The original is fat and 3D in a way that defies the reality of it being an old plugin and even a plugin. It's extremely special and I've been obsessed with it for years.
I really appreciate your kind words! The bass chain was a music man stingray > APA Juggernaut Preamp > Buzz Audio Essence compressor. I used that same preamp/compressor chain on the vocals and acoustic. The mic for those was a Korby KAT with the 47 capsule.
This particular video was for those that were looking to replace the discontinued plug-in. I did shootout the Chandler hardware against plug-ins in this other video though: ruclips.net/video/HzHETIiZPTM/видео.htmlsi=kFWcIyzVVt1nIlYf
Hello Josh, thanks so much for making this video! I wanted to ask you what wrapper are you using in order to use the original plugin? I'm in a difficult place because I had the original plugin but once I installed it I didn't keep it. Now that I'm on pro tools 2018 it will no longer work. Is there any possibility I could pay you for a copy of the installer so I can use my plugin again? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks Josh.
Shoot me an email and I'll see if I can find the installer for you! The wrapper I used is 32 Lives by Sound Radix. It won't work on Mac OS Catalina or later though so just keep that in mind.
@@SeawellStudios Thanks Josh for being so helpful with my situation. Really appreciate it! I sent you an email with the address starting with reyesdan Thanks again. Looking forward to hearing from you when you get the time.
Thank you for this video. Could you suggest the smoothest compressor plugin available? I need something to give a saturation, dynamic control and sustain to my piano tracks. Something very organic and smooth. Thanks again!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! For piano, my favorite plug in compressors are the RS124, Apogee Opto-3a, Acustica El Rey & Kazrog True Dynamics. Demo those if you haven’t yet and see if one may be the sound you’re looking for 👍🏻
I am still on Mac OS Mojave so I prefer to use the Abbey Road EMI RS124 Plug in. If you’re on a later OS version & can’t use 32 bit plug ins then I think the Waves RS124 is the best option.
@@SeawellStudios After comparing vsts you suggested, I really loved True Dynamics by Kazrog. Their True Iron is amazing as well. It adds so much character and saturation to my pianos! Definitely two of the best plugs I've ever tried. Thank you so much for pointing me this company.
Thank You for the video. Well, I think I'm gonna buy Metaplugin and use the old plugin that I do have! The attack is so different as is the tone on the top end, much better on the original. I do have AR-1 and love it too. I have also the chandler RS-124 and
You're very welcome, thank you for checking it out! I hadn't used the original plug in for a year or so before I made this video but the more I'm using it now the more I remember how special it is. It's definitely worth the effort it takes to get it to work.
Could you do one of these against Kush's AR-1? I'd be curious how that stacks up. Not technically the same exact hardware but based on hardware that's based on the RS124.
I'll see if I can make that happen sometime soon. I have AR-1, Acustica Coffee and Cream and United Plug Ins Royal Compressor so I could add those all in the mix.
They are definitely close. For convenience I would have no problem moving forward with the Waves. Fingers crossed someone still brings back the original exactly as it was so we can have all 3 models. Thanks for checking out the video!
@@SeawellStudios Thanks for your video! since the waves altec came out I wanted to know the differences with the softube, but apparently no one has the softube one... They shouldn't have discontinued it
Seawell Studios Really enjoyed the video have the new waves RS124 plug-in. I have a strange question. I have only tried the plug-in on guitars - and guitar groups; both on single channels within a guitar group and the guitar group itself. I may have tried it on (Ableton 11) master channel. In some cases I've been very impressed. But a weird thing happens. The analogy I will use is early versions of Dolby; lol. You cut the treble and there was literally no audible difference between that and early Dolby. So, I put the RS124 on a guitar group today, fiddled with the controls to bring out "more grit" from the guitars, using super-fuse, this and that - whatever it is I tried. I dialed in one that sounded good, not amazing, 'good.' Something told me to then turn the plug in off and instead raise the volume on the guitar channel. Exact clone in sound. This has happened so much with so many compression plugins. I have very good ears and a professional setup; my monitors aren't the greatest but ADAM A7X, so pretty good...I had 3 other producers listen we could NOT tell a difference. (Between the 'grit' brought out by the compressor) and simply turning the volume on the guitar channel. Of course you can say, yeah but dude, it's done it's job leveled out the signal, it's compressed. But even with Super Fuse in, NO ONE could hear a tonal difference. Maybe it will be far more obvious on bass. Sorry this was so lengthy.
Electric Guitars are one of the few sources I don't use an RS124 style comp on. I usually go for LA3A style there. The RS124 can be really transparent with a slower than normal attack and release so I can see it not making much difference on a certain guitar parts. Vocals, bass and drums should be where you really hear it doing its thing. Try it out there and let me know what you think!
Which one do you guys like the best?

what I like about the softube is that it emulates the 3 altecs of abbey road, and that of waves only the 60070B
