- HORI is on a roll with their 3rd Party Nintendo Switch Accessories, but with this, they seem a little behind the times.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe released for the Switch ~2.5 years ago, but HORI is just now releasing a Mario Kart themed racing wheel setup. Two different models in fact; the Pro Mini and the Pro Deluxe.
They're expensive, so today, we're taking a look at the more "affordable" Pro Mini option to see if it's worthy of your hard-earned money and if it lives up to being a "Mini."

Hi! Does this work for MK8 on Wii U or Any other racing games on Switch?
It doesn't work at all on Wii U. As for games it works with on Switch, I've tested 26 games. Here's what it worked with:

Just an update of info for anybody to read. I tested the wheel in 17 games on PC across 4 different launchers and all but 1 worked. Here's what I tested that worked:
Dirt 5 on Xbox App
Forza Horizon 5 on Xbox App
Forza Horizon 4 on Xbox App
The Crew on Uplay
Grid Legends on Origin
Need For Speed: Heat on Origin
Need For Speed: Most Wanted on Origin
Crazy Taxi on Steam

Here's what didn't work:
Bus-Simulator 2012
Something to note, because the inputs on the Switch Joycons and Pro controller are digital and not analog, the pedals act as digital buttons in racers on Switch and don't offer varying degrees of acceleration depending on how hard your press. It's either go or don't, just like pressing ZR. I'm assuming this is a programming thing because the pedals are in fact analog. On PC, most games, minus Trackmania, detected the full range of motion of the pedals and allowed for slower acceleration. Dirt 5 specifically felt great with the wheel.
While I'm sure there's plenty of higher end wheels that aren't too much more expensive than this one for PC, it's not a bad purchase for the price, especially when you consider that it works on both Switch and PC. And if you can get it on sale, it's definitely worth getting especially if you got plenty of racers on both platforms.
Can you accelerate by using controls on the steering wheel instead of the peddles

What I would point out here is that the average sim racer pays around $ 300 for a steering wheel with all the bells and whistles that they want. At minimum.
$ 70 is absolutely a reasonable price for a racing wheel controller for Mario Kart
Ryan Parreno Not for this model. $75 is reasonable for their Deluxe version, but it’s too expensive for this Mini version.
Those $300 wheels are a bit more detailed and tuned to be more accurate than this thing. And if you have one of those, you don’t need to spend the money on this bad boy anyway, you’ve already got a better one 👍🏻
@@C1aYalC Funny you brought up already owning a racing wheel. Hey no worries! My 2 year old LOVES it. She doesn’t know exactly what she’s doing, but “having a wheel like daddy uses in the car” seems to make her happy haha.
This model is definitely aimed at kids, and is a nice little setup for them - is it worth the $75? I’m not so sure about that. If you could find it for $60, that would have been a sweet spot if HORI could have hit it.
Then again, I know the feeling when it comes to kids. If it makes them really happy and they enjoy it, maybe $75 isn’t so expensive

@@C1aYalC my only complaint is the tiny pedal board. Need to find a compatible full size replacement, otherwise the wheel is great, especially for the price.
I have the hori flight stick for my ps4 n it's well made! Those suction cups works great on a glass surface or metal or steel surface, well flat surface anyways lol! Wooden tables aren't the best n that's when u get the slipping of the cups. I use a glass surface n its actually very hard to remove my flight stick! So depending on the surface, those suction cups work really good, I was surprised!

The truly good wheel is the deluxe one. Has more options, more resistance and also up to 270 degree control.
Ahh, see that’s the one I wish I could have gotten my hands on at the time and done this video with both instead of only one. Glad to hear the Deluxe is actually good!
That clamp is a game changer on its own, let alone the foot rests on the pedals, the Z buttons on the wheel itself, and the fact that they once again have more resistance. The smaller one was made more for children, which makes sense. If you get the deluxe, you do lose the functional center button with the Mario emblem on it. On the deluxe it’s just decoration. Feels nice in the hand too. Granted, from what I understand it’s also a 1:1 match with the wheels they make in this line for the other consoles too, so if you’ve tried those you know what you’re getting.

