Nice work however it's not 100% accurate as the first statement is incomplete. Here is the accurate info. "According to U.S. Code Classification Table 2714, if you are convicted of a drug-related felony or certain drug-related misdemeanors, you are ineligible to get a passport during the time you are incarcerated as well as during your court-mandated probation period, and can even have an extant passport taken away". With that even being convicted of a drug related felony you certainly can get a Passport. I have a Sales Of Cocaine, Manslaughter Conviction and upon finishing my prison time I applied and got my Passport.

I served over 12 years prison time for non violent offenses, I never had drug charges nor any 1st degree charges or gun cases, I completed probation of 3 years and I do not own children thank god. My partner has a felony that is over 10 years old and was "drug related" but it was only possession of psychedelic mushrooms (it was a nearly empty bag so nothing like distribution or intent). It's something people have told us he could likely have exsponged but we aren't sure where to start. We both love travel and really want to take our kids to see the world, it's been really depressing not being sure if we're permanently State bound or not 🙁

20 years ago is quite a long time ago. I personally feel that they should have the opportunity to get one. This is something that should be looked at on an individual basis. I would look and see if there were any further criminal convictions since.

If You owe back Federal income taxes totaling 50k or less You won’t have an issue obtaining a Passport. Anything more than 50k and You can still get a Passport if You have already entered into a payment plan with the IRS and are current on it. Sadly though with child support, your Passport is usually revoked and/or You are declared ineligible for a Passport if your arrears totals 2500.00 or more. Talk about a sad and unjust reality where You lose your ability to carry a Passport for being behind only 2500 in child support whereas no issues getting one if You owe taxes to the Fed less than 50k…SMH

I got letters in the mail to appear to court but when I called they claimed my case might’ve gotten mixed up with another individual, or so I thought!! Turns out because I’m 100% Ebony Melanin and the kid is Caucasian they thought it was a mix up. So I never went to court. Welp, they declared the child legally mines. 12 years later I’m arrested for failure to pay CS. I owe $80k 😂😂😂. So after I add the baking soda what I need to do next?

I actually thought going to one of the local clubs and getting volunteers to submit to testing to see if they knew what their bac might be...but the idea slipped through the cracks. §2714. Denial of passports to certain convicted drug traffickers
(a) Ineligibility for passport
(1) In general
A passport may not be issued to an individual who is convicted of an offense described in subsection (b) of this section during the period described in subsection (c) of this section if the individual used a passport or otherwise crossed an international border in committing the offense.
(2) Passport revocation
The Secretary of State shall revoke a passport previously issued to an individual who is ineligible to receive a passport under paragraph (1).
(b) Drug law offenses
(1) Felonies
Subsection (a) of this section applies with respect to any individual convicted of a Federal drug offense, or a State drug offense, if the offense is a felony.
(2) Certain misdemeanors
Subsection (a) of this section also applies with respect to an individual convicted of a Federal drug offense, or a State drug offense, if the offense is 1 misdemeanor, but only if the Secretary of State determines that subsection (a) of this section should apply with respect to that individual on account of that offense. This paragraph does not apply to an individual's first conviction for a misdemeanor which involves only possession of a controlled substance.
(c) Period of ineligibility
Subsection (a) of this section applies during the period that the individual-
(1) is imprisoned, or is legally required to be imprisoned, as the result of the conviction for the offense described in subsection (b) of this section; or
(2) is on parole or other supervised release after having been imprisoned as the result of that conviction.

seeing as i have a passport and have a drug felony conviction which i was released in 2010 without papers and still travel all over the globe doing workaways i think id know :) hope this clears it up for mislead viewers :) as long as it wasn't international drug trafficking and you are no longer on papers or in jail you have every right to a passport as a form of global Identification and no there isn't a group of people that can just deny you unless you have a reason stated in legal federal codes they cant deny you just because they want to, and just cause this dude wore a badge doesnt mean he knows law it means he took a month long police academy course and passed. as it shows seeing as i have more knowledge on this subject with only working in a law library 9 years ago in a prison as an inmate. lol
