Just a heads up for future reference. You said you were looking for 3/4 square 1080 and you should check out maritime knife supply. They have a couple choices of 1080 hex stock and while not exactly square it'd be easier to make square than forge welding a bunch together at least that's my opinion. Thanks for sharing your build it turned out great.

Considering that you decided on doing one of the oldest decorative damascus patterns and one with one of the highest failure rates, I would say that, despite the things you would change, you knocked it out of the park.

I know it doesn't look like the serpent core you were hoping for, but it does look like the dwarves worked some magic on a plank of old hickory wood & turned it into steel. It's a fine sword.

That sword is FILTHY!!! I can't say what I actually said during the sharpness tests but it started with "H. F. S. !!!!". That pattern looks like wood-grain to me, in certain points. Absolutely tough lookin'!
Btw, Julie, I like the saw blade art piece too. The waterfall and color blue choice is beautiful, honey.

As a smith who is just sick and tired of damascus and the requests for it, I have to say ... this is probably the sickest pattern I've ever seen. I've literally never liked a damascus pattern, but this one is fucking glorious.

Haha, 'Metric measurements are the tool of the devil'! So funny! I was born in the mid 1970s in the UK, and by the time I was at school, Metric was the way......However, metal and woodworking wasn't taught at school, I learned woodworking from my Dad, who was a child of the 1940s, so I learned feet and inches from him....And mountain navigation......I then learned navigation from the Army in Metric, so I work in a really confused mix of metric AND Imperial. Somewhere may well be 2 miles 300 Metres away......A car may be 9ft 16cm long. Works for me even if it doens't work for anyone else. Stunningly beautiful sword! Truly a piece of work to be proud of!

Great sword, you've done an amazing job with it. I like your attention to some historical accuracy as well. As a Canadian, I'm afraid I have to disagree with your opinion of the metric system. Base 10 fits everything we already do every day. There are 10 fingers and 10 toes. 10 pennies in a dime and 10 dimes to a dollar. Many of the things we do every day are base 10. Having a base 10 measuring system makes sense in the same way for the same reasons.

That is absolutely beautiful. For myself, I really like the wrought iron-esque pattern that the cable damascus provided; it's probably closer to what an actual viking-age sword would look like.
I also really appreciate how true you were to the source material - so many people take one look at the word viking and beeline straight for Assassin's Creed Valhalla or some other fantasy 'viking' garbage that bears no resemblance to the archeology.
    Stunning job.
