After 4 weeks of holiday in Bello, Envigado, el Poblado, Medellin, I got out of Colombia. What place not all but many people are out to find ways to scam you out of as many pesos as possible. Tried the airbnb in 3 different locations one infested with cockroach the other was threaten by the host son in the next apt for complaining about the music at 3am 5-6 nights a week and the last was a total scam listed an address for a decent location apt. but was brought to a completely different address at the time of checking in. Not to mention being ripoff by almost all the taxi drivers and short changed by many vendors. Sept. 12, 2023 to mid Oct. 2023.
I'm going to cartagena as a solo male traveler in mid november and wanted to know if it's safe and if Uber is safe to use or are there a lot of drug cartels and I plan to just stay in the city
We used uber, but the drivers always had one of us sit in the front because it wasn't allowed at the time. Taxi companies are against it. Also, be mindful of your surroundings and don't get too drunk and let your guard down. We heard of women taking advantage of men that do that and could get you into trouble. Don't wear anything too fancy and draw attention. The main city inside the walls should be safer.
There are official taxi's and uber. But keep in mind that Uber was illegal when we were there, but it still worked. The driver sometimes asked one of us to sit up front so people couldn't tell he was an uber driver. If you talk to your hotel, they can point you in the right direction or even provide you with a taxi from the airport.
DEFINITELY learn to say no! Especially at the Beach with the vendors and the rappers and the massage women. At times it gets overbearing due to the fact that you just said no 5 seconds ago and another person approaches you to sell you something or offer a service. Other than that, have fun and enjoy yourself.
Not sure how it is right now, but I'd research recent events there to see how it's going. Just be street smart and don't wear anything flashy always. Avoid getting drunk or anything that can put you in a vulnerable state and you should be fine.
I'm not sure to be honest, sorry. Probably at one of the nice hotels. We're not familiar with how things are there now. Check online and look at reviews.
Great report, I leave in Cartagena, and those Rap singers are annoying, any way besides the wall city, up north are the best beaches and excellent hotels, Don t miss them next time
Because it is a question we got from a lot of people when we went. Also, from our personal experience in Cartagena and from the locals informing us to be careful because there were recent incidents. Versus other countries, this was probably where we felt least safe. That doesn't mean something will happen to you, but people should be aware and everyone should check the statistics of areas they are going to. Nothing wrong with that. Do you have references and anything you can share with everyone that shows we are out of date?
Nothing happened as we were always on alert and not being flashy. We also didn't go out drinking late at night as that's an easy way to make yourself a target. Follow recent crime news and always ask the place you're staying at for tips. They should be more than helpful.
Unfortunately, things are changing fast. I have been visiting regularly since 2003 and I own an airbnb there. Not only we have had problems with guys getting drugged and robbed by girls they met through Tinder, several of my guests have been robbed at gunpoint in the past few weeks. And sadly the autorities are not doing much about it. Even worse, the last group that was robbed managed to get the "find my iphone" location and gave it to the police. The policemen gave them some of the stuff they recovered but never the Iphone, which they suspected the policeme had kept. The next day it was switched on briefly next to the police station. Sad. but true. I'm not saying you don't go, but please be careful, it is not "super safe". And BTW, I am European and in my country, which has a similar population number to Colombia for every person they murdered in 2021 ....in Colombia they murdered 48. (290 homicides / 14.159 homicides) This is not an opinion just statistics available doing a simple search. It should be discussed more to see it the Colombians start acting against violence. Colombians lives should matter more. Homicide numbers in Iraq in 2021?... 1077
It wasn't the first Spanish colony, the island of Hispaniola, was the first, Isabella in the North Coast, Santo Domingo in the South,The Dominican Republic,if you are going to do a video get your facts straight
I loved living in Cartegena! I spent so much time in Getsemani as well, so this was such a blast from the past for me.

Oof. Sorry to hear you went through that. I bet it was a learning experience. It's sad that it's common there.
Yes a learning experience never to go back there not even for transiting @@realescape
You looking in the ghetto for places? Also use Uber and you won’t get ripped off😂
maybe learn to read before commenting, you showing how ignorant you are lol@@Whosurdaddy71
That place is super safe.
Have you been there recently? I'm guessing it fluctuates and hoping it's doing good. Beautiful place.

Be careful on dates. Watch your drinks. Go to Selina hostel and meet up with some other gringoes.
I’m flying from ny. Do i need the yellow fever vaccine before entering?
At the time of travel, we didn't need it. But you should check their government site to stay up to date.

Great tip! Learning that is a must.
That's why I hated Cartagena. Worst place I've ever visited. Will never go back.
I wanna go. Is it safe?

So,where do I stay if I’m
Traveling with children?

Uruguay.
the best beach resort is Princesa DEL MAR, we stayed there with our kids and it is beautiful and safe. The owner is American.
Great report, I leave in Cartagena, and those Rap singers are annoying, any way besides the wall city, up north are the best beaches and excellent hotels, Don t miss them next time
If we ever go again, we'll check them out next time!
Short answer NO!
Hopefully it comes around again. Not sure how it is now.
WHY??? Why do you title a video, "Is COLOMBIA Safe"??? This is 2023 and not 1993...move on!!! COLOMBIA is SUPER SAFE!!!

Day tourism is safe,it's running the streets at night, when you have to be smart
I'd agree with that advice.