Ya my dpad doesn’t seem to want to work. I can pretty much use a and b. Just got it but I will need to adjust it if I can. I tried it in game it’s fun but need to play with buttons to see what they do considering I can’t pick a character or what cup I want so I’m just playing the first one
Oh no! If it’s defective I’d say you would be able to get a replacement for it and send that one back! No fun to have a broken racing wheel

Hey there and no problem! While I can’t say it will 100% for certain, the fact that it works as a regular controller for non racing games, leads me to believe it would definitely work for other car games on the Switch. Since it’s USB, you could probably use it on other platforms, but again, I don’t know for sure. Though I don’t see why it wouldn’t - hope this helped!
I'm lost on how to connect this to the switch. Do I need to buy a Mario kart game first for the Nintendo switch? I'm so confused on how to set this up
What exactly are you having trouble with? The pedals have a cable that plugs into the wheel and the wheel has a USB cable that plugs into the USB port on the Switch’s dock.

The USB from the wheel can connect to any of the USB ports on the Switch Dock. On my original model there are 2 on the side and 1 on the back where you plug in the HDMI cable
My in laws are considering getting these for my three kids for mariokart 8. Can 1-4 steering wheels hook up to the switch?
I believe 3 may work? IIRC that's how many USB ports are on the dock and that's that you would need to use
This is actually 10 bucks more than the nes controllers. I would suggest getting this if you don’t know which.

Honestly, I’m not sure about that. The Switch seems a little finicky about what 3rd party controllers are supported. Someone else mentioned needing an adapter in order for other wheels to work.

I was wondering how the mini would be for an adult who doesn't want to shell out $100 😂 Is it worth it? I found it somewhere for like $47 but I don't know if it'll be too small to play it comfortably for the price
$47 is not bad for it honestly. It’s very small for an adult haha. Especially me being 6’3” 210, but it’s still very usable and fun.

Does this work with nintendo switch lite?
Maybe with a USB to USBC adapter? But since the Lite has no USB A connector it won't work out of the box without the adapter. Even then I don't know if it would actually work.

Hmm, I’ve not heard of this issue before - it may work to unplug it then plug everything back in. Might be an issue with the controller just having a little issue. I’ve not used mine in so long at this point

I would assume so, didn’t get to test it with Asphalt. But since it’s basically just emulating the motion of one of the sticks, it should have no problem working!

I would think so - it plugs in via USB and the Switch has multiple USB inputs.

It is a fine steering wheel. Definitely excellent quality. For $75 I think you can do better, but overall it is good.

Hey there! Are you still having trouble? What exactly seems to be the issue because I haven't really run into any problems. It was just a plug and play for me.
Does it work with switch lite?
I would say no since the wheel has to plug in with USB to the Switch dock, which the Lite doesn’t have. Maybe if you had a USB to USBC adapter it would work? Not sure though.
Is it possible to play burnout paradise remastered with it?
Honestly, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be. It would still function exactly like a controller.
I don’t have a way to test it, but I can’t see any reason why it shouldn’t work.

Yep, that’s basically all you need to do. Plug the pedals into the wheel and then the wheel’s USB cable into the Switch and you’re good to go.

Possibly not - it’s USB so you may be able to use it with a regular computer

Possibly? It’s a USB connection so I don’t see why not. I’m unable to test it sadly as I no longer have it so I can’t say 100%

Yes, it works on PC. And it works outside of Steam. Worked in games on the Xbox App, games on Origin, and games on Uplay.

Whatcha having problems with? The peddles plug into the wheel and the wheel plugs into the console through USB.
The Switch should recognize it as a controller right after it’s plugged in.

Good review, but the reason you have fewer subscribers, it's because your video is verbally lengthy, Try to put some text to summarize in the beginning with numbers. Pros and Cons, etc. Because your video is very restricted to the person who is very patient to watch till the end. and of course, nobody wants to subscribe.
Much appreciated, but I’m honestly not worried about subscribers or views at the end of the day. It’s all just fun for me.
