@@2011Tatin I didn't think it was THAT ugly. But bulky, yes. The inner side where the screens are located, actually looked pretty cool, has an early 2000s feel. Mario Kart DS and Kirby somehow felt more fun on the original model. The silver finish reminds me of the GBA SP. The ugliest part is the outside, looks like a weird brick or a makeup case. Unusual design choice even for that era.
To all who care, the DSi does have exclusive games that aren't on the original DS or DS Lite. The DSiWare is available on the 3DS as well, but no longer available on the DSi unless you mod it and only legally if you dump it from a 3DS. A modded DSi can also play DS and GBA roms off of the internal SD card without a flash cart. I don't like how DS games look on the 3DS so I use a modded DSi to play both physical games and roms, then if I want to play GBA roms my favorite way to do it is also my DSi.
If you hold the start button on a 3DS while a DS game is booting it plays in the native resolution rather than the pixaleted mess that it usually starts in, but it takes up less of the screen so if that's a bother then yeah I use my DS Lite to play DS games cause it just works better
I know, I don't like how they look like that either, it's so small with a lot of black space. I have a 3S XL so that's a lot of wasted screen space and looks worse than if you don't do that to me. Like you, since I have a normal DSi XL anyways I just play on there. I love it and the ability to play DS roms and DSiWare and GBA games on it is great. The 3DS is great as a backup or second device though, like when I go out and only want to take one device or if the battery on my DSi dies.
@@NottJoeyOfficial how did you mod the dsi? Last time I checked (about a year ago) you had to use some weird flipnote exploit that could brick your system. Has it gotten easier?
A modded DSi can only run a few GBA titles at good speeds and minimal glitches (and with working saves) It's really not worth the hassle, if you're interested in GBA games, you're way better off with a hacked 3DS since it can run GBA games natively. But besides that, yeah, a modded DSi with Twilight Menu is the ultimate way to play DS games.
NDS was (and still is, of course) an awesome console. It have games for everyone, literally. You can enjoy really good FPS games, strategy games, visual novels, puzzles and A LOT of RPGs. The library of this console is HUGE.
In my humble opinion this is the best console ever made by Nintendo, ofc the Switch is probably going to beat it at some point, but is just ridiculous the amount of good games this console have.
Some other games I'd recommend on the DS for sure; Mario and Luigi: Partners in time which is a prequel to Bowser's inside story. A lot of people don't like it but I love it. Nintendogs is a surprisingly very fun game! I love looking after dogs even if it's virtual. Zelda: Spirit Tracks is a game you should definitely try, especially if you liked Phantom Hourglass (I loved both) The Legend of Spyro: a new beginning was a very interesting game I remember from my childhood which I unfortunately have never finished as I lost the cartridge. I would definitely recommend. There are so many other games but I wanted to point out less popular/more forgotten about games
Who else didn't know about pixel perfect mode? Well, I would use my DS lite for DS games and GBA games and then duh the 3ds for 3ds games. It is weird how they look on the 3ds because of the different resolution. I'll have to try that nice tip you can make your digital GB games have that yucky green tint lol
I remember turning on my DS lite for the first time in over 5 years and by some miricle it had enough charge to turn on and run for 5 minutes. Great batteries
The DS lite is more glossy and I’d say the DSi goes for a matte finish. Incase you don’t wanna buy a card for ROM hacks you could use a random SD card on your DSi which can be convenient. But the DS lite is backwards compatible with the game boy but then again homebrew could let you get different gameboy games in the DSi.
The DS was my childhood. My favourite games, in order of nostalgia. 1. Animal Crossing: Wild World 2. Super Mario 64 DS 3. Mario Kart DS 4. Brain Training 5. New Super Mario Bros. 6. Nintendogs 7. Zelda Spirit Tracks 8. Sonic Rush 9. Mario and Luigi Partners in Time
If you're looking for a DS, and don't mind the upscaling (experimentation is going on to fix the hardware upscaler), the 3DS is by far the way to go. Often times you don't even need a flash cart to get where you want to go, homebrew utilities like TWiLightMenu (a frontend for the extremely clever nds-bootstrap software, which uses the 3DS hardware as a pseudo-flashcard for the 3DS's DS hardware) to do the DS game running, and an on-device baremetal utility like GodMode9 to take your physical carts and dump the ROMs (among numerous other functions), it's really among the best ways to *carry* your DS games. TWiLightMenu also runs on DSi, DSi XL, and DS flashcards (though it's less useful there, since the card does all the work)
Nice fitting video, I purchased a black Ds lite with original box in really good condition, original charger, stylus, extra stylus in a package unopened in the box, gba card slot cover player and all the manuals in good condition all for $20 CAD. Only issue is the ds right side front facing top screen corner is nicked out at the corner so there is no hinge. I ordered a replacement front plate and hinge on aliexpress for like 5 bucks total
The DS is my favourite - I have 500 + games for it. Throw in the GBA library and if you go 3Ds - virtual console etc the library is not to be beat anytime soon. Viva the DS!
The DS lite was the first handheld I had, and many a year was spent with it before the fire. We had a 3ds on layby before the fire and finished the pay with the insurance. I still miss it, and Soulsilver with pokewalker. Memories brother
Nintendo 2DS is one of the best deals in gaming today. You can get a refurb straight from Nintendo for about $60? With such a huge library and such a comfortable device to play on, it's a steal.
