and im going in my 5th year of band and im just in 7th grade but im getting better everday and i motivate myself to get better and when we have band class at school and in the band room after school for practice I always try to get louder and play better but i just motivate myself and just keep getting better
Depends on the model and player. Idk about 'terrible' BUT there are better options out there for lead playing, like the LynnZhorn: ruclips.net/video/dZlwLqhXJG8/видео.html
But what about if you want good tone with those notes...? Some of the most well known classical players (Wynton Marsalis, Maurice Andre, Adolph Herseth, etc...) all stand up with a much straighter and traditional posture. Even if you want to go with a much more modern trumpet players (Brandon Ridenour, Tine Thing Helseth, or Alison Balsom), they all still use the much straighter posture.
Hey, quick question. I originally. Played in the middle of my mouth then noticed it sounded better to the side. My teacher said I should try to play on the middle. I'm in a place where I could go either way. What should I do?
Screw your teacher. If you look to either side you'll see a hole. Go for the hole that feels right. Playing in the centre is counterproductive for a good many players.
Allen Vizzutti uses a mouthpiece that is even shallower than a Yamaha 14A4a and sounds amazing. Then you see people like Arturo Sandoval who can scream well above a double C on a Bach 3C. The truth is, there's no such thing as a "cheater" mouthpiece. It all comes down to what works for the player.
Shallow or Deep mouthpiece?! Comment down below!

deep
Deep because I don’t want to pay for a lead piece right now
Blaise Bowman deep works better for me because I put so much lip into the mouthpiece
Deep because I have giant lips
Deep as the ocean
shallow, not even a debate
shallow for jazz, deep for classical
Completely agree
you shouldn't have to change pieces at all. If you do it right, it works on any mouthpiece.
worn gold for jazz, clean silver for classical
@@nicscott8560 I know I can scream on my horn with just a 3c
I also use shallow for marching band
I use a 3c and a 3e, I like both

shallow mouthpiece!!
Great tip man, actually releases alot of chest tension and throat tension which creeps in in that extreme range. Thanks 🤙
I have a deep and shallow mouthpiece

shallow, it dont like it when people say shallow means worse tone, if if get a good mouthpiece for you you can get any tone you want
Shallow mouthpiece

I tried the posture trick, and it worked. Very cool
I saw a RUclips video that said the Bach strad is terrible for jazz and anything above a double g. Is this true?
Depends on the model and player. Idk about 'terrible' BUT there are better options out there for lead playing, like the LynnZhorn: ruclips.net/video/dZlwLqhXJG8/видео.html
Blaise Bowman thanks man
Thanks Blaise..... I concur.... :)
i like both. i use deep for concert season more.
Thanks for the upload 🤯
What trumpet are you using in this vid
The LynnZhorn!
Lmao I guess it is your favorite
there is more to playing the trumpet than playing a bunch of high notes.
Obviously, but that’s a main struggle alot of people have and want to do
Love your energy!
Shallow all the way. Keep up the good videos.
I like a compromise between the deep and the shallow. Not too deep but not too shallow either.
Deep. Maynard started on a Baratone horn.
Really depends on what I'm playing, whether I want darker, mellow, screaming. I have a favorite of course.
Shallow. The people saying they give you bad tone don't know how to use them correctly.
Shallow, if you want to play in upper register, deeper if rich sounds
I never tried a shallow mouthpiece so I guess I'll go with deep
shallow mouthpieces are dope bro
deep for the sound
Shallow 100%
Shallow
Amazing
Deep; very deep; I'm the baritone trumpet of the group
I found the survey entertaining.
I can't help the tension when trying to play higher.. when I try to relax it doesn't play consistent when going above a double g
Where/how did you learn to make these videos. You have some high level video content/skills
Good video!! You're back! Hyped for new video! AH!
Schilke 14a4a, anyone?
Ethanolol I use a Yamaha heavyweight 14a4a
I love my Schilke 5a4 :)
I use a shallow 3c in middle school i only had a 7c i recommend switching to a 3c once u get into highschool
Top kek
I’m stuck at a high g, but I have a big mouthpiece and I am getting an x piece and new trumpet.
shallow because the air is compressed better and goes in sharper
I believe you should play on what fits best to your lips. But, I prefer deep
shallowaf
shallow because you can play both high and low and u just feel like a bad ass if u have a lead shallow mouth peace i have 7 lead pieces
have to find the balance!
3c for concert
14a14a for Marching band
Deep
I love my Curry 2TF and have a great range on it, but the 2Z lets me scream a lot longer

Haha but they aren't lead players. This is ONLY for high notes, not other stuff. It's a simple shift bro. Don't try complicating things lol

I'm going to guess shallow
deeper. strictly because of more balance between low and high, better tone, and well hey i have bigger lips lol
I use a custom 6a4a with a v cup
Just subscribed ya boiiiii
Are you using the LynnZHorn and the X Piece?
Yes, in one clip I'm not using the XPiece (cleaning it). They're amazing.
Blaise Bowman Awesome! How good is the XPiece for marching and jazz band?
It's amazing in both. The more I use it, the more I like it :)
Again, I must agree...... :)
Is a 7c good?
Rocking a Bach 1 1/2 B
Shallow but not too far
Deep mouthpiece for everything 🦄
What if you been playing trumpet for 6 years
I have a 7c should I get a 3c?
Blake Steenrod Yes
No
Blake Steenrod Ya I meant no
Deep, I hate all of you using cheater pieces
you just pissed you cant play shallow mouthpieces
Its not cheating it's like have more comfortable shoes or shoes that fit what your doing
^true
A middle range cup is good Schiller 13 A4A......

my band teacher sas posture is for you to decide just keep your instrument upa adn back straight and experiment to whats comfy but he is WRONG
Deep. Shallow creates thinner tone
Che. Bldo
I like shallow mouthpieces
who is this guy
Deep, ya shallow mouthpiece users are cheating
Would you call Wayne Bergeron or Maynard cheater? No. That's nonsense bro 😂
shallow
You should sell cars
Shallow
shallow
Shallow
Shallow
Shallow
Just kidding deep is the way to goo
Koda Hoover go all the way
