Ok kids, that’s an enrichment, not a choke! The trans is a 5 speed, that’s a simple as can be, with one down an 4 up. The two petcocks are just a simple way of having a reserve, keep one closed till one side runs out, then turn in the other with about 20 miles left! I owned an Ace 100, exactly like that brand new in April 71, for the total, including new BellHelmet for $560!!! Of all the bikes my friends an I had, the Hodaka was the best trail bike!
You two remind me of my brother and I. We are in our 50's now, but back in the 70's we had similar build adventures, albeit not on such a big scale. My older brother is much more mechanically skilled and patient than I am, but I was always the darning "test pilot" once we got a bike or go cart or what ever running. Your videos are very informative and entertaining. Restoration of old bikes on any scale takes patience and you really seem to have it. Keep it up and enjoy your time together. Some day you will look back like my brother and I do and say "remember when we built the.........insert machine here" and laugh!
i love the fact that you show all the details on every bike. it also helps for me to know how fast my dirt bikes can go, you inspire me to try new things and to get my lazy but up and riding more. btw i ride an xr100r doing some crazy stuff. I have been watching your shannel only for about a week or two and i subscribed. but i will not brag for this shout out but i will kindly ask. P.S thanks for reading this comment and stay awesome.
I had one was a kid ....would live to have another ...excellent find. That's the Enduro, they also made a Super Rat and a Combat Wombat 125. This 100 also had two sprckets....you're running the 35 tooth for street...also had a 50 tooth that bolted on the 35 sprocket for dirt biking. Love this...so envious !!!
I just got a 1973 triumph TR5T Scrambler that's been sitting in a garage for 20+ years and is in rough shape. It needs the carb gone through, 2 new petcocks, and an air filter, and I should be able to start it. Do you have any tips or recommendations on where to find cheap vintage parts?
Xducer silencer on that Hodaka. They were supposed to be all that when they came out. They had some kind of reeds or something in them that you could change and supposedly tune. You took the center bolt out and they came apart and the reeds or whatever were like a thin disk with a hole in the center that fit over the bolt. In reality, they were kinda restrictive for larger bikes, but they were quiet.
one up 4 down...... ultimately they went with one down 4 up in 73 I think it was... The Hodaka Super rat..... the stripped down version of the ACE ruled the 100cc class at that point.... BTW.... you only turn on one gas cock...... leave the other closed for reserve.... I had a 73, loved it.....
I also had one back in 1972 ... I thot that they were called "Hodaka B+", but the "Ace" moniker does ring a bell. I totally stripped the bike, painted the frame black and put an expansion chamber on it ... it actually had a power-band after that. I would disassemble the engine and try to smooth-out all of the cylinder ports and clean up any carbon, too. Tried to make a Super-Rat out of it!
It should say fuel mix on gas cap. I think it is either 20:1 or 32:1 that is why it runs what appears to be rich. I had a Hodaka ace 100 and the slimmer tanked Super Rat.
That HODAKA CAN BE CLEANED UP GOOD OR TOTALLY RESTORED AND THESE BIKES ARE HIGHLY DESIRED COLLECTION BIKES!!! YOU PAID 250 OR 300 !!! THEY CAN FETCH FROM 2 GRAND UP TO 4 OR MORE IN PRISTINE CONDITION!!!!!
It was the spark arrester that came on the enduro/off-road models. These bikes were all over the place when I was a kid growing up in Oregon. Hodaka's, Pentons, and Huskies were very popular at the time. Penton/KTM was my favorite. I still have my 175 Penton.
Get real! Keep it. Better still, let the young bloke have it. Yeah Charlie seems to appreciate it, let him have it. But get rid of that funny looking thing hanging off the back of the exhaust pipe will you's.

Just realized you're in wisconsin. Awesome Bike I have and older Super Rat 100. Don't get rid of that bike.
All Hail...The Mighty Xducer!!
Way back in the day, my first "race bike" was an Ace 100 that I converted into a Super Rat. It served admirably until I sold it to buy a Husky... 😎
I also had one back in 1972 ... I thot that they were called "Hodaka B+", but the "Ace" moniker does ring a bell. 2vintage...if you still have the hodaka I would be interested in looking at it.

My buddy found a hodaka 175 his buddy's brother wants to sell and I'm looking at getting a bultaco with Honda cb350 motor in it
