Tbh, I feel like modern family guy feels like it needs to pander to 12 year olds with “TIKTOK!!!” And “MILLENNIAL PARENTS!!!” When people don’t really want that. For me at least. Family guy is at its best when it’s heartfelt and off the walls, some of the best episodes are ones for seasons 2-9. We got the road to’s. Brian wallows and Peter swallows. And then there we fewer, it’s all very charming stuff. But then in the newer episodes everyone feels, lifeless I guess. Stewie when from baby genius to basic kid character. Chris went for gag character to porn funny. Lois went from insane in a good way too, insane like you’d see in a bad comedy. And real good the new characters suck. I still can’t believe that they fought Doug was gonna stick, like who the hell likes Doug? Come on. What’s one memorable thing Doug has done?
James, great vid! You did a really good job of capturing where the show lost its magic, and thus much of its appeal for the original core audience. It appears to have run a simultaneous course with much of the “outside world” during this time. It will be fascinating to see how it’s various phases are viewed thru the lens of hindsight a generation or so from now. Thank you for once again turning out a thoughtful introspective watch
I could kind of take it when it was on fox in the late 90s and my brotherwatched it...maybe it was early 2000s...but I can't take it now. Never thought it was great...but when I watch a couple episodes with my son I just couldn't take it...felt like my brain melted and fell out my ears...just dumb and badly written....
Family guy vid goes hard but disagree with the take on Lois. We are watching her turn into a feminine icon rivaling her predecessors such as: Amy Dunne from Gone girl, or Pearl from the X franchise. A woman misunderstood and pushed to the very brink of her own sanity by an unempathetic society that has forced her into unwanted stereotypical relationships. She is a woman broken by the society that made her. We will watch as she is forced to destroy herself, but if she’s going down so is everyone around her. Her suffering will not be in silence.