If you buy a DS Lite and a 2DS (or 2DSXL) you have access to THREE LIBRARIES. The GBA, DS and 3DS libraries. Which means, in terms of pokemon, you get every generation of pokemon. In terms of other stuff, you get games from 2001-2019. 18 years of handheld games!
Such a great handheld and still love mine and play it. Loose carts are pretty cheap too. Some Gamestops still have accessories did the 3DS. The Wii U is definitely a good spot for some of the rarer games.
My first Nintendo system was a black Dsi and it has a great selection of games. To this day my favorite Nintendo game is Pokemon Heartgold. The DS has the best Pokemon games.
Yeah, I haven't use my ds Lite in a very long time and sure enough it still had power. I bought a cartridge on ebay just recently that had a bunch of original NES games on it and sure enough it worked. They looked, sounded and played very well.
the Nintendo DS lite best DS for Pokemon owners to have since they can play the best Pokemon games (Leafgreen, Emerald, Platinum, Soulsilver, White and White 2) all on one console. Also the system allows you to migrate your Pokemon from GBA (Gen 3 games) to the DS titles (Gen 4)
@@v_aviles_ Actually gen 3 wont work on 3DS... And if you mean "explore every region on 3DS" Yeah its(almost) possible without VC(Kanto and Johto being HGSS, Hoenn being ORAS, Sinnoh DPPt, Unova BW/BW2, Kalos XY and Alola SM/USUM) also it was up until SwSh you couldnt play in every region on a 3DS System... And If you said:"What about DS?" Well DS cant play XY, or SM/USUM... So when you said "up until 7 on 3DS" do you mean Lets Go? because SM/USUM were on 3DS and are Gen 7 so yeah... You mean until Gen 8 and like i said.. Lets Go takes place in Kanto which can be explored on 3DS with newest iteration being HGSS... And now time to fix the comment "You can play all generations(Except 3, part of 7 and 8) on 3DS" Ta-da!
@@lukscarvalho3449 yeah but there are so many other pros to getting a new 3ds xl such as better homebrew. I enabled the 200mhz mode on my new 3ds xl via rosalina menu and playing retroarch on it sucks. Genesis games are slow asf, and don't even think about SNES either. Even SNES9x 2002 on retroarch still lags. Playing on the default 800mhz is so much better. it actually runs at full speed
Chrono trigger Pokemon, nobunagas ambition, Mario, okami, and the entire gba library. The ds is amazing even now. Hell it's got a bunch of mystery dungeon games as well so that's a sell in it of itself
@@Ar021 Yeah, the DS/3DS family of systems has had the same charger for all of their systems since the DSi. (I now have a heap of wall chargers acquired over the years to last me a lifetime. The struggle is finding the specific charger for when I want to play my DS Lite haha.)
Best setup is New 3DSXL softmodded with a R4 card for DS games. N3DS has actual GBA hardware inside so you can inject GBA ROMs. Also you can emulate SNES on N3DS. P.S. you can mod Majora's Mask to be like the N64 version. Also you can mod Phantom Hourglass to use the D-Pad to move around and use the stylus less.
I loved how the original ds was compatible with game boy advance games. Especially when playing the original kingdom hearts chain of memories for the first time!
Still use mine. Battery life is great....and this system certainly made me happier over the years than Switch. Switch forcing the use of phone apps to communicate in-game pmtfo! I have 2 DS lites...neither have hinge problems but were both adult owned. They fit in your pockets.....great games.....awesome system.
Aight same here. Basically an introvert like me rarely plays with friends if only i want to. Also a highschool student sure dont have such thing as an income. So yea i’ve been playing gameboy,DS a lot since i was in grade 5... Good news is that im bouta have a new 3ds LL soon.
I just picked up a Nintendo 3DS XL (old model) at GameStop a week or two ago. I homebrewed it, and it can play Roms from pretty much every nintendo handheld. You can also backup game carts to .cia files and install them to your SD card (that's what I did with all my DS/3DS games) You can even take a piece of software on the PC and convert .gba files to .cia and install them as native applications (although they don't support sleep mode). I don't support piracy except in the case of the games themselves not being readily availible or something I wasn't going to buy any ways but I still wanted to putz around with for a few minutes. If the GBA games were availible in a digital storefront I would abosolutely purchase them but it seems like many golden oldies won't ever make it to any digital storefront.
Great video. I love the Nintendo DS and 3DS line of consoles. I have an original DS, two DS Lite, a DSi XL and a New Nintendo 3DS XL. P.S. But i also love the Game Boy line of consoles ... so i use an EZ-Flash IV Omega cartridge in the GBA Slot of my white Nintendo DS Lite, and i'm thinking to also buy a DS flash cartridge from the same company that produce the EZ-Flash IV Omega cartridge.
ModelJames13 To be honest I’d always get $500.00 every month, to I’m seriously buying it, it even looks like a “console-toy” not gonna lie, I even played Kirby super star, witch was my favorite DS game of all time, so ya, I’m seriously hoping to get it for $149.99
@@nintendomain4956 You better hurry up. I just looked online and I'm shocked the price has already gone horrible at most places. You can still get one for $149.99 or less on eBay or at Best Buy but there aren't many left.
