The 2 best things at the MSF are the corn and Martha's cookies. You guys did well. I agree with you....the heat is too oppressive to enjoy the MSF. "Pro move" Get Martha's Cookies on your way out of the fair so you can eat them on the way to the car and take them home to finish!
When i was young, we used to get a bucket of Sweet Martha's then go to the Dairy booth, buy a glass of cold milk for 5cents, go to the back of the milk line, eat your cookies & milk & by the time you get to the front of the line the milk was gone & you buy a fresh glass & repeat until you couldn't eat another bite.
7:51 It's because gravity is how you make water preasure and the midwest is so flat. In California our water containers are in the hills and that's how we make water preasure. Look around the hills in San Diego, you'll see the water tanks.
We do have a sweet corn festival in Minnesota every year in LeSeur. We used to go every years. Every family brings their own cake pan. If you purchase a button, you can have all you can eat. They bring in trucks full of tubs with hot corn on the cob in melted butter. People bring pans so they don't have to wait in line for 3 hours to get more. LeSeur used to be the home of green giant vegetables.
I need that big bacon on a stick, lol. Corn is the largest crop produced in the US with Minnesota being #4 on the states for corn production so that's why grilled corn is a popular thing at fairgrounds all over. Andrew, I'm with you on a boiled egg and at least for me, it's all that yolk. That texture is just wrong, lol.

I was surprised by the hesitation trying corn on the cob. It’s a popular choice pretty much everywhere during the American summer. Cooked on the grill is the best way to eat it. Mexican street corn kicks it up another ten levels.
Your smiles are so contagious. I caught myself smiling at the screen while watching your video. Even my husband was amused. Thanks for making our days. ❤❤❤
Olivia MN is Minnesota’s Corn Capital-they have a corn statue-it’s about 100 miles west of the Twin Cities. The Corn Belt is a region in the midwestern United States where corn and soybeans are the main crops, and where more land is used to grow corn than any other crop.
I forgot to mention, the healthiest thing imo you can get at the fair is from the gator stand...frozen grapes for $3. They are so very refreshing on those 90 degree days we get in late August.
What a fun and entertaining video as always. ♥ I thought that the LA county fair was the largest in the country. The last time I was there (around 1997) I got totally lost trying to find where I had parked my car. I needed a helicopter to find it. The Puyallup fair near Seattle is the biggest fair here in Washington State. Its pretty big, but no where near the size of this one in Minnesota. The Amish donuts and hummus had me drooling. The pickle pizza did not look very good though.
I found that peeps from over the pond think of corn as feed for livestock, especially corn on the cob. What you don't realize is that it is sweet corn and not feed corn. A true summer time delight. Only needs butter and salt and nothing else.
Its not much different from a hamburger. pizza just bread hehe, cheese, tomato, meat. and whatever toppings. Sounds weird but meh, its all the same in a different size.
Lots of comments to go through here so I’m not sure if it’s already been posted but… Pork chop on a stick with some fresh hand cut fries, or chips as you might call them, is absolutely amazing in a simplistic way. Also, corn dogs with nacho cheese instead of mustard/ketchup, is a game changer.
Just been to the NC State Fair. Oddities include: DILLY DOG: dill pickle stuffed with a real sausage meat, fried in panko bread crumbs and served with a creamy peanut butter sauce, COWBOY BITES: smoked white cheddar wiith pieces of brisket coated in bread crumbs, fried in a Texas-style rub, BATTERED BOLOGNA: thick cut (1/2 inch) bologna cut long like bacon, fried,on a stick with a mustard dipping sauce, SAUSAGE AND PEPPER EGGROLL: fried Chinese style with cherry peppers, sausage meat, cheese, spices, and onion sereved with a marinara dip.
I LOVE watching this, and seeing them eat things that as a midwesterner, and former resident of Minnesota, I have definitely taken for granted over the years. Thank you for your videos. You're always making me hungry!
I've had cheeseburger pizza in the past, which had pickles, hamburger, onions, bacon, mozzarella, and cheddar cheese on it, and it was very delicious, but I have never had just pickles on pizza. Definitely would try it though. My recommendation would have been the corndog, pronto pup, cheese curds (though you have tried them a couple of times already), grilled corn on the cob, fry bread tacos, fried ravioli, and the funnel cake. I've never had a scotch egg before, but would have loved to try one (like Nicola, I love hard boiled eggs). Finally, loved the thunderstorm story. Sorry you were stressed during it. Minnesota has over 10,000 lakes, which leads to a lot of heavy thunderstorms in the state, especially in the summer, which leads to high humidity and the large populations of mosquitoes (jokingly referred to as the Minnesota State Bird because there are so many) living there. Looking forward to the next video.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! We appreciate your recommendations and insights about Minnesota. We loved our visit to the fair and will be back in the future
I cannot believe no one recommended my late father's favorite--a trip to the dairy building for a chocolate malt and, of course, the chance to check out the butterheads.
