Great video! I'm a new board gamer and just purchased this. I've enjoyed Friday and have seen lots of people talking about this game. This video was very helpful!
Thanks for the breakdown. I received this as a gift and was a bit confused until I watched your video. Still a little confused, but I’m sorted enough to start playing, at least!
I’m pretty sure you can explore on any turn. If you only have two doors in the dungeon, open or not, you can explore to fill out the dungeon back to 4 doors.
Ok, this is crazy. I bought Elder Sign and One Deck Dungeon together, not knowing this video. They came in the same box, and I've got both in front of me, and I started watching this video and nearly died.
Mine came with heart shaped tokens. I wish it came with the regular cubes. The hearts look nice aesthetically, but the cubes are easier to see the exact count right away compared to heart shapes and take up less room.
One thing I have a problem with are the trap cards. You can only use one color of die but when you get down to floor three you need to cover 3 challenge boxes and do the encounter
at 15:30ish, you encountered a peril and rolled a 14. However, you didnt pay the 2 shield from the dungeon (dragon cove) card. Was that an error or did i misinterpret the rules?
@@SmallRobotPainting Just trying to learn this game, and alas, this error caused a skip of the very thing I am looking for! Since there is no symbol/color behind the 2 for peril on the dungeon card, does that mean we can play ANY die of two or more there?
Hi, I have been playing this game since it came out as well as FoS and had been adding the black dice accumulatively ie: by Level 4 I had 4 black dice however, having watched so many videos with different interpretations of the rules, I have come up with the conclusion that the black dice are not accumulated ! So, by Level 4 you end up with 2 black dice. The rule book is very badly written. BTW: Another problem ( if you get Forest of Shadows ) is the Exile die/dice. Apparently, you do not exile your dice but the ones from the box ! Good luck and kind regards.
for the boss card, so for level 1 it says all peril is a shield, all combat has a shield and spend 5 time instead of 2 to explore. that's only once? confused because it says "all peril" and "call combat"
playing a warrior and upon taking a wound. You store a black dice up to two for each wound suffered. Next round upon using the one dice as your heroic feat. Do you loose that black dice after using it ? Or does it stay with you as part of your heroic feat continually?
if you are trying to cover a square on an enemy or trap and you dont meet the requirements, you get penalised in what ever way the box states.. health, time or both normally.
I'm sightly less confused after watching this than I was after reading the useless instruction manual. Still not clear on what I'm supposed to do after flipping a door card and onward. Plague Rat wins I guess.
One Deck Dungeon comes in a standard card and a plastic card versions. The plastic card version is more durable and double the price. Asmadi is releasing a new version (1.5) of this game which is why there is a shortage. The game designer has updated the terminology and rebalanced the game. A stand alone sequel is currently being funded. The price is reasonable if you like crowdfunding projects. It has funded and is working on stretch goals. The new version, sequel and upgrade packs (for this version) are scheduled to ship to backers in September 2017. It will probably hit stores soon after that.
The reason I'm using the video is because I can't understand the rules in the box. I'm really new to solo boardgames and anything more complicated than monopoly! :D
Had a few play throughs, reading the rules and watching a few videos. Think I get the hang of it now. Made it to the Dragon in the first dungeon but died in the first round. Very enjoyable.
I play mainly solo games and I have about 15 games I can play solo, some terribly complicated (like Pathfinder ACG) and some simple (like Friday). My strategy to learn is set up per the rules and play best I can, while knowing I'm messing up a few things. Refer to the rules when I need to. Then when I finish the game (win or lose) I set up and play again. The second time you'll be able to play while ignoring some of the rules and still look up those that are fuzzy. After about 3 or 4 plays, I sit down and thoroughly read the rules and hit all the small things I'm doing wrong (which is inevitable). Then I have a big game where I try to do everything by-the-book. For the most part take the first few plays light and don't beat yourself up over messing up a rule or getting clobbered. I had a friend recently bring a FFG card game over to game night and said "I haven't played it, I figured we could learn as we played." I said "only if you plan on spending the next 4 hours in the corner reading the rulebook!" These type of games require time and dedication. Hope you find a passion for these games like I did. It sure beats putting together puzzles or playing Klondike solitaire! :D
@@sentino68 Main thing they are pushing is modesty, which I for one am grateful for. If I wanted porn id buy it, which I don't. When I buy a game I want a game not a game with soft core porn. The ladies are appropriately dressed for a fight not a pin up calander 👍 With that being said I wish they still had male characters as well. My young girls will definitely be drawn to it. My son's hmm hopefully seeing Dad play it will be enough of a pull.
Good video, soothing voice and accent and no silly background music. Helped me hop off the fence and buy this

