  • First time an Amtrak Charger ALC-42 has led the Silver Star. Caught this last week at Orlando Station after the Lightning game because P092 was delayed almost 4 hours. Super cool units.

    Seeing more and more chargers come onto trains being pulled by Genesis locomotives honestly reminds me of all those videos of steam locomotives getting replaced by diesels during the transition era of railroading.

      Yep! It also reminds me of when the P42s started replacing the old F40s back in the day too.

    Seems like the Chargers are getting a bit of distaste from the railfan community. Personally, I love them, and this is coming from someone who was born when the P42s were still being manufactured. I wasn't a huge fan of the Chargers when they debuted, but they've really grown on me over time. The sleek design, sharp raised letter K5LA, and "high tech" ditch light flash is what won me over with them. And let's not forget being able to see inside the engine at night with the light on, now that's badass. As for the P42, it's a double edged sword for me because I'll definitely miss them when they're gone. The old school narrow font K5LAs and thundering 7-FDL16 motors just can't be matched when it comes to the Chargers, but then again, I've been shooting the Genesis motors since 2011 and am excited to see a fresh new engine make an appearance on Amtrak.

      Lol I agree except for the way the ditchlights flash. Hard to get good photos.

    Hope they make the ditchlights flash smoothly like they do on P42s. But they probably won't.

      @@Your_Uncle_is_watching It's probably due to the fact that the headlights and ditch lights on the Chargers are LED compared to halogen on the Genesis units

    Awesome video I heard one of the P42 got shut down because of mechanical issues. I think it was like three hours late.

      Yep the P42 broke down the day before so the charger got to lead.

    Great video! Just wondering since I know you fly drones, what are the rules and regulations with them in regards to flying them with trains? Example:
    How far away/high do I need to be from a moving train to video it?
    How far/high do I need to be to video a railroad depot?
    If there are other regulations too you know of I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much!

    • @AmtrakTBL
      @AmtrakTBL  9 месяцев назад

      There no real regulations you can pretty much fly wherever you want as long as it’s not near an airport. I would just stay a safe distance away from the locomotives and don’t fly in their path.

      @JustinsRailfanning 9 месяцев назад

      @@AmtrakTBL Yep, I heard that the railroads sometimes are classified as critical infrastructure where you can’t fly over the train. Does CSX/NS have that? I just don’t want to get caught up with any trouble on the railroad police.