We really appreciate you sharing your father's favorite spot! It’s always nice to hear about places that hold special memories. Next visit we will have to give it a try! Thanks for watching
You missed getting the recommended spicy brown mustard on the pretzel dog, and no mustard and ketchup on the corn dog. Ugh. 😂 Good video! Edited: You just pulled out the condiments!
I'm so glad you tried the Amish donuts! They are my favorite! And corn sounds so boring but it's delicious at the fair when it's grilled and dipped in butter ❤️ I'm trying to get my British friends to come for the fair next year so I'm going to send them this video!
Those doughnuts are so delicious! And the corn was so surprisingly good. Your friends should definitely plan a trip to the fair. Thanks for sharing the video and thank you for watching
If you ever come back to the MN State fair, I would recommend the following: Deep Fried Cheese Curds (Food Building), Hand Cut fresh French Fries., and the Galabaos (steamed bao buns) at the Union Hmong kitchen. Make sure you try them with the chili sauce. It is amazing.
Water towers store water so that during peak times (morning: showers, toilets, dishwashers, etc.) the available amount of water remains high and is naturally pressurized due to it's height. The water use continues throughout the day to partially drain the tank/tower. Because water use diminishes during the night, electric pumps move water back into the tank for the next day. Using water towers reduces the amount of pumps required, reduces the overall cost, ensures a near constant supply, and during times of electrical loss allow water to be supplied to homes (this could be due to storms or a short term loss of power on the grid).
Love you two! Land of 10000 lakes we are not having a drought, but water towers provide the water source for areas and are typically at the highest point in that area which provides a lot of natural water pressure…. I think!? We do grow a bit of corn, you were eating sweet corn on the cob. Native Minnesotan and the Fair is always fun.
Thanks for the insight! It’s fascinating to learn about how water towers work and the role they play in providing water across Minnesota. And sweet corn on the cob was delicious! The fair was such a great experience.

roasted corn is one of my favorite things to get at the county fair....besides the standard butter I usually put parmesan & mayo & chili powder if they have of those....funnel cake is a fair staple everywhere so everyone probably assumed you've already tried it before & was recommending things that were unique & popular or new & exciting to that particular state fair....there's state & county fairs btw....right now we've got our state fair going on here in Arizona....its a month long & has big name acts perform a concert all the time
@@thebritstry roasted corn is easy to do at home if you want to give it a try just soak the corn with the husk on & wrap it in aluminum foil & toss it on the grill for a bit....it hits different than just plain boiled corn lol....those toppings are usually what you find on something called street corn which is popular down around here
I'm from Iowa and there has always been a great debate and many jokes being tossed back and forth across state lines. All I can say since I've been to both state fairs the best one is the one you find your feet on. No matter you cannot see and do everything at either fair in just one week. I've also been to Texas, Oklahoma and California state fairs. I prefer our midwestern state fairs.
Why hello from pretty much straight north in Manitoba! Hope you really enjoyed your time in Minnesota, I've been down there several times and it's lovely. I've never gotten to the State Fair though, I really must do that some day.
A small pump can use very little electricity to constantly put water in the tower. Then being so tall, gravity (for free) will create enough pressure to push the water to all the homes.
Sweet corn season is so full of childhood memories for me. Many of my relatives had farms, so we would stuff ourselves with sweet corn, and go home with bags of sweet corn and tomatoes. Roasted/ grilled corn is the best.
I'm 59 years old and lived my whole life in KY. I've been to 14 different states, all over Kentucky and southern Indiana, and seen I don't even know how many water towers. I've never once wondered what they are for or how they work. They were always just there. Now you've awakened my curiosity. Butter and salt on corn on the cob is as common in America as peanut butter and jelly, biscuits & gravy, hamburgers & fries, grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup, mac & cheese, and apple pie with ice cream.
It's fascinating how the everyday things around us can spark curiosity! Water towers play such an important role in our communities. And I totally agree, butter and salt on corn on the cob is a classic combo!
