So, my takeaway from this video is that Queen isabella was tough on people who committed the crime of being Jewish?
That's a valid interpretation, and the portrayal could have been clearer. Queen Isabella's decision to expel the Jews from Spain was based on religious grounds, not criminality. It's essential to present such historical events with accuracy and nuance.

Thank you for acknowledging this, may I suggest you pin that comment. Because the Spanish Inquisition from my knowledge had a lot more to do with religious reparation rather than law enforcement.

@@acaydia2982First of all, Jews in Europe were forced into money-lending. They were barred from owning land and barred from manufacturing new things. Second, Queen Isabella believed that the Jews would convert to Catholicism instead of leaving Spain. She did NOT expel Jews, because they loaned money. She wanted an all Catholic country after centuries of Islamic occupation & subjugation.
Respect to the female pirate with a middle finger on her ship 🤔🙂
Agreed
Her story is actually way cooler than this.
She didn't sell her lands, the French king took them
So she went back to her castle playing the tragic widow to get sympathy, and when the new owners let her in she burned that shit to the ground 🔥
Then she got in a row boat with her young children (I think she was in her late 20s early 30s) and *rowed across the freaking English channel* one of the most dangerous crossings even on a warship let alone a dingy, and kept on rowing even when one of her children died in the boat
So she lands in England and demands an audience with the King, the king meets with her and she basically says, "Give me some ships so I can fu*ck with the french"
The king goes "hell yeah" and gives her the ships.
She dyes the sails fu*cking red! And then sails up and down the coast of France, burning and pillaging until she decides to retire and marry an English nobleman
She was called: The Lioness of Brittany

Ikr! Humans lose their mind when they get power, doesn't matter which gender 😅
Statistically speaking they were far more likely to start wars than their male counterparts. although an argument can be made that it was necessary to then to promote military campaigns to solidify her rule or that they were more prone to be attacked by neighbors thinking that they would be weaker rulers.
Yeah, but also history has been unkind in its description of them. Like Queen Elizabeth I had made many reforms but perhaps her execution of the Catholic priests is more highlighted and so is the Protestant executions by her elder sister Queen Mary (the bloody Mary)
@@astahfirulaNo. Female rulers were less likely to begin wars of aggression or expansion, but as you say, they did get more frequently attacked out of the entirely misguided notion that somehow female rulers don't make good military leaders.

Just accept that the use of “avenging” in this case is completely wrong.
Should have said having her vengeance against the French king. "Avenging the French king" means attacking people on behalf of the French king, being his proxy avenger. Completely opposite meanings.

"was a tough crime fighter. She initiated the Spanish Inquisition and expelled all Jews from Spain". Uh.......you doing okay there, RFK Jr.?
And sent a criminal and butcher to scout the Americas🎯
I NEED a series on Amina and Clissaw. Both women lived their lives to their standards and didn't let anyone tell them otherwise.
I think what was implied in the first part is that because Jews in Medieval Europe were treated as scapegoats and blamed for many problems of the time (especially disasters like plagues) and consequently and constantly exiled for it -- keep in mind that Jewish communities were usually not welcoming to nonbelievers so they lived in their separate neighbourhoods and that resulted in them not being that affected by the deadly plagues -- Spain treated them as criminals as well.
You know how the Catholic Church would not even allow Christians to read the Bible but would tell them they were chosen by God? Yet God's chosen people would rot away by poverty, disease, starvation etc. while the Jews would thrive and continue to live in wealth. That's how Jews became scapegoats in Medieval Europe.
Christian antisemitism is funny because Jesus is a Jew.

Imagine a Queen Amina movie. An actual black woman ruler of Africa and not that Cleopatra mess. A simple google search would saved Netflix so much trouble 😵💫
Amina was a looser
A quick search on Netflix's catalogue would have shown you that a Queen Amina movie exists. It came out way before Cleopatra. This is why I think that people who say this would not watch these movies anyway. (Btw I do not support the Cleopatra series, there are way more interesting Africa. Black queens who were way more significant like Queen Amerinas of Nubia and Queen Tiye, the Nubian queen of ancient Egypt, during it's most prosperous period, or even Queen Sheba of Ethiopia).

The expelled Jews were made welcome by the Muslim Sultans in Constantinople. From them the Muslims learned the methods of casting large cannons and used to create the Topçu (artilery) troops used with devastating effect on battlefield and sieges against the christians in subsequent years (one example is the battle of Mohács in 1526, which led to the dissolution of the Kingdom of Hungary and the occupation of the third of country for 150 years).
Perhaps it wasn't such a good idea of Isabella to persecute the Jews.
Why is everyone ignoring the fact that she ousted the Muslims as well?
Also ignoring that the Muslims were the ones in power before this as well?
Odd

I respect the pirate queen, that's a woman who truly loved her husband. This is proof that female leaders back then we're just as bloodthirsty and brutal as well as promiscuous as their male counterparts. Women today, blaming the "patriarchy" would never want this being made public because it would raise questions and eyebrows.
Your perspective on Jean de Clisson's actions as a form of love and loyalty is an interesting take. Her story does challenge the traditional narratives of female leadership and highlights the complexities of human emotions and motivations in history.

As a Jew watching the first part was a bit difficult
I really appreciate your honest comment and I totally get your point.
Being Jewish is not, and has never been, a crime. However, during Queen Isabella I's reign, there were significant religious tensions and conflicts. The expulsion of Jews from Spain, known as the Alhambra Decree of 1492, was not because being Jewish was considered a crime, but rather due to a misguided attempt to create religious uniformity. It's important to understand that this was a period of history marked by religious intolerance, and these actions are not condoned or justified today. We discuss these historical events to learn from them and to promote a more inclusive and tolerant society.

Since when did being a Jew become a crime?
That's an excellent question. You had to become Christian, and the Inquisition was a way to enforce this, to make sure you did not only say you were but also believed in it. There were actually two Inquisitions: a religious (spiritual) one and a secular one (law). Because Spain had been conquered and there were still external threats this was a way to safeguard against dissent and revolutions, so it was also a way to curtail Islamic forces and even Christian or pagan splinter groups. Some of the better known figures of the Inquisition were sometimes converts.