ModelJames13 I’m only getting it for 3 main reasons... 1. The New 2DS XL screen is 85% bigger 2. It’s Lightweight 3. The design looks perfect for me to use
Personally I prefer the n3dsxl as a Swiss Army knife of Nintendo consoles. With some cfw, having GBC, GBA, DS, 3DS, NES, and SNES all running full speed on one console is absolutely insane to me.
I own all DS models, but I usually find myself taking my DSi with me over the other models. The original DS and DSi xl is just too big for me to comfortably carry, and I just hate the feel of the DS lite's buttons. They have this weird spongy, squishy feel about them which makes playing games like Super Mario 64 DS really hard. The only problem with the DSi in my eyes is I'm constantly scared I'm going to break the shoulder buttons. This issue affects pretty much every model, but seems to be especially prominent in the DSi, plus my R button already squeaks when I press it down.
3:54 Can someone explain me about the 3ds coloring I have a aqua blue og and it doesn't have silver color but i see lots in common have silver color out from the back so pls rep
Having Switch and New2dsXL I still think that DS Lite is the best handheld console: millions of great games, very compact, battery lasts forever and easy to charge, but the greatest feature is that you can play between friends without wi-fi connection while travelling.
3DS has to be THE ultimate retro machine as far as playing Nintendo games go. It can flawlessly play GB, GBA, DS and of course 3DS games and due to being relatively small it's much more portable than Switch. On top of all that you can easily install CFW on it which opens so many new possibilities and features it's simply amazing. Want to play Genesis games? CFW makes it possible. Want custom themes? Easy. Maybe you feel like backing up your games and saves just in case? You can do that too. Want to play that one game that's available only in Japan but can't due to region lock? Modded 3ds can allow you to do just that. Heck, you can even play DOOM on 3DS with CFW.
I've owned my DS for 9 years, and i finished every game i have now i've got a new challenge in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue rescue team (Once i get it)
For Pokemon fans: >buy Emerald, HGSS, and the DS Lite >Beat Emerald, get at least one legendary and get to the Battle Tower >clone all your legendaries and a Tower-eligible mon required to do so >Beat HGSS and get to the Pal Park >transfer all your Emerald clones to Pal Park >transfer further to Gen 6 and up >upload your legendaries to GTS and request for allowable mons you dont have >congratulations, youve caught them all.
I always wanted a DS, I had a Wii and at that time the DS was exploding in popularity. If i ever buy a DS it will be a DSi and i will buy Pokemon platinum, Black/White 2 and SM64 Ds. I do have a new 3DS XL but i feel like the DS is the ultimate DS Game's machine, It gives me nostalgia about begging my parents to buy me a DS or 2DS and they ended up giving me shrek games on Wii XD (which i am grateful about of course)
Get a DS lite, it has GBA compatibility so you can play old Pokémon and transfer them to platinum and the like. The DSi’s features are all non working now except for the camera, so unless you REALLY want to take 144p pictures then it’s just a waste.
Whos Joe Agreed, I have a DSi and New 3DS XL and the DSi isn't really that interesting anymore. I still own one as I don't want to get rid of it due to Zelda Four Swords Anniversary and having one of the systems from the DS family outside of the 3DS is nice (and if I'm not in the mood for using the Stick/up for dealing with the New 3D XL's larger form factor I can use my smaller DSi, also it's sad I sold the Cyan/Light Blue DS original with Mario Kart stickers on the back of the top screen I had for a DSi now, I've never had a Lite :( but I've wanted one since I got into collecting games more). The Lite having GBA support is more interesting then the DSi's features (Camera, Sound, Photo Viewer/Photo Manipulation, no access to DSiWare or DSi Shop, more so DSi games on the 3DS eShop though from what I've heard/seen in 3DS videos) as they are included with the 3DS/2DS line and the DSi, the only reason to get a DSi is maybe to have a feeling of a Portable Wii but otherwise I don't see a reason even as someone that owns one. I only have mine still because Zelda Four Swords Anniversary is on it and haven't tried using an SD to move it [don't know if I can] (and I didn't have a 3DS of any kind until literally a month ago when I got one since I wanted one for a while [like the Vita] and the system isn't relevant anymore so I thought I'd jump at it if the games will be harder to find and they are mostly cheap now compared to before, otherwise or I can't get them at EB Games/Gamestop anymore and my local options while good only offer so much and I don't buy much online, doing the same with the Wii U now as the Switch is more relevant, might as well take a chance) and I had this DSi for a long time up until my New 3DS XL (so I keep my DSI around if I want to play DS games how they are intended or with a smaller size system besides having a reason to keep Zelda Four Swords Anniversary on it). Sorry for the repeats.
The original DS is the most nostalgic and the most authentic for me. But the DS Lite is overall better. I've heard good things about the DSi because of better screen quality or something like that. But honestly though, I'd rather play DS games on the original size screen. And of course if you also want GBA backwards compatibility, then the DS Lite is the clear choice.
