Hey, the ptarmigan tries it's best. There is only so much it can do, being so closely related to grouse lol. I'm just glad I was able to train my dog not to chase them- sometimes they would smash into the windows in my house 😖
I found out only yesterday that North America even HAD grouse when learning about the Sage Hen, so the timing of this video is ON POINT! And such a pretty bird, too! Also, kudos for the Mario & Zelda references ⚔🛡
Great video! In the uk, we call Lagopus lagopus the “red grouse” and it’s true they generally don’t go all white! They are generally widespread on heather moors. What we call ptarmigan (Lagopus mutus) does go white in winter, but they are only found on the high mountains in the Scottish highlands.
Awesome video, been waiting for this one ahaha Also something you may find interesting is that us native people in the north have stories on the willow ptarmigan mating rituals and as far as I know it hasn’t been documented yet. They mate in groups of two males and two/four females. The females all stand in the middle while the two males dance around them in a circle. They do this before spring on the ice. My father told me this story a few years ago.
Hi Danielle . Can we know a lot about Coyotes in the North Americas ? I see them around the PNW cities lately ! I like this channel very much 💖 Thank you for teaching us
If we’re talking about cute sounding birds, please feature the Eider Duck. Their call would make anyone smile. They sound like a Victorian lady who’s just witnessed something inappropriate.
I can't believe I turn on RUclips and the first video in my feed, apparently, shows me my spirit animal I never knew which was: as apparently I speak ptarmigan at least half the time and always have...lol!
Suggestion for another bird if you haven't done this yet: The critically endangered Kakapo, a flightless parrot in New Zealand. Remarkable conservation story, but lots to go, less than 300 living. I love how your stories raise awareness of threats to animals!
I love the "paow paow paow paow" sound. For some reason in other vids I've seen, the ones in seberia seem to be a lot more aggressive and territorial lol. Hard to be mad at a perfect little white blob with red eyebrows lmaoo
I need to know what the noises and their meanings are. In particular, the sound I've heard in some other video. The video says "Lets hear what it has to say". And the ptarmigan says "A werewolf!" and "Get out!" Very important for writing a story with werewolves!!!!
So jealous of the weather atm. Beautiful creatures❤❤Nice, heated 43C++ here. No relief anytime soon. All the animals here are going to start turning dead grass yellow
@@LaddRusso91 basically if it had wings, it would try to murder me lol but yes it started with yellow roosters trying to murder me as a little kid. Birds just single me out for some reason and attack or chase me and I just adore birds. They’re sweet and funny to everyone but me lol
I was chased by roosters and turkeys as a kid haha. I still like birds, but I don't trust their eyes, if that makes any sense. I got sparrows that made nests at my windows, chirping and making a mess everyday.
The title had me scratching my head, but I've actually seen these birds before. As a non-native speaker, I simply wasn't familiar with their English name.
Sure. Quite a few animals living in this type of climate have a white coat in winter and a brown one in summer. The mountain hare, for example or the Arctic fox.
It's wild to me that people enjoy the tundra. Not judging. I'm just a herp nerd, and the northern most reptile is the vivipara, so I have nothing to watch besides the caribou. However, the woodland caribou are cooler still
They have feet like a hare's and sound like frogs. So cute.
And so delicious!
It does sound like a frog
What does it taste like
@@tymeng683like chicken
@@marcosphillips4232tasty like chicken or patridge?
"Growing closer to that perfect orb shape." Same, ptarmigan. Same.
With ya
I can't believe "the body is round" is a legitimate survival trait
In Japan, ptarmigans are called thunderbirds(雷鳥).
I feel in love with Ptarmigans as soon as I heard their 'ROAR'! 😂 What an amazing bird! Thank you for this awesome video!
I can not be understated how loud these birds are, you can hear them forever away.
Glad to see a video about Alaska's state bird. They may be masters of camouflage, but they also have a reputation of being very dumb.
@@anonymousAJ they're the unofficial state bird.
“very dumb”
ableists try not to use “being unable to speak” as a shorthand for “incompitent” challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)

