Just before everything, I bought it. And so did literally everyone in my guild raid, 36 people. Im not justifiying the price, its insane. But just some context. The mount is a reskin with some changes of a Mount that was only purchasable during the Battle for Azeroth expansion and was the only Mount that used that Dino Model but also the only mount that could access the Auction House everywhere. During that time, it costed 5 Million Gold. To put into perspective, right now, the Price exchange rate for the Gold to Money and reverse is by around 300k Gold in Europe for 20 Euro. Back then it was around 100k if I remember correctly. So to buy the predecessor, you would need to spend around 1000 Euro to buy it. You can only get it currently with extreme luck from the so called Black Market, wich sells rare items in an auction, of course prices there can go up several Millions, wich isnt Money any regular player has. The average Money a player has that activly plays is less then 1 Million to give perspective.
For me, this 90 Bucks was a steal in several ways. I used Gold to buy it, since you can buy everything in the Blizzard store with WoW Gold. But it was also STILL cheaper then the 5 Million Mount.
Is 90 Bucks to much? Yeah of course. 40 should be the maximum, since that would make it still more expensive then other mounts, but also "redeem" the fact that its currently the only Mount that has a Auction House AND a Mail NPC. I know that its still an insane amount of Money for a Mount, but that was more in comparison to other Blizzard Pricing, since most Mounts cost around 20 Euro since they started selling them
So yeah not sure if W or L but the people definitly wanted it. For their public image, yeah its terrible, but hating blizz is so common these days that they probably stopped caring, since they can do nothing to improve it.

I started playing FF14 on October 1st, 2024 and I’m 150 hours in. I have to say my favorite part of the game is no real money store in the game. It’s located in a separate website. Having a store located in the game kills immersion and dedication of actually obtaining things through your own effort in a game.
Also I’m a single player only gamer who played 22 FF games with the platinum trophy in preparation of FF14. I appreciate FF14 because the game is designed so that someone like me can play the entire MSQ solo. I’m a PS player because I also love my physical game media. Always buy my games physically. That’s why I’ll never be playing on PC as I’ve been playing PS for the last 25 years.

I think it's worth pointing out that this isn't Only a skin. The mount gives you access to things like the auction house, which was previously only accessible at set capital city locations or through a now removed mount (unless you buy it through the black market auction house, which lists random items for uncapped bidding), so I'm assuming a lot of people buy it in order to gain access to a feature they'd otherwise have to travel for.
Thus this isn't just a cosmetic, but a feature disguised and marketed as a cosmetic mount, which in my opinion is far worse than "just" yet another expensive skin.

Yeah I was confused why he kept calling it a skin or a mount, that's not the point of it at all. I guess he didn't look into it at all. It's a QoL/time saver item for players to access AH/mail from anywhere. If it was just a skin, it wouldn't be nearly as popular.

It's not just a skin. The mount got an npc on it that give you access to the in-game auction house everywhere you go. Which is very useful and very sought after. An identical mount (in a different color) can be bought in-game for 10 million gold. The real money price takes shorter time to farm in real life than the gold takes to farm in-game. Buying 10 mil gold for real money is over 700 dollar and you can spend more than a week farming the gold in-game.

You can only find the auction house in certain cities. Only the Old, no longer purchasable (was also 5million gold to buy so not easy for most people to get.) If I was still playing WoW, I would probably have gotten that. For me, it's a collectable. Having lots of mounts brought me joy at the time. I even had 2 rare and extremely expensive mounts from the original Warcraft TCG that I bought for way too much money.
If people want to say it's stupid to spend money on digital collectables because they aren't permanent, then I'd say its stupid to spend money to go to a concert, see a movie, or go to a sporting event. They aren't permanent either. But you might say: digital goods can be taken away from you. I'd say: so can physical; it's called getting robbed, having a fire, or your partner getting pissed and breaking your shit. Even if none of that happens, you're gonna die at some point and lose it all anyway.
But I won't actually say all that, because its not stupid to spend your money on things that make you happy as long as you're doing it responsibly.

I totally understand the sentiment of voting with your wallet. But the problem is, there are just so, so many people not doing that, that doing it yourself becomes meaningless. There are so few people not buying that it has no effect on the publisher, so they aren't lowering their prices. I tried that approach with Genshin, because their skins are way too expensive in my opinion. But people, including my irl friends, bought the skins en masse when they became a thing, and with that the price was set in stone. Now, if I want a skin, I buy it because they won't ever get cheaper.
Edit: The problem why "voting with your wallet" doesn't really work is because people WANT to have whatever it is that's being sold. That's just how demand and pricing works in business. It's very easy to vote with your wallet, when you didn't want the product in the first place. And that's why we are seeing so many big budget titles just not being bought by gamers anymore and gamers actually expressing schadenfreude about it instead of lamenting that they didn't buy the special edition: they have no interest in the product itself anymore. Then voting with your wallet becomes easy.