DSi are the ones you should get that way you play DS and Game boy advance games or you could get a DSI XL that way you can hold it better and you could also get a case to protect it also Mario and Luigi Bowser's inside story is a great game as well as Mario and Luigi Partners in Time which was also for Nintendo DS and there's also a tone of Kirby games in Kirby Super Star Ultra
*You don't need a r4 card if you use a 3DS w/TWLoader(Homebrew app allowing .nds ROMs on console sdcard to play in native DS mode). I'd suggest the new 2ds xl, for faster loading times in games and emulators alike. The 3DS Homebrew community is strong, so check out the subreddit r/3dshacks Also, the DeSmuMe devs have a... Odd history, so I'd suggest melonDS for your DS emulation needs on desktop
Dollar for dollar, the original DSi is the best value to functionally of the DS and 3DS models. The DS Lite systems are becoming more and more expensive as time goes on, and with the hinge problems, spongy buttons, shoulder buttons that are prone to failure and primative UI interface it's debatable wether or not the GBA slot justifies the purchase nowadays. Not only is the DSi considerably cheaper (between $25 - $40 in good condition as opposed to the $60 - $80 for DS Lites or the original 2DS), it feels like a more premium system, has incredibly fast processing speeds and a clean Wii-like interface. On top of this, with modern advancements in emulation, not that you would but a modded DSi (which is easy to do) can emulate 90% of all availible DS titles and a sizeable amount of GBA, NES and Game Boy titles with few issues.
DS games look really good on my 3DS XL, top IPS screen helps out, even if many games prioritize the bottom one. Although the "scanline" look can be a bit distracting on the top screen. One thing not mentioned in the video is that you can use the thumb slider (or whatever it is called) as a d-pad. I never liked dpads so this is a good reason to play on 3DS
Lucky you I have a dual TN ACNL edition 3DS XL, I want to love it but its screen don't love my eyes. Maybe someday I will hunt down a dual IPS Happy home designer New 3DS XL.
@@Clara_Page I don't know how TN and IPS compare 1 to 1 with the other models, but comparing my Majora's Mask «new» 3DS XL to my OG 3DS the difference is significant, definitely not as saturated as my monitor, but it's good. When I put the big one at 4 brightness, it's around the 5 of OG. The difference isn't as pronounced this way, but it's kind of a clarity thing now, even putting the XL further. It's hard to look at OG screen after this somehow. A combination of a worse panel type (or just simply a lower screen size)? Is it what you're referring to? Though the lower TN screen is worse than those on OG 3DS, it's more yellow and unevenly so. The upper may be a bit yellow, but I feel like the OG's white temperature is too cold. It's a lottery either way, apparently.
I personally really enjoyed the DS as a whole... I myself had a fat DS and then a DSi XL. I also own a 3DS and a New 3DS XL. The sheer amount of games was amazing back then. Especially Mario and Pokemon were great. Sinnoh is still my favourite region due to it's map design, music, story and everything. Also I've played Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and reeeeally liked it, so I'd definitely recommend you playing it, if you haven't yet. One problem the fat DS had though was that the touchscreen kinda shifted so your presses were registered far more to the left or right than your actual press. I don't know if it's possible to fix that because it seems like it's a hardware problem. However, the DS still is an amazing sytem to this date and that is mostly thanks to it's great game library. Also the video was really nice. I really liked how you went over every single model there is. Also the several inserts into different games and franchises was really interesting as well. Overall a really nice video. I really enjoyed it.
I currently have o3DSXL and N3DSXL. I really like that it is backwards compatible but also on 3ds it kinda blurry. Gave my DSlite to my sister before and thinking of buying DS. Do you think that is necessary? I got PSVita2k, psp3k, psp1k, psp go and found Vita makes others not really needed.
@@Fnatic2010 If you want to be able to play GBA games as well the sure go for it... Just be wary of what I said that I had problems with the fat DS touchscreen shifting... I don't know if the Lite has this problem as well, but I think not. So if I were you I'd probably go for the DS Lite or DSi if you don't care for GBA games.
Thank you for not dissing Super Mario 64 DS. People always hate on that game for its strange controls with the Control Pad, but I think they need to shut up and play the game on a 3DS.
ds lite has tons of games plus the gameboy slot for games... the battery life is amazing, much better then a psp. (though for emulations the psp is the far better choice)
Gameboy Advance backwards compatibility on the Lite will always make it king to me. Just super glad it's the cheapest one you can buy, which definitely won't last forever. It's the single best authentic Nintendo console for playing Game Boy Advance games since the ergonomics destroy the Gameboy Advance AGS-101 and so does the battery life, not to mention the extra DS game library. At $35-$60 each for the Lite but $140+ for the AGS-101, it's a no brainer. I'll be buying a few dozen extra Lites for when they eventually start to rocket upwards and become unaffordable and difficult to find.
My DS Lite I’ve had forever just stopped working. I’m not sure what the problem is so I’m just gonna a get a new battery and hope for the best. What I’m trying to say is that you should get a DS Lite. They are brilliant.
I am adding screen protectors to my ds lite, I believe I noticed you had some in your previous ds video from 2 years ago. Do you have any recommended brands?