no one cares about what you say
@@originaluseernameThat's a very dumb thing to say.
Saw those things and instantly thought "grouse". Even the calls are similar. Cool birbs :)
Your calmness and genuine passion for nature and what you do is infectious. 💚
I'm a life-long bird watcher, partial to shorebirds and waterfowl, but regardless of that, ptarmigans have always been my very favorite!
Why do they sound like an old printer that’s suddenly struggling?😂😂😂
Really appreciate your channel, and the beautifully shot high-res footage!
Thank you so much!!
White walkers
Watching those feathery butterballs run is kind of funny.
Will you one day cover Pheasants too? There are so many beautiful and interestingly shaped pheasants around the world.
I also wish they’d cover peafowl
@@ryomahoffman6803 That would be amazing! And let's not forget the Polyplectrons that look like peafowls but are actually pheasants!
They are so adorable, im so glad this world has beautiful funny birds like that
Thank you for continuously introducing me to new species! I would die for these
In Iceland, We call their calls burps,
When Hunting, just follow the burping snow and you'll find them.

I love their deep voices!
Those roars seem to come straight of old school Star Wars! Amazing, you made my day.
A walking rotisserie chicken has to have a lot of tricks up it sleeves to not get Dodo'd
I can't decide if I think the reason for no drawing, is because it'd be too easy or too hard (for all white, not the other variations). 🤣
The Willow Ptarmigan makes the best bird sound-especially when they get really fired up!
Danielle your hair is GORGEOUS!!

Loved the video game references, great work as always!
Their run is so cute 😭💙
Aww, the sounds they make remind me of the bar in "Star Wars, A New Hope." I just hope they serve their kind in there!
They sound like Steve Buschemi.
If we’re talking about cute sounding birds, please feature the Eider Duck. Their call would make anyone smile. They sound like a Victorian lady who’s just witnessed something inappropriate.
Yes they are. I couldn’t even see the dude in the thumbnail at first.
Flamingos, next video please

I've never heard of this bird in my life and I'm in love
- What *beautiful* birds 🐦 🐦⬛ ❤.
Saw one today at Mt. Rainier!! Plus a cool Hoary Marmot, my first time being up and seeing either animals.
Now I can't think of anything else than a feathery T-Rex doing that kind of sound. And I'm really scared.
I love these funny little guys
Next you should talk about the various species of Yoshi and whether or not they should be feathered.
You are an amazing artist
Your channel is a masterpiece!
Instead of the birds are singing, the ptarmigans are ptalking!

What a fun video! Thank you Danielle
“Buxom beauties” ❤
Love me some Ptarmigan.
"Mrwrm" - Ptarmigan 2023
Love their derpy calls 😅
“Do the roar” 😂
I am begging you to PLEASE do a rain frog video!!! It would make my entire year
1:56 they're tiny dinosaurs 🦖
Well this was wonderful!!
The Canadian survival game i play just introduced Ptarmigan!
Now I know what the Dougal Dixon's Tromble evolved from.
If you told me that bird inspired Lucasfilm's Star Wars' alien animal noises, I would totally believe you. 1:57
they look like pigeons, grouped with chickens and relatives to grouse?
Tundra chicken
Certified Ptarmigans Classic
It's amazing to me that a fox can catch a bird that can fly.
Your Drawings are a wonderful inspiration! I must Study and learn.
"That one sounds like Wario!" It really did! Waahh
They look like a fancy chicken they sound like someone trying to do their own sound effects
I think I just found my new fave animal

One of my favorite birds thank you! Please consider doing the rare caecillian or the elusive olm! Thank you!
They are like francolins of the artic
Please do a video about the red-crowned cranes.
I suggest we use samples of their calls for dinosaur sounds
LOVE THEM
Roar?!? Sounds more like a Croak!! 🐸
Rock ptarmigans are so adorable. The males red eyebrows remind me of K.K. Slider from Animal Crossing. How could you not mention their red brows. 🥺
I'd love to see a video on burbot!
Awesome birds! They have snowshoes lol!
Wario Chickens! I love it!