Definitely 83 & full. It's the last weekend of the state fair here in Texas, The weather is beautiful. Glad you guys had fun! I'll be dreaming about a bucket of warm chocolate chip cookies 😉
I really enjoyed this video! Every bit of that food looked delicious! (well, maybe not the pickle pizza!) haha ;-) So glad you had a fun day exploring new foods! :-)
Corn on the cob (often on a stick) dipped in liquid butter is a state fair staple that can be found nation wide and is easily the best corn eating experience you'll ever have. Corn heard people call it boring and went to the fair and said "hold my beer."
If you like that Bacon and the sweet combo, you should try a PB and J sandwich with bacon, or even better make a Hamburger and put pepper jelly, crunchy peanut butter and bacon on it! So good
Yep, putting ketchup on any kind of sausage is a big social no-no in the Midwest. They might even run you out of town prodded by pitchforks in Wisconsin! State/County fairs in California sometimes have polish sausage on a stick, which is awesome. Never saw the term "corn dog" at any fair I have visited around the country, always "on a stick". Minnesota State Fair is the champion for "on a stick". items, but it get's ridiculous.
@@thebritstryyes, funnel cake is a MUST at any fair in the US but make sure they are making it fresh, makes all the difference. Basically it’s a sweet batter, sort of like pancake batter but a bit sweeter, that’s poured through a funnel into hot oil. They overlap the batter so it becomes a nest of fried dough. Flavor is kind of similar to a donut but they just dust it with icing sugar. So it’s like crispy, crunchy, soft and sweet. And you want it straight out of the fryer. I got one this summer that clearly was premade and what a disappointment! You lose the crispness as it sits and cooks down.
The pork chop on a stick which was about 100 feet south of where you first asked the lady where to go is the best thing there. It's always the first and last thing I get when I go.
I’m a Minnesotan, been to the State Fair a good number of times through the years. Not a big fan of corn dogs or Pronto Pups, but Pronto Pups are the way to go. You can get corn dogs anywhere, but Pronto Pups are harder to come by, so get one when you can-if you like hot dogs. Funnel cakes are good, especially with strawberry sauce and whip cream. Martha’s Cookies and the corn on the cob are probably the best two things to get there. That corn is really good; you guys put A LOT of salt on that thing. I’m surprised it didn’t wreck the corn’s taste. 😂 One thing worth mentioning: Gotta get a milkshake. Doesn’t matter if it’s vanilla, strawberry, or chocolate. All are good.
Some good looking food. My favorite form of hard-boiled eggs is deviled eggs. Hummus is one of those new foods that seems to be going mainstream. Funnel Cakes are something like a doughnut, sweet batter is swirled into hot oil ,fried, and dusted with powdered sugar when hot.

Oh this is so cool, I'm not from Minnesota but I live as close to the border of MN and Wisconsin as humanly possible and it's awesome to see our local festivals getting global recognition. It makes you appreciate the weird things in your region for sure!
It was a great experience! We love exploring the uniqueness of different regions! Thanks for watching.
I want to see the two of you in Minnesota in February. 105 and 83 now, and 40 below in February when all that rain you saw falls as snow. It will explain all of the food they have and giant Vikings you’ve been seeing.
Wow! That’s a massive change in temperature! Thanks for sharing
@@thebritstry interesting fact , 40 below Fahrenheit is the same temperature as 40 below Celsius, it’s where the 2 scales happen to meet, so damn cold is damn cold. You might want to get some specialized gear for that , head hands and feet as the saying goes
40 below is a massive exaggeration. -24 below isn’t uncommon. But -40 below in the Twin Cities hasn’t happened. In 1932 it was recorded at -36 below. Wind chill doesn’t count.
@@wtfminny neg 33 in 2019
@@ericfredenburgh4577 Minnesota. Not the Twin Cities. Believe me, it’s colder than-30 in northern Minnesota with some regularity. However, the fairgrounds aren’t up there.
7:50 Water tower are there to hold water at a height to provide pressure for the city's water supply. They are also there to provide water to the fire brigade as you would call them through those red fire hydrants.
Thank you for the information! The water tower at the fair was massive! Now we know why👍
As a Minnesotan, this gave me nothing but pure joy. Thank you!
Thank you so much for watching! We had a great time at the fair. We loved Minnesota
You guys are so fun! Thanks
Thanks for watching!
That’s enough cookies that you just start sharing with strangers.
You’re both just so lovely, I really enjoyed your video. Thanks for what you do. May your views and likes always be equal.