I remember so much from the Nintendo ds.🥰🥰🥰 I remember giggling at the standard flipnotes animation when i was like 3, using an action reply cartridge to hack games like, mario kart ds, diddy kong racing ds and super mario 64 ds, to get some really cool stuff like, all characters, moon jump and even beta levels!😜😜😜 Unfortunately my action reply broke a few years ago, but it was still really cool.😎😎😎 plus i can use those action replay hacks on emulator now, so the spirit of them at least, is not dead in my home.😊😊😊 And speaking of emulators, i also playd some ds rom hacks on those like, ermii kart ds or yet another super mario 3d, witch inspired me to make my own ds and even n64 rom hacks, but unfortunately, since i’m so young and know so little about programming and inserting object or texture files or anything like that, that whole idea, never went that far.🙁🙁🙁 But getting back to the good memories now.😌😌😌 Trains!🚆🚆🚆 Or more specifically, taking a ds on with me on the train.🎮🚆🚆 And yes a did say “A” ds.🎮🎮🎮 Because we actually had (and still have) 4 working ds’s!🧠💥💥 And 6 if you count the 2 that were lost and or broken.🎮💥💥 Heck, we even got some 3ds’s when those were nintendo’s financial cushion to fall back on when the wii u wasn’t selling (don’t quote me on that, i don’t know if that was actually the case) but still!🖐😮🖐 Heck, i remember getting a black dsi xl for Christmas on year!🎄🎄🎄 Heck, i remember getting a pink 3ds last Christmas because my old blue and black 3ds (witch it and my, blue dsi and red ds lite and maybe even our broken white ds lite were all hand-me-downs from my brother, btw thanks for that one m8) broke!🎮💥💥 So yeah, i will admit with our broken, blue and black 3ds and white ds lite and broken+lost combo of our pink ds lite in hand, these things were very flimsy and prone to being lost.🎮💥🛏 The ds line of systems were a massive part of my childhood with way to many fond memories of these things to count and a legacy, that will never be forgotten, any time soon. (Mario kart ds credits song plays) (Oh, And i recorded me opening my presents last Christmas so a clip of me getting a pink 3ds in 2019 is up on youtube, if you wanna see it) (i would leave a link to that video in this comment but i am typing this on the youtube app on my i pad soooo... instead i will just advise you to click my channel icon to go to my channel then scroll down until you see a video title that says “Sammy opens more Christmas presents” or something along those lines, then once you see that title and a thumbnail if a happy family’s Christmas, click on the video and skip to the part where i shiw off a 3ds case) (yeah) (bye)
Traded my ds lite for a DSiXL and use that to play my DS games. Have a 2DS for 3DS games, don't like the design but at this point don't think it would matter much to get a different model.
I want to like the DSi XL but it's too top heavy. My hands get tired holding it after 30 minutes or so. This does not happen with the 3DS XL, so I assume Nintendo noticed this problem too and designed the 3DS accordingly.
Btw the 3ds is free and easy to hack! And watch out with r4 cards, some have a timebomb or it doesn't work. I recommend the R4 3DS PLUS because is has no timebomb and it comes with Ntrboot pre-installed.
Already did with my 2DSxl with a 32gb Flash card. And yes I own almost every DS till I lost it, broke or just give it away up till my new one. Loving every second of it! Also, FUCK MOBILE PHONE GAMES LMFAO!
Where can I get a DS Lite in good condition and cheap? Also why are Pokemon DS/Gameboy Advanced games so expensive? I should have kept my blue DS Lite and black Gameboy Advanced SP and all my Pokemon games
Pokemon DS/Gameboy Advance games are so expensive cause they are the best in the entire series, also there's a lot of fake copies around driving up the price of the fewer real ones. Make sure you type in authentic when you search.
I have a blue ds lite which my parents often take away for 2 to 3 months and I can't play it often.😥 also my l and r buttons don't work when I ask them for it they just ignore me.
DS emulation is perfect for mobile for obvious reasons. My go to game is new super mario bros just for the mini games. Nintendo should make it a mobile game tbh, just the mini games.
If it's at all possible, I would recommend getting a DSi XL, if the only Pokemon games you want to play are on the DS. It has the very best screens for playing DS games. They are around $100 AUD. But, if you're planning to play the physical GBA Pokemon games too (or want to migrate your pokemon from the GBA games to HeartGold/SoulSilver), I would recommend the DS Lite as it has the GBA slot you need for migrating and playing the GBA Pokemon games. They are around $80 AUD. Without touching on the 3DS systems (as they're more expensive), you have three choices: - A DS Lite at around $80 AUD (plays DS and GBA games. Allows you to migrate pokemon from their GBA games to the DS games. Has a smaller form factor. Battery Life: 15-19 hours on lowest brightness settings.) -A DSi at around $80 AUD (same as the DSi XL, but has a smaller form factor like the DS Lite. Battery Life: 9-14 hours on lowest brightness settings.) - A DSi XL at around $100 AUD (only plays DS games (usually, but there is a free software mod you can do with an SD/microSD card that allows you to emulate Game Boy, GBC, GBA, NES, SNES and Sega Genesis on DSi systems.). Has a bigger form factor (bigger screens). Battery Life: 13-17 hours on lowest brightness settings.) I would suggest the DSi XL over the smaller DSi if the price bump isn't too much of a concern to you, as you get bigger screens (easier to use the touch screen) and better battery life. To sum it all up: - If you want to migrate your Pokemon from the GBA games to the DS games, get the DS Lite. DS Lite also has the best battery life (15-19 hours on lowest brightness settings) - If you don't need to play physical GBA games and you want the most affordable DS you can