  • Make this Sim Racing dashboard which can display shift lights, speed, gear indicator, lap times, current lap and more in game data. By using a TM1638, a Arduino Nano and free SIMHUB software you can make this compact display.
    Supported games include.
    Assetto Corsa
    IRacing
    ProjectCars/ProjectCars2
    Codemasters games (Dirt 2,Dirt 3, Dirt Rally, F1 20XX)
    Euro Truck Simulator 2 / American Truck simulator
    RRE
    Rfactor1
    Automobilista (using Rfactor1 plugin)
    Rfactor2
    LFS
    RBR
    GTR1
    GT Legends
    GTR2 / Race
    Race07
    War thunder

    Display also shows, best lap times, Low fuel warning, Tyre pressure.
    It will show a digital clock when first on and not in game play.
    The switches control display brightness and scroll through modes. These can easily be rewired from the back. For now have added a rear switch to control brightness.
    SimHub must be running for the display to work.

    I think your videos are unique... they are short and to the point... there is no detail explanation but they give you a clear picture or an idea what to do.... just brilliant ! keep them coming.
    People like me who can't afford quality sim racing peripherals will definitely benefit from these kind of videos.

  • @sethfrancissimracing7558
    @sethfrancissimracing7558 7 лет назад +1

    Hey man, awesome project. Could you please tell me where you got that particular tinted acrylic/plastic and what exactly it is called? I have bought a couple different variations off ebay to use with my current gear indicator however they all have a brown tint rather than the blueish color of the one you are using. I would love to find out exactly what kind of tinted acrylic/plastic that is so I can purchase some myself.
    Thank you very much for the project btw, I have wanted to do a custom HUD like this using one of my Arduino boards but never got around to it. Now that you have simplified everything I will be revisiting this project. My goal will be to install some segmented sections and individual LEDS into a custom button plate using an Arduino Nano.

    • @amstudioprojects
      @amstudioprojects  7 лет назад +2

      Hey Seth, the HUD sounds like a good project, I'd like to add more displays and customize it further also. I used tinted perspex, also called plexiglass which I purchased from the electronics shop. It looks blueish on the video but is more a smoke/grey color. Search for - Grey Perspex - 195 x 195 x 3mm.

    Are there like...Different displays you can have on the screen? I'm probably going to make this (it will cost me £15) but I'm not a huge fan of that layout. Eventually I would like a proper one that this guy makes with an LCD screen, but the Nextion screen he uses is kinda hard to get (have to order it from over seas) in the UK and it's expensive, so I might just make this instead for now.

    very interesting. i had not really looked into how much support there was on the software side for this. guess this will my next project since having gear/speed/revs right on the the wheel would be very nice. i'll see if i can get away with using my current components, but if not, i'll just order the module. i had wanted to build the shifter and ebrake first, but the paddles/button seem to do fine for my use case so i might skip those and build this instead.

      amstudio 1 Last question, at 1:20 in the video, you point at the 5 "ports" that we have to use, the other 5 are not needed. In total 10 ports. I found a TM1638 that looks the same only difference is that it has only 5 ports, but they have the same names, vcc, grd, stb, clk and dio, and it's the half of the price, that should work aswell right?

      You can use that grey cable. Cut it to suit or plug in and trace the wires to each pin. I just used colored wires so it would be easier to see for the vid and so the front plate would fit on nice and neat.

    Hello Sir!
    Thanks for the video, it was really helpfull. Received the parts yesterday, built it today, with a few modification (I didn't solder on the PCB/parts as you did, too afraid). I took some tiny power cables of old PCs, wich plugged perfectly.
    Nox, I just have to bluid a box to put it in.
    One more time, thanks again!

    • @ShiraanVII
      @ShiraanVII 7 лет назад

      By the way, SimHub is at 5.3.1 BETA at the moment, so, as you say in the description, we gotta take the parameters you enter @4.22 in this video, and enter them like you do for the Tacho Vid', in the Hardware Setting/Open Arduino Tool/Sketch Setup.
      Then, it works perfectly fine on Project Cars, gonna try it with Assetto.
      One more question: will you authorise me to do a video and talk about that on a forum (of course, you got all the credits, as the site, the links will stay the same), but, in French (I am french, and some of my friend would like tto do the same, but english isn't their cup of tea)?!

    I love your video! I always wondering.....how do you mount that display dashboard under the monitor? I always want to try it out. Thanks!

    I will try to do this for the ETS2 as well as the Button Box. The bad that I live in Brazil and buy the parts and difficult to find and imported takes time to arrive.

    what do you use for carbon fibre wrap for these builds?

    I am looking to build this for my DIY Racing Sim setup, what type of Plexiglass were you using and what thickness? Also where do you get your Carbon Fiber Vinyl decals from?

      Used 3mm grey tinted plexiglass. Carbon fiber vinyl from ebay. Search for - 3D Carbon Fiber Vinyl .

    a few months ago i posted a question about how i have made this but can someone please tell me why my dash display keeps cutting over to different read outs ?? all i want is to permantly display speed current gear with the shift lights. is this done in sim hub, do i need to remove screens or something like that. Any help will be greatly appreciated. TIA

    I finished up my build (exact as your just havent done the pretty stuff yet) and I am running into the problem that the Sim Hub software is not connecting to my games. Any solutions? I own both F1 2016 and Pcars both are not syncing with the sim hub. My 1638 LED screen is only showing the time.

    • @amstudioprojects
      @amstudioprojects  7 лет назад +2

      If the time is showing that means simhub and wiring to the arduino + tm1638 is correct. It will be between simhub and the game. Id suggest checking game paths.

    Is there a display such as this one without the shift lights? like the shift lights in your other video better, but like the look of this display. =]

    Would this dash display also work on Xbox One? Or do you need different software for that?

    Hey amstudio, I have been watching your tutorials multiple times for a while. First I'll want to thank you for spending so much time and effort for these videos. I already ordered the parts for this one. But I would want to combine this one with the RGB LEDs from your other video. Is this possible with just one Arduino Nano? And is this possible without having and experience in coding? I hope to hear back from you. Thanks
