One thing I absolutely _love_ about Penelope is that when Odysseus started to get angry, when the monster kicked in at her asking him to break the bed, she met him at that level. Penelope harmonized with the part of him he was terrified for her to know, basically saying, “Idgaf what you’ve done! You’re my husband! I’ve loved you for the twenty years you were gone, and I’ll keep loving you!”
An absolute legend on _so many levels_

30:21 It makes sense for her to test him. Zeus in particular is known for shape shifting to trick women into sleeping with him, and other gods have done it too. He would not have been above impersonating Odysseus to seduce his grieving wife, so Penelope was smart to confirm.

The reason they couldn't string that bow is because it is by means NOT a normal bow. It had an insane draw and literally only Odysseus could string it at all let alone draw it to fire an arrow. She literally gave them an impossible task.

    • @ultro8288

I think as well that the idea is that there was a technique to stringing the bow. Since Odysseus is known as Athena's Warrior of the Mind more than his strength, she probably taught him how to use it. Which lines up with the 'buying you time' lines from Penelope, since she's buying Telemachus time to be trained by Athena, probably with the thought that he would return and be able to complete the challenge himself.

In the original Odyssey, Penelope says the thing about the olive tree (wedding bed) to test Odysseus if he really was her husband because Athena helped him by disguising him as a beggar before he entered his palace and killed all the suitors. But in Epic, Odysseus wasn’t the disguised and Penelope knew it was him. But because he was so broken saying he “wasn’t the man she knew and loved” Penelope used the olive tree thing. When Odysseus reacted so strongly about it, she says “only my husband knew that so I guess that means it’s you” and goes on to say “I will always love you” telling him that no matter what, whether he came back as a “monster” he is still her husband

Hold Them Down: Antinous (Main leader of the Suitors)
    Open Arms: Polites
    Odysseus’ Son: Telemachus
Yes, it is true that Telemachus had his mother, though she was not able to properly train him as Odysseus could’ve and that is why he isn’t able to fight in the wisdom saga.
Yes, Odysseus leaves for war after Telemachus is born, relating to Just a Man when he compares Astyanax (Hector’s son/baby) to his own son in terms of age.
In “Would You fall in love with me”, Penelope brings up the wedding bed, not only as a reference to the Odyssey (to prove that it was him), but also to really get to Odysseus that he is still the man that she fell in love with

My favourite change from the original odyssey is that originally, Ody arrives in disguise to deal with the suitors. And he's changed so much physically that even out of disguise Penelope doesn't immediately recognise him. Him telling her the detail about how he carved their bed from the olive tree is what convinces her it's really him but before then she doesn't even believe he's back.
In Epic she knows it's him, and instead the discussion around the bed etc. is more about him saying he's a different man and she'll have to fall in love with him again, and her saying he'll always be the man she loves despite what he's been through. It's more of a metaphorical "unrecognisable" - he became the monster but deep down he's the same man as he was when he left, and she still loves him even after he tells her what he has done and been through.

The fact we know about Oddysseus pain but thiss is the first time we hear about Penelope's, she knows it's him, and for him to come home and go: Hey, it's okay if you don't want me anymore... I understand it's so heartbreaking.

Been watching since before troy saga, a while before actually. Been through a lot since then.
Lost family members that would've loved this and immediately after losing them listened to epic, it helped me through a lot. Me and my brother don't bond over a lot, we don't share interests but we love epic the musical, every release date for a saga has been exciting for me and him to talk, went through my parents divorce with this and that was hard. Epic has always been here for me, sad to see this parts over, honestly haven't stopped crying since the watch party, but it was worth it. Can't wait for the rest!
Thank you Jorge Rivera Herans, for sharing this experience, this journey, your Odyssey.

    I got you, Scoot!
    The Challenge: Penelope is singing
Hold them down: Yes, it is Antinous, yes, he did fight Telemachus(the prince/Odysseus son) in "Little Wolf. "
Odysseus: Fun fact! The word Odysseus is sung to open the song and to end it!
Also, not knowing it was Jorge singing as Odysseus.... I'll let it slide this time. And Polites sings "Open Arms"
(I'll edit this as I watch)

I believe that the weapons room was left opened because Telemachus had just returned from his trip, to see the palace ransacked. Because of that he armed himself and forgot to close the door or left it unlocked on purpose. I don't think Odysseus left it open, but it could fit narratively either way

    • @qryptid
      @qryptid 15 дней назад +1

That's kinda how it goes down in The Odyssey, that it was Telemachus and the two men assisting him who accidentally left it unlocked. I believe this is hinted at when the suitors are attacking Telemachus, Melanthyus or Euryphemus(?) whoever says "He's made a grave mistake, left the weapons room unlocked"
But the Odysseus we know who has turned into The Monster would totally be the kind of person to set that as an intentional trap. Would love to see Jorge elaborate on what happens off camera in this act, if it's close to the original story or if he imagines something a bit different.

First song is sung by Penelope backed in some parts by the chants of the suitors.
Antinous, aka big bag evil dude, sings hold them down also backed by the suitor chants.
Antinous was killed at the end of hold them down, so individual suitors took over during Odysseus, as well as Odysseus and Telemachus.
I can’t help but wonder is a duet between Telemachus and Odysseus
Will you fall in love with me again is of course a duet between Odysseus and Penelope.

Gotta remember it's been 20 years since she's seen him and he is TIRED. In the Odyssey Penelope instructs a servant to move the bed and Odysseus says that the bed is immovable due to the root of the tree it was carved in and she confirms him to be her husband since he was the only man to know that. She is a smart woman and cunning, but to also prove that, that man is not a monster but her husband truly and always.

9 sagas we've been thinking how much Ody must love his wife to do so much to get home to her. One song into the last saga and we collectively UNDERSTAND why he needs to get home to this queen