get (that can also have the most value if you install a software mod), get the DSi. -If you want a DSi with bigger screens and better battery life (13-17 hours on the lowest brightness settings compared to the smaller DSi's 9-14 hours), then get the DSi XL. Honestly, I would argue that you should only consider the small DSi if you're planning to install the software mod on it, otherwise it's best to get the DSi XL if you want better battery life with bigger screens for a little extra, or the DS Lite if you need a GBA slot, because it's basically the same price as the small DSi, but with better battery life (15-19 hours on the lowest brightness setting compared to 9-14 hours on the DSi) and it can play physical GBA games. (The only physical aspect the DSi would have over the DS Lite is the DSi's better screens (Dual IPS) which make the colours look less washed out and provide better viewing angles. You get dual IPS screens on the DSi XL too, but the screens are also bigger.) TL;DR: -If you need a GBA Slot - DS Lite. (around $80 AUD) -If you don't need a GBA slot and don't care too much about battery life, but you're willing to potentially save a bit of money and install a software mod - DSi (also around $80 AUD) -If you don't mind sacrificing your ability to play physical GBA games and spending a little extra for a bigger screen and want the best DS experience overall - DSi XL. (around $100 AUD) I really hope this helps you out. P.S. I know this was a long reply, but I didn't know if you'd answer me straight away if I asked you questions in response to your question, you know? This was the best response I could give you, without asking you too many questions. The only questions I've got left are: - How much would you be willing to spend on a DS console? - Do you play GBA games on their physical cartridges? - Are you interested in playing 3DS games too? - Does the size of a handheld console matter to you? I hope you have a great day/night whenever you're reading this. :)
biggest recommendation to where to start, DS Lite because the backwards compatibility of the GBA games.
Aiden Knightprince13 absolutely 👍
Dsi xl cuz it has the best ips screens
@Felix Bana but it's bulky and ugly
The only downside of the DS Lite is that you can't play GBA games in Multiplayer.
True.
NDS was (and still is, of course) an awesome console. It have games for everyone, literally. You can enjoy really good FPS games, strategy games, visual novels, puzzles and A LOT of RPGs. The library of this console is HUGE.
When I saw that DS lite menu, nostalgia hit me hard.
In my humble opinion this is the best console ever made by Nintendo, ofc the Switch is probably going to beat it at some point, but is just ridiculous the amount of good games this console have.
Some other games I'd recommend on the DS for sure;
Mario and Luigi: Partners in time which is a prequel to Bowser's inside story. A lot of people don't like it but I love it.
Nintendogs is a surprisingly very fun game! I love looking after dogs even if it's virtual.
Zelda: Spirit Tracks is a game you should definitely try, especially if you liked Phantom Hourglass (I loved both)
The Legend of Spyro: a new beginning was a very interesting game I remember from my childhood which I unfortunately have never finished as I lost the cartridge. I would definitely recommend.
There are so many other games but I wanted to point out less popular/more forgotten about games
Hey! The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning was my very first DS game ever!
I’ve had a 3ds xl for 7 years now and I highly recommend it, it is AMAZING and very fun
1. Animal Crossing: Wild World
2. Super Mario 64 DS
3. Mario Kart DS
4. Brain Training
5. New Super Mario Bros.
6. Nintendogs
7. Zelda Spirit Tracks
8. Sonic Rush
9. Mario and Luigi Partners in Time

I'm wanting a DS, helped a lot! Thank you!
Yayy new video? It 2am here and i was about to sleep. Guess i will finish this first.
May we please see a video of your collection? 🙂
500 games, holy shit.. Across all of my consoles, I only have like less than 200.
Lol, the 500 in 1 DS multi cart? 😭🤣😭
The DS lite was the first handheld I had, and many a year was spent with it before the fire. We had a 3ds on layby before the fire and finished the pay with the insurance. I still miss it, and Soulsilver with pokewalker. Memories brother
TWLoader is essential. Pick up a 3DS XL and don't worry about the rest unless you're into having a ton of hardware and no save management
@@matthewwilliams8267 i have both, but also a gba and gbc
i just bought a 2ds from there and it came yesterday. Its such a steal and a good value!
Matthew Williams if you get a 3ds you get 3ds and ds games, if you buy a gameboy advance sp, you have access to all the gameboy libraries.
Segun The PikachuFan 3ds allows you to play all ds Pokémon games and 3ds and the original red and blue and gold, silver , crystal
You can play all generations up until 7 on 3ds
And now time to fix the comment
"You can play all generations(Except 3, part of 7 and 8) on 3DS" Ta-da!
first time watching your video with headphones on-- wow dat bass in your voice
If it were me I would get a New 3dsxl and a gba. You can then play like 99% of all the games.
You can play gba in the 3dsxl.
@@64bitmodels66 a said this beacuse the original comment, you don't need one gba if you have a 3dsxl.
I just use a new 3DS XL for everything, works perfectly
Gba so was way better than the OG Gba. That backlight was a game changer.
Chrono trigger Pokemon, nobunagas ambition, Mario, okami, and the entire gba library. The ds is amazing even now. Hell it's got a bunch of mystery dungeon games as well so that's a sell in it of itself
My DSi keep in chugging for a few years after I lost the charger
jose01234 u can go to Walmart and buy one in the electronics section [*i think*] just wanna help so ye
I think the 3ds has the same charger so you could get one
For the 3ds and dsi, you can still play gba games via homebrew!
