Yes we had a great wedding in way less than $10K.. We decided what was the biggest important items,and then did research, even my husband loves thrifting, he found his suit for $20,took it in for tailoring to update it, looked great and applied the money to other areas, we had friends offer their backyard for the reception and his parents offer to provide the reception food. Friends did the decorations, and it was an absolutely great event and had lots of fun!
Zev, personally, I would consider using money from the estate to fix up the house, rent it out through a good local agent, then move to where it is you want to go. That way you still own the house, but you’re also moving on to where you want to go. If you feel that renovating and renting the house is too painful, then sell it and have peace that you did right by your father while he was alive and that he, as a parent, would want you to do right by yourself now xoxo
heres some input..that didn't work..and I spent nearly 3 years, trying to have things work for her and her son(couch potatoe who does 24/7/365 videos and doesn't work..and is over 26 years old)..I gave them the Dave Ramsey books..total money makeover..Plus Chrissy's book on female business, cause the lady has a disability with walking..so, I made several drives from Arizona, to Baltimore , MD. to attempt to help them both...it all fell on deaf ears....excuses ranged from "I don't want to do any on line business"..to I read both books, but its not for me and my son"...to..."Hon, you must think I don't know how to manage my income?"..After 4 long drives, and nearly 3 years, I just threw it all away, and will find some body in my home state, who is responsible...both mentally, and financially as well.....She lives on SS Disability which is total starvation after you pay a rent at 850 a month, utitlies not included, gets about 156 a month food subsidy, and at the end of the money, there is half the month left.....proof again, you can lead any horse to water, but can NOT make it drink if it refuses to.....SO we broke it off well over a year ago....and she finally is getting the message that I do not want to move to Maryland..love or not...to fall into the fincncial PIT both her son and HER have established....I live modestly, but manage to save a lot because I know exactly what I need on an yearly-basis..My truck is a F350 Superduty Diesel with 368,000 miles and run great cause I take care of it...when you don't have a 600 dollar vehicle payment, you CAN afford to maintain most rigs........just payed off a nice RV FOR MYSELF, THAT WAS LIKE ABOUT 30,000....AND AID IT IN FULL, IN LESS THE 6 MONTHS.....Its a start for me to get some property this year, so I can build my home the way I wish to.....and 6 years ago, I purchased a little hard covered book, after listening to Daves' radio broadcast, here in the White Mountains of Arizona...the book was 'the Total Money Makeover..it is a bible for money, even god would approve of it, because his words are certainly in there, especially where you can help others after you've taken care of managing gods money....So. Semper Fi to Ramsey Solutions, and I hope and pray, people out there, can save themselves the grief that I went thru.....I simply tried to help folks who couldn't hear what Dave was talking about.......

The MARRIAGE is more important to me now, at 40. I've never been married before, however, I need to see that money move into something greater for generational wealth, and much larger than I can see in just a short day of a wedding. That's more important to me than one day that's really for witnesses and not us. I'm definitely for justice of the peace and REAL love... now, let's get to the baby making part lol :)
I thought Dave was going to say "the thing about personal finance is that it's personal and full of personal decisions". Like, how do we chase sentimental value for someone else? The level of importance is on the individuals getting married (and their family if the individuals release that kind of control to them in the process).

Rob has the option to 1031 into a rental property then convert that property to his personal residence, that would be the most efficient thing to do tax wise. You will need to rent out the property for a year or two.

My son and now daughter in law invited the familes and his best friend and her sister to have their engagement party luncheon and they said after lunch we are getting married at the park down the street. They had a photographer and it was beautiful and they spent less then 1000. Total. He had bought her a beautiful engagement ring and wedding ring. They wanted to save for them to buy a home. I told them i would if paid for a big wedding if they wanted and they said no. We want to save her family and me the cost. And that was last july 2021 and it is now feb and they found their home. God bless the wise children we raised to become smart adults. I had a small wedding in 1990 and we paid about the same and we were married for. 30 years we just celebrated our anniversary in june 2020 and in August 2020 he passed. It is not the cost of the wedding that is important it is that you married for love and kept your vows. And don't go broke in the process

@1:28:00 Does Dave consider manufactured homes to be the same as a mobile home? I know there are degrees of them, like single wide trailer vs massive log home vs a kit built home. Heard a similar discussion about a mobile home that sounded more like a travel trailer RV yesterday.
At that point it's about curb appeal. When you go to show it to sell, does your average buyer think "home" or "mobile home." There are some very well made pre-fabs that no one outside of the industry would know it. That is what will affect the sale price.
I just sold my manufactured home for $220K. Paid $150K for it brand new in 2009.

Yeah, people who advocate compound interest is more important than debt elimination say his advice makes you lose [potential] returns.

The 33 year old Caitlin is great! Most ladies that age are very immature. Taking responsibility for yourself and your finances not only makes you richer but also really makes you grow up and mature.
Most ladies that age are not immature. I’m 32 almost debt free. That’s true of my friends too.