pbelardo glad you enjoyed it.. check out roll player as well.. good fun and a kickstarter starting soon.. (mid 2017)
Thanks! This video helped a ton with getting how the game turns actually work. Lots of mechanics in a small box!

Great review. I wasn't sure reading the rules but this overview has filled me with confidence
glad it helped ;)

I thought so too
Great vid with a really clear explanation of how to play, thanks!
Super helpful, thanks for the video.
You beat me to it. ;)
I love this game I've played this again and again but only against the dragon for now.

Nice video helped me clarify a couple of things. Question - can i use both skills I've obtained in a ecounter for example if I'm level two????
You can use any or none of your skills once per encounter round.
If you take a potion as loot you automatically get a potion token.
Wow! I missed that!!! will add annotate now!
:)
A Bristolian reviewer! I'm so proud!
hehe.. aye.
I don`t fully understand the dungeron boxes numbers, do you also spemd dice on them, or not?
great tutorial, thanks!

David McAllister yeah, that was an error.. I put some text on screen to highlight it.. the dungeon card seems to get overlooked at times 🙄

very clever and portable little game!
Subscribed. Very good and informative video.
If you reach level 3 do you get 1 black die total because it says 1? Or do you get 2, one for level 2 one for level 3?

“Lose” not “loose”... basic grammar school stuff man.
you knew what he meant, didn't you? then language worked exactly as intended. be nice! you do lose the black dice after using them btw.

Yes u r right. Still... pretty sad.
How many heroic dice can I create in a turn?
And can I create heroic dice in peril encounters? Thanks for your help!! ✌🏼😁
I don't understand why the boss fight when I let you use your main Skill?!
I wish there was more forest of shadows let's plays.
i dont know why you arent more popular. very funny. well edited.
Thanks for this video. Awesome introduction!
Can anyone link the "One Player" Facebook group? I can't find it...
Handy Bagel in the video show notes!
I might just buy the game for the beautiful dice.
Mehmet Akharman if you like lots of coloured dice take a look at pandemic : the cure. 😀
Do you still like this game? Will you buy the expansion?
Hi, yeah, the game still comes out. Roll players kind of stole this games thunder a bit. I am a backer for the new version and expansion.. :D
Our LGS has been out of this game and I am interested in it. Is there a new version coming out I should wait for instead of looking for copy now?
why do you get the bandit card if you didn't beat him?
you always get the card even if you don't defeat the trap / enemy.
Unless you die you always defeat the encounter, but suffer more or less damage during the fight.
@@philippechotard1603 Exactly. If you are alive, you won the fight but they might have nicked you up a bit in the battle!
Sitting here with the game and I just don't get it. I didn't roll enough. Now what?
if you are trying to cover a square on an enemy or trap and you dont meet the requirements, you get penalised in what ever way the box states.. health, time or both normally.
Nice video! You only get six white potion cubes though, not eight.
ha! you are correct.. can't count!
No biggie! The directions that came with the game do say eight, but the revised directions online say the correct amount.

Seems overcomplicated and overwhelming. Gonna pass on this game.
Amazon is selling this game for £60.00 !!!!!!!!
Will not buy it..... absolutely not.
Kind regards.
Amazon price is way to high, this game should be in your FLGS for around £23

I really wish they had a mix of both women and men heroes to keep things equal. Pretty bad place for the creators to push this feminism thing...
All sorts of games have all male protagonists. Does that mean that they are all harboring some secret male-exclusive political agenda?