I'm still stuck on the health and safety
Nice Video. The Nintendo DS was a great handheld device ^^
You can run DS game roms from your SD card on 2ds and 3ds
I loved how the original ds was compatible with game boy advance games. Especially when playing the original kingdom hearts chain of memories for the first time!
Get a DSi XL and an r4.
Looks way better than on a 3DS screen, and is noticeably bigger than the Lite
Still use mine. Battery life is great....and this system certainly made me happier over the years than Switch. Switch forcing the use of phone apps to communicate in-game pmtfo! I have 2 DS lites...neither have hinge problems but were both adult owned. They fit in your pockets.....great games.....awesome system.
Thanks man you really helped
im getting my very first ds lite tomorrow
Everyone mentions how DS games requiring slot 2 won't work on the DSi onward but won't clarify whether there would be an error or not
I've had mine for 11 years now, I got it for my 7th birthday. It is one of my favorite consoles, however I mostly just use it for pokemon nowadays!
The ds is one my favorite console of all time, mainly because of nostalgia and a huge part in my childhood as well as others.
I have Nintendo DS Lite now,
I got it back in 2007 and i still
play my pokemon series until now..
Very informative and complete video.
I have a DS Lite for DS and GBA games (perfect screen imo) and a New 3DS XL for 3DS games.
I have a DS still using now.

Me 3, Proud owner of a White 2DSXL! Fuck mobile phone games!
I don't like social games either.
I had a dream about me wanting a 2ds xl
Probably last chance to get a new one before scalpers ruin the prices.
ModelJames13
To be honest I’d always get $500.00 every month, to I’m seriously buying it, it even looks like a “console-toy” not gonna lie, I even played Kirby super star, witch was my favorite DS game of all time, so ya, I’m seriously hoping to get it for $149.99
@@nintendomain4956 You better hurry up. I just looked online and I'm shocked the price has already gone horrible at most places. You can still get one for $149.99 or less on eBay or at Best Buy but there aren't many left.
ModelJames13
I’m only getting it for 3 main reasons...
1. The New 2DS XL screen is 85% bigger
2. It’s Lightweight
3. The design looks perfect for me to use
The 2DS XL is amazing !
There's one pocket of my messenger bag devoted to my DS lite and a few games. I have it on me and ready at all times.

Can someone explain me about the 3ds coloring
I have a aqua blue og and it doesn't have silver color but i see lots in common have silver color out from the back so pls rep
Got this video as a recommendation and really enjoyed it! Very high quality material. I expect your channel to grow a lot. Cheers
Having Switch and New2dsXL I still think that DS Lite is the best handheld console: millions of great games, very compact, battery lasts forever and easy to charge, but the greatest feature is that you can play between friends without wi-fi connection while travelling.
my dream nintendo handheald is new nintendo 2ds xl but i cant buy it :(
3DS has to be THE ultimate retro machine as far as playing Nintendo games go. Heck, you can even play DOOM on 3DS with CFW.
yeah but switch can do all of that plus emulate PSX, N64, and even dreamcast.
My ds lite is my pokemon machine as well. 👍🏾 I want to get replacement shells for my fat DSs
Random question but how would you rank the Neptunia games based on fan service?
I've owned my DS for 9 years, and i finished every game i have
now i've got a new challenge in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue rescue team (Once i get it)
For Pokemon fans:
>buy Emerald, HGSS, and the DS Lite
>Beat Emerald, get at least one legendary and get to the Battle Tower
>clone all your legendaries and a Tower-eligible mon required to do so
>Beat HGSS and get to the Pal Park
>transfer all your Emerald clones to Pal Park
>transfer further to Gen 6 and up
>upload your legendaries to GTS and request for allowable mons you dont have
>congratulations, youve caught them all.
Pokémon black and white, super Mario 64, new super Mario bros and the Pokémon mystery dungeon series are my childhood 😍
Pokemon Platinum, and Black/White 2 are awesome choices also add SoulSilver and your golden
@@MERCENARYTAO1 That... Is something I didn't think about, yeah ds lite makes so much more sense
The 3DS Homebrew community is strong, so check out the subreddit r/3dshacks
Also, the DeSmuMe devs have a...
Amazing ds video
Thank you for not dissing Super Mario 64 DS. People always hate on that game for its strange controls with the Control Pad, but I think they need to shut up and play the game on a 3DS.
Agent D it’s much better thanks to the D-Pad
CharleZ Yes. I’ve never actually played the game on a 3DS before, but I enjoyed the game on my DSi XL when I was younger.
It's no good on a circle pad, since it was made for the dpad it skips rotations and movements sometimes. Not bad on the dpad though
Actually 2DS XL is discontinued, switch is the new handheld console
You should definitely play gen3 pokemon games, those were the peak in my opinion
ds lite has tons of games plus the gameboy slot for games...
the battery life is amazing, much better then a psp.
Can you play game boy advance games and original games on it like Pokémon yellow etc?
My DS Lite I’ve had forever just stopped working. I’m not sure what the problem is so I’m just gonna a get a new battery and hope for the best. What I’m trying to say is that you should get a DS Lite. They are brilliant.
