- New year new scale right?
Well it’s about time I had a dabble in the “senior scale” as I’ve heard it called.
Dapol recently sent out some very tempting emails regarding sale offers on some of their O gauge locos & seeing as I’ve got bitten by the 08 bug I thought why not…
This 08 shunted arrived promptly undamaged in the post & after a visit to my local model shop some lovely second hand Peco track was purchased to start me off.
The detail is great on the model & the running on DC is smooth as butter straight from the box, so after running in it should be even better!
The only fly in the ointment is that the loco came sound fitted & so far I’m not getting any joy from it at all, that’s why the running shots are of the model running fitted with the supplied blanking plate.
I’ve been in touch with Dapol & they assure me that the loco was tested on both DC & DCC before dispatch, so I’ll have to run through the test track set up & get back to them regarding a possible return….
Added to the 08 I’ve picked up one of Accurascale’s 24.5t HOP24/HUO coal hopper wagons to start me off on what hopefully will be an enjoyable adventure into the new scale for me.
I’d love to hear any comments from you if you’ve recently gone down the same O gauge path…

This could get expensive, is there much of an O gauge scene where you are ?

Sadly I missed out on their recent sale, but eagerly awaiting the next bargain rummage as I used to have a Dapol 08 (impulse buy) then regrettably sold it to a friend, but would love another now for a small project I have in mind.
It’s my first O gauge loco & it’s impressive to me….ive been thinking of trying out O for a while, & this seemed to be too good to pass.
I loathed to send it back because the sound chip appears not to work. I’m in the process of trying out a regular 21 pin decoders to confirm it’s not my test track at fault…..we will see.

⚠️update!
We’re quite quick to moan on social media, so here’s a massive shout out to Dapol & their after sales service.
Sadly my recently purchased 08 had to be returned last Friday…..
Today (Wednesday) the loco was returned with a fully functional sound chip.
Fantastic service without any quibble!

Am just starting out in O myself. Hoping that 2nd radius curves will suffice so I can eventually construct an oval.

Currently there’s not enough room here for a loop…,but some sort of shunting layout is in my mind at the moment.
I’ve had to return the 08 today as the fitted sound chip just doesn’t work, which is a pity as I didn’t want to send it back incase it gets damaged. Il have to wait & see what Dapol say now.

@@colwichjunction3366 That's a shame. I notice DCC Supplies has plenty of videos of Dapol sound locos being fixed by them under warranty.
Interesting, I was told by Dapol that all their locos are tested before they’re sent out, not sure if this one was???
Everytime I’ve ever had to deal with Dapol’s after sales service, they have been brilliant. I don’t see why this time will be any different.
@@colwichjunction3366 I'm sure your 08 will be fine. I remember a time when Hornby's after sales service was excellent too.
How many parts did it arrive in originally? 😊
Ha! Ha!! Believe it or not it was complete, no bits missing….first time
A buffer had come off second time though 😁
