- Here's a how to video on changing out pre-cut sand paper wrap on a Supermax 16-32 Drum Sander. I've wanted one of these machines for a while and was finally able to purchase one in late 2020. I've had a handful of folks on my Instagram ask about changing the paper out. So I decided to make a video on it.
To change the paper is fairly straight forward and only takes 1-2 minutes, but it does need done in a certain way. I use Jet brand pre-cut rolls that are ready to go for my size drum. The main reason I don't use the type to cut is time. This style of paper roll is way faster to put on for me. Hope this helps someone out there!
Thank you for watching, if you feel so inclined please like and subscribe. I also post and share other woodworking projects, shop items and tools on my Instagram page: / thecreativegrain
Thank you. I just got mine and I took the new one off as your suppose to in order to calibrate the height. But I didn’t replace it I used it as a pattern to cut a bunch of new strips off the 55 yard rolls.
When I went to install it I needed a visual representation as that’s how I learn best . Found your video, watched it, went out to shop and continued cutting more strips. But
when it came time to installing , I did but I wasn’t sure that there should be such a big space at the beginning of the roll, so checked this video out again, and seen that yes there is a space . So thank you for the great video. And sorry for the long winded comment.
Great video! I’m looking at buying one of these. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Nice quick video. Got what i was looking for. Thanks for sharing!
I should add, that i do love the machine.
That was a great how to video, thanks for posting it. If you have and tricks to keeping the feed belt tracking straight, pass it on ...Been fighting mine for about a week now.
New sub...Thanks some much...I am buying one tomorrow....Cheers Jeff
Hi, thanks for the video. Have you tried using the 115 mm width sand paper?
thanks for video, I would like to see a bette view of where the paper actually goes when putting in on the right side.
Gotcha, thanks for the input. I'll try to remember those things on my next video. Do you have an IG account? If so, I'd be happy to send you a short video on that part.
Nice job!!
New sander for me so helpful.
Where do you buy sand paper?
You made it look simple, I've tried starting on both sides, but I can't get it tight enough, and it over laps on the first seam on the right side. Any thoughts?
I have the same problem. Working “blind” makes it tough to make sure the paper is trapped between the correct elements of the clamp. The clamp spring is really hard to operate with senior hands. The instructions in the manual are no good either. They do caution you to make sure there is a little space at the very end (see pictures in the book).
Have you had any problems with tracking or adjusting feed belt alignment?
I've had a few times where I had to re-adjust the wrap in the beginning of installing it in order to get it tight. Overall it works very well!
Yes. I have. Mainly getting loose on right side. Which then leads to overlap and burning. But another video say u should leave a seam gap between the last wrap and new to last wrap on the right side and then feed the tip into The tensioner. This gap will allow for expansion and let the tensioner take up slack. I will try this tmw. Last time I used the sander 3 months ago, I was frustrated With the wrap loosing up but got the project done before I found a good you tube video with more narrative. I had wrapped like this video did and had those problems.
Accurate video up until you get to the 2nd slot, it’s is a nightmare to get it lined up to go in the slot. If I had known how hard it is, I wouldn’t have bought the machine.
THE CLAMPS ON THE POWERMATIC ARE HORRIBLE AND THE BELTS ARE ALWAYS SLIPPING --I will look into this type
The clamp on the right side is nearly impossible to get right. I have spent hours and ruined many belts with this machine. It's been a nightmare. I'm selling it.

How do you have ads with only 49 subs?
just one at the beginning before your video started...
Essentially useless video since what was shown is clearly indicated in the instruction manual. The problem is that is isn't so wasy to slip the end into the clip on the side toward the motor. Also, it's maybe much easier for younger woodworkers. As we age there are parts of our bodies which don't have the same flexibility and strength and fingers/hands are one of those parts. So, while it's a no-brainer to know the procedure it's much more difficult to carry out the steps, no matter what anyone says. It's a great sander. Even with the tool that Laguna included with the sander (which doesn't seem to really be shaped quite right for its funtion), it's a difficult task to get that last end of the paper rol inserted in the clamp. Maybe a video which gives some tips directed to this problem would be helpful.
Help does anyone know where I can find a front roller for the feeder table on the perfomax 16/32 drum sander. I keep getting the reply that it is discontinued.