Another thing is that inside the 3ds and dsi systems there still is the CPU of the gba, its there because ds games used that
Nice video
I am adding screen protectors to my ds lite, I believe I noticed you had some in your previous ds video from 2 years ago. Do you have any recommended brands?
DS Lite will always be my favorite ❤
(Mario kart ds credits song plays)

Wtf how old are you?
Hambu 47 13.
Just got a dsi today since I wanted to play Pokemon and animal crossing the way they were meant to be played and I cant put it down
Traded my ds lite for a DSiXL and use that to play my DS games.
My first DS was a blue DSi.
Get a couple DS roms on an SD card, pop that SD card in an R4 Card and you're set.
Already did with my 2DSxl with a 32gb Flash card. And yes I own almost every DS till I lost it, broke or just give it away up till my new one. Loving every second of it! Also, FUCK MOBILE PHONE GAMES LMFAO!
You don't even need an R4 card if you are able to get CFW on the 3DS. The only thing you would need to buy is a large SD card.
@@endarkened5153 you're not wrong
If I could go back in time I would definitely go back to the DS era and get more into the Handheld like I should’ve
Ds Lite or 3ds depending on if you want gba or 3ds games....
i am geting one for chrismas this yer
Eyy that's my Nintendo DS 2:24
Oh i see you have one of those 500 games in 1
Why did you disable the auto-captions?
Where can I get a DS Lite in good condition and cheap? Also why are Pokemon DS/Gameboy Advanced games so expensive? I should have kept my blue DS Lite and black Gameboy Advanced SP and all my Pokemon games
On Ebay you can get a ds lite in a very good condition I bought one there and It was in perfect condition and it cost like 30 dollars
Pokemon DS/Gameboy Advance games are so expensive cause they are the best in the entire series, also there's a lot of fake copies around driving up the price of the fewer real ones. Make sure you type in authentic when you search.
0:55 what game is this?
I'm patiently waiting 4 Wii one ^^
My first console was the DSi XL.
My first was a normal DSi xD
@@Mickeewin xD
My first console was a black DS Lite and then the blue DSi XL.
@@neverendinchaos4800 Mine was a DSi XL then a 3DS

;-;
Theres a ballpen refill-thing stuck in the penholder of my DS
7:36 what game?
I have a blue ds lite which my parents often take away for 2 to 3 months and I can't play it often.😥
also my l and r buttons don't work
when I ask them for it they just ignore me.
I have a similar problem, but my ds sometimes misteriously reapears at my room....
Lol what... I remember when I was in elementary school I could only play games on the weekends
R4 flash card
DS emulation is perfect for mobile for obvious reasons. My go to game is new super mario bros just for the mini games. Nintendo should make it a mobile game tbh, just the mini games.
Jokes on you I have DS, DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL, and New 2DS XL.
y?
@@golfwang425 I don't know
How to fix the yellowish screen on my DS Lite? Both top and buttom. It’s killing me 🤦🏻♂️
I just want to play heartgold soulsliver on a good affordable ds what do you recommmend?
If it's at all possible, I would recommend getting a DSi XL, if the only Pokemon games you want to play are on the DS. It has the very best screens for playing DS games. They are around $100 AUD. But, if you're planning to play the physical GBA Pokemon games too (or want to migrate your pokemon from the GBA games to HeartGold/SoulSilver), I would recommend the DS Lite as it has the GBA slot you need for migrating and playing the GBA Pokemon games. They are around $80 AUD.
Without touching on the 3DS systems (as they're more expensive), you have three choices:
- A DS Lite at around $80 AUD (plays DS and GBA games. Allows you to migrate pokemon from their GBA games to the DS games. Has a smaller form factor. Battery Life: 15-19 hours on lowest brightness settings.)
-A DSi at around $80 AUD (same as the DSi XL, but has a smaller form factor like the DS Lite. Battery Life: 9-14 hours on lowest brightness settings.)
- A DSi XL at around $100 AUD (only plays DS games (usually, but there is a free software mod you can do with an SD/microSD card that allows you to emulate Game Boy, GBC, GBA, NES, SNES and Sega Genesis on DSi systems.).
To sum it all up:
- If you want to migrate your Pokemon from the GBA games to the DS games, get the DS Lite. DS Lite also has the best battery life (15-19 hours on lowest brightness settings)
- If you don't need to play physical GBA games and you want the most affordable DS you can get (that can also have the most value if you install a software mod), get the DSi.
You get dual IPS screens on the DSi XL too, but the screens are also bigger.)
TL;DR:
-If you need a GBA Slot - DS Lite. (around $80 AUD)
-If you don't need a GBA slot and don't care too much about battery life, but you're willing to potentially save a bit of money and install a software mod - DSi (also around $80 AUD)
-If you don't mind sacrificing your ability to play physical GBA games and spending a little extra for a bigger screen and want the best DS experience overall - DSi XL. (around $100 AUD)
I really hope this helps you out.
P.S. I know this was a long reply, but I didn't know if you'd answer me straight away if I asked you questions in response to your question, you know? This was the best response I could give you, without asking you too many questions.
The only questions I've got left are:
- How much would you be willing to spend on a DS console?
- Do you play GBA games on their physical cartridges?
- Are you interested in playing 3DS games too?
- Does the size of a handheld console matter to you?
I hope you have a great day/night whenever you're reading this. :)
