    Gargraves is a great choice. My 24 x 32 layout with FOUR mainlines is all GG with a few Ross switches. I solder my feeder wires to Gargraves from the bottom. I place the wire in the web of the bottom of the rail and with a good AND hot iron flow solder into the web of the rail and wire. You can not see it from above and nothing will pull on it. Good luck and thanks for sharing.

    Still working my 19 year old, college student ass off, building my Lionel Postwar layout. Both of my grandfathers had it when they were young, and they've passed it all on to me. It's just a basic loop at the moment, with some switches giving me some sidings inside the loop, but it's mine, and it's coming along nicely.

    My brother's layout was using old hollow Lionel track and the noise was pretty bad. So bad that he switched to Fast Track afterwards which helped a lot but didn't eliminate the noise. I'm mostly still just messing around with N scale at the moment. I'd like to get my little layout all wired up and finished. I've just had life getting in the way far too often, plus getting sick last weekend when I was planning on doing some work. The universe is just conspiring against me getting ANYTHING done as far as hobbies. ☹ But it is what it is. There is a train show coming up here in the Plano, Tx area and he and I are planning to go to that. We may hit the first day but that's the day after the Weird Al Yankovic concert lol so I may have to sleep in and hit the show on Sunday. Although I don't want to miss out on any sweet deals on things I don't need but have to have.
    I'll bet it was a pretty difficult decision to make to partially tear down the layout. But as the upper loops didn't contain near as much scenery it doesn't adversely affect the overall "Feel" of the layout to change it. And I think that's important as it's just an evolution rather than a complete renovation.

    • @RBPTrains
      @RBPTrains  Год назад +1

      Hope you are feeling better! Evolution is a great way to put it. When I built the layout, the elevated sections were an afterthought. Now I can lay them out the way I originally wanted. Thanks for watching and hope you can get back to your hobbies soon!

    I installed homasote which is a paper product designed as a sound barrier on top of my 1/2 pine board. That cut the noise down on my trains running on my fast track quite significantly. You can get homasote at any lumber yard. Fast track is easier for me as I’m not very good at the intricate detailing aspect in model railroading. I’m still learning how to build building and practice my skills to get better.

    Great Video, i was wondering what smallest curve you were running one your layout was on the bottom section of your layout? You run a lot of larger articulated engines so I was a bit curious

      Great question! For the main table, I useO72 on the outside track and O60 on the inside reversing loop. All of the switches are O72. Thanks for watching!

    If you have switches I am always looking for them at not full price but I just bought tons of track at Greenberg

    Thank you for sharing this. It will be great for us to follow along. A very ambitious project you’re taking on. Wondering if the program you are using is more Mac friendly than SCARM.

      Not sure about Anyrail on Mac. Someone in the forum may know. Thanks for watching and we shall see what I have gotten myself into, haha!

    I’d love some fastrack I only have the John Deere diesel locomotive and collected 2 smaller steam locomotives and one had freight I barely got enough track to run all three

    Hey this David I need some FastTrack for my Train layout

    I think it will be great to upgrade the elevated level to Gargraves track. Unfortunately for me, I will not be able to do so. What did you do to lower the sound of trains running on Fastrack on your lower level? I have invested too much $ to switch to another type of track.

    Have you thought about having the upper and lower track connect in anyway?

      I thought about it, but it would require more space and rework. Going to keep the levels separate for now. Great idea though!
