    As a Brit living in southern Spain, just a 20 minute drive from Gibraltar, I've visited Gib many times since moving here and it's easily my favourite local place 🇬🇧🇬🇮

    I love Gibraltar 🇬🇮 ❤ I'll be spending new year there this year, absolutely buzzing about it, haven't been there for 2 years because of covid.

    That main cave being used as an auxillery hospital must have been haunting. Imagine leastening to the cries and moans of injuried and operated-on men echoing though the room

      That's actually how they discovered Lower St Michael's Cave. They needed to get people in and out horizontally If they were disabled (can't climb steps obviously) so they dug out of the rock horizontally and the floor just collapsed where they probably used explosives. But Gibraltar wasn't attacked on land during the war so it never saw use as such.

    Thank you Forces News . Hannah King for these 3 amazing historical video's of British Gibraltar . Thank you as well to former gunner , Peter Jackson , the guide , and the mentioning of volunteers that restored the Gun , and former 73 year old Alfie from the then Gibraltar Regiment , today the " Royal Gibraltar Regiment " who was the last man to fire the Gun back in 1972 .

    Love that place. I love seeing old diesels and generators in Museums, but seeing them in place, untouched, and ready to go, in the caves under the big gun, added a whole new dimension to it.

    • @feanorian21maglor38
      @feanorian21maglor38 2 года назад

      @@arvalb0 There are a few ways that are open. You can find the entrance to tunnels if you take a walk through the Northern Defences- locally called "the Jungle" where you'll find the Prince's Lines, Queen's Lines and King's Lines. Local people can point you in the direction of the Jungle, above Landport, and you'll find tunnels during your explorations.

      @@feanorian21maglor38 are there tunnels long in or only small?

    • @feanorian21maglor38
      @feanorian21maglor38 2 года назад +1

      @@arvalb0 They're reasonable, not particularly short, although some gates are locked by the authorities where you could have kept going if they'd been open. Quite a few miles of tunnels are closed, but there's quite enough to keep you interested. It's an odd mixture in the Northern Defences as they are 18th Century tunnels, but you see glimpses through gates and openings into more obviously modern ones leading off. These tunnels are fun to explore on your own, (remember they're unlit) and you can also get a guided tour of the WW2 tunnels which usually starts at Hay's Level. For a journey-to -the-centre-of-the-earth experience, though, arrange for a private guided tour to lower St Michael's Cave. Hope you make it! Have fun!

    I was on Gibraltar1975 maybe 1976 I saw some of the guns that were still there and the underground tunnels I wish I had more time to explore all that but I remember looking in a doorway to a cave and being able to see light on the other side of the mountain. I had my picture taken up next to one of the guns it was a 5-inch gun but my ex-girlfriend stole it from me.

    Lots of jingoism and false bravado. Also we don't have secrets-we have to play by the rules and show the world everything.