My issue isn't with the mount itself, it's the fact that they ship this and a glitchy, almost souless mess of a patch that's supposed to "celebrate" the 20th anniversary of WoW. It's supposed to be a HUGE milestone for the game and they just made it into another chore check list that's opaque on all of the ways to get the currency for the in-game stuff.
If they put more time and effort into the in-game content like they do their cash-grab products, I'd be less disappointed.

This has been the new norm for quite a while, for over a decade at least in wow, predatory practices were being implemented and the fanbase did not fight back with their wallet. Enough people enjoyed paying for these cosmetic skins that it became normal. We had it good at the beginning of gaming but it has turned into just money grubbing executives trying to squeeze their base for as much as they are willing to give up.
I am certain there were surveys sent out to people over the years asking how much were they willing to pay for having a portable auction house and mailbox ,and once that value proposition reached a point where they knew they could make the most profit they put this out and include FOMO practices to get parents to buy this around the holidays. We just have to accept that this is how the new generation of gamers have come to expect their experience to be. That along with not owning your games is how the future of gaming will be. If you don't like it you could just not spend money on these cosmetics but the comment section is wrong for judging people spending their money on what they want to spend it on, a hobby is a hobby.

the thing that most people not realize about wow is that IT IS about flexing on other people and that's why this thing works in that game. i stopped playing wow about 10 years ago but even back then, people would be flexing mounts in capital cities. back then it was about "oh i got this super rare mount that has like a 0.01% drop rate on a once week 25-man raid", but honestly, flexing is flexing, whether it be in-game luck or real life financial capability. i suppose having a 90 USD bronto is just showing people inside the game you have fuck-around money.

Spending more money than a AAA game on a F2P game is fair imo. It depends on how you approach it.
If I have a F2P game, my rule is: anywhere between 20-40€ per 100h of fun. If I like the game, and I spent over 100h playing on their servers, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to spend that money. But the pricing still needs to be reasonable. If you ask 40-60€ for a mere skin, even if I played 300h of it, it still needs to make sense.

On the surface, from the perspective of someone who doesn’t play WoW, this might seem outrageous and easy to be angry about. Spending $90 for an old model with a few pieces of armor and some added utilities might seem incomprehensible. It’s hard to empathize with the excitement. The advantage of having the auction house mount in WoW is enormous. It allows players to access the auction house anywhere, rather than only in major cities. Players who didn't have 5 million gold seven years ago couldn't obtain this mount with the auction house feature. For seven years, players could only look at this mount with envy from afar. Now, for WoW's 20th anniversary, this mount is available for about one-fifth of the original price, and it even comes with better specs (with an added mailbox).

The difference between a warhammer figure and this mount is that this is a digital product. They don't need resources to create each one. They create it once and then copy/paste it. Also, when the game costs $60 and then a mount that is only a miniscule portion of the game costs $90. The value feels off.

Both MMO(mostly a casual)and Singleplayer gamer here so I do get the ppl who bought the mount and tbf its a much better investment rather than buying a fking 70$ cinematic western POS game where once I finish the game , the game rots in the corner of my hard disk with 0 FKING REPLAY VALUE.
But also see the stupidity for skins in some of these games.
Get ppl spending money on skins for games like PUBG / Fortnite / any Third person view so u can actually appreciate the skin u bought while u explore the map.
But what about skins in these moba/fps competitive games where u are playing it so hard and fast that u are bound to miss / unable to pay attention to the skin u bought in 3rd person MOBA
But ppl spending money for skins on a fking FPS games WHERE U CANT EVEN SEE UR OWN SKIN is just baffling lol & this is like the standard in all of western games which are mostly FOMO competitive when it comes to online games rather than casual ones.
And most of these MOBA players /Sports gamers / FPS guys mostly play that one game and a couple of side games at best so it's not like they are like other gamers who play many others alongside it so u really can't call their reasoning as excuses cause that is all they play and it's their money after all so Dont care much since these casuals arent the target audience for these skins or mounts but the whales are.
And casuals are like a bunch of locusts anyway who keep jumping from game to game whenever a new shiny thing comes out so cant blame the publishers for catering to the whales who actually stick around and play the game day in&out
Rather than to a bunch of whiny'pussies who love to b1sh on things they arent even fking playing at the moment.

Hey WoW player here. So first things first. price tag? Unreasonable no arguments there. No mount should ever be the price of a full game.
however just wanted to correct you on 1 thing. Saying everyone who bought the mount spent $90 is wrong. Know lots of people who farmed for it.
Basically in WoW nowadays you can buy gold through the wow token. you spend real money and get something like 300k gold in game. This however also works the other way around. You can buy these tokens in the AH for in game gold and get rewarded something like 8$ in the blizz store. So if you have a few million gold to spare you can actually buy this for in game gold like a lot of my guild mates did.
The mount is in high demand cause its not just a skin, it comes with a mailbox and an auction house. I really don;t mind the shop...but the price tag did not go down well with me. Too high.
I do in fact have enough gold in game to buy it but skipped it. not worth it
