I was born in 1963, and I listened while my parents played Herb Albert albums. Such compelling melodies, with so much weighty space between notes. Cheers~
I’m also 60, and was weaned on Going Places and Whipped cream and other delights, by my parents and an uncle who played trumpet in the 1940’s. The musicianship is top notch… and Herb sold A+M for $450,000,000 and gave $250,000,000 away to charity. A great man!
This is soooo great. Thank you for posting. As a child of the 70s I was turned on to this music by my parents 8 tracks and records. I now own them and enjoy them even more at age 53. Their epic music sounds even better all these years later. Herb Alpert and TJB...long will they live.
In one of the photos, you can see Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass playing in the bullring that inspired the song The Lonely Bull. And in another photo you can see Mr. Alpert in Avenida Revolución in my hometown Tijuana in 1966.
The Lonely Bull was the first record I remeber my father playing on our 1962 Hi-Fi consule. I always wanted to play the trumpet, but went from recorder (grade six) to Clarinet (grade 8 - hand me down from brother) to Tenor Sax (grade 9 through 12). I even had a hight school Pep Band - all we plyed was Tiquana Brass music. My first international trip (from Canada) was to Mexico after college. I had the pleasure to meet Herb after a Vancouver Jazz Festival performance in the late 1990's - Thank you for your music!
Thanks!! Nothing was said about Herb’s unique tone. It was very “tight”. In the sixties, my trumpet teacher abhorred the way Herb held his elbows tight to his body and trumpet always pointing down. But I have come to realize that sound was part of the magic. Saw him (and the wondrous Lani Hall) last May live. It was amazing. Thank you for the insights shared here, and greetings from Canada.
This guy knew the music industry in and out - he wrote songs, he played instruments, he sang and went on the run a huge record company. Kind of worked his way to the top!

@@pedroballadares5253 Yes, but that does not make him Hispanic. I just find it amazing this is never mentioned. Neither was his band. It's funny how you can look one-way but be another. If I were Hispanic I would not mind people thinking he was the same, he was so good looking. Such a nice man, too.

Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass are just plain timeless!
Thats for sure,I still play my albums and they hold up today!
Why hasn’t there been a big budget Hollywood biopic about Herb Alpert? Great artist and a great story. Someone do that.

Really appreciate you mentioning that. Will definitely watch. I see it’s on Peacock. Can’t wait. Thanks!!

Herb Albert is not Mexican or even of Spanish descent. His parents were jewish, from Ukraine. He just looks like a very handsome man from Tijuana.
He was born on LA , east los Angeles, Boyle heights!😊

In 1966 he outsold the Beatles selling 13.2 Million albums .... your comment doesn't even count 😂