Thank you so much 🤗
The 2 best things at the MSF are the corn and Martha's cookies. You guys did well. I agree with you....the heat is too oppressive to enjoy the MSF. I've been most every summer for years and it's horrible when it's too hot. "Pro move" Get Martha's Cookies on your way out of the fair so you can eat them on the way to the car and take them home to finish!
Thanks for the tips! We were still eating those cookies days later, so good!😂
When i was young, we used to get a bucket of Sweet Martha's then go to the Dairy booth, buy a glass of cold milk for 5cents, go to the back of the milk line, eat your cookies & milk & by the time you get to the front of the line the milk was gone & you buy a fresh glass & repeat until you couldn't eat another bite.
Wow! That’s a great memory. Thanks for sharing
The free milk refills are the best!
Ha ha ha! When you were making your guesses on total steps, I shouted out to my screen 15,000! LOL
Very close! Thanks for sharing your guess
7:51 It's because gravity is how you make water preasure and the midwest is so flat. In California our water containers are in the hills and that's how we make water preasure. Look around the hills in San Diego, you'll see the water tanks.
Thanks for sharing the information! The water tank was huge!
I see the same thing in most of the mountain states like Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, etc
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! we totally get the bacon craving; it's hard to resist that crispy sweet goodness!
Snicker Salad!! A “Minnesota Salad that’s not really salad “ 😂❤️
Snicker Salad is definitely a unique treat! We will have to look that up!! Thanks for watching
All Minnesota salads are not really salads! 😂

Thank you. Thank you for watching
Such a sweet, fun video. Thanks for visiting Minnesota!

Thank you so much for watching! We had such a great time at the fair!
The better challenge would be... How many steps to burn off all of the calories you consumed at the fair...My guess is 22000 is way underestimated...😂
😂 That's a great idea!!
My family shares everything, so it isn't quite as bad. It allows us to enjoy way more food, spend way less money, and not feel guilty about the calories for 1 day. ❤
@scallums -Oh for sure. You'd almost need to fast for a few days too!
Minnesota born and raised here and I love the fair! You guys tried some new ones for me that I’ll have to try next year.
That's awesome to hear! The Minnesota State Fair is such a great experience, and we're glad we could introduce you to some new options. We would love to revisit and try some more items next year! Thanks for watching
@ I hope you guys do revisit! I’ll keep an eye out for ya! And be sure to travel to the north shore the next time you’re in Minnesota. It’s gorgeous!
I was surprised by the hesitation trying corn on the cob. It’s a popular choice pretty much everywhere during the American summer. Cooked on the grill is the best way to eat it. Mexican street corn kicks it up another ten levels.
Thanks for watching! It was such a surprise 😮 we have not tried it before but it was delicious!
Your culinary adventures notwithstanding, KUDOS for knowing that the Minnesota State Fair was the biggest (& the best) of them all!!
Thank you! The Minnesota State Fair truly is a culinary treasure trove.
I walked 28,000 steps @ the MN state fair one year ......but I was there for 10 hrs.
So easy to do when you are wandering around! Thanks for sharing

Comeback to New Orleans for the jazz and heritage festival, the food , the music, THE FOOD!!!!
We would love too! We will have to look into it for sure
Chocolate and bacon in ice cream is amazing. Sounds weird but it works together so well.
Do they grow corn in Minnesota? That's a funny question. We have massive amounts of corn.
It was delicious! Thanks for the clarification
Olivia MN is Minnesota’s Corn Capital-they have a corn statue-it’s about 100 miles west of the Twin Cities.
The Corn Belt is a region in the midwestern United States where corn and soybeans are the main crops, and where more land is used to grow corn than any other crop.
@@SarahManley my oldest daughter went to college in Morehead; the Cobbers
I forgot to mention, the healthiest thing imo you can get at the fair is from the gator stand...frozen grapes for $3. They are so very refreshing on those 90 degree days we get in late August.
Frozen grapes, huh? That sounds like a perfect way to cool off! Next time we'll have to try those.
What a fun and entertaining video as always. ♥
I thought that the LA county fair was the largest in the country.
Thank you for your very kind comment! The doughnuts and hummus were delicious,. The pickle pizza was very surprising we didn’t think we would like it
We’re more known for being the best state fair. I think Texas maybe larger by land mass
I found that peeps from over the pond think of corn as feed for livestock, especially corn on the cob. What you don't realize is that it is sweet corn and not feed corn. A true summer time delight. Only needs butter and salt and nothing else.
Butter and black pepper for me!
Pickle pizza is like a ploughman's lunch, cheese, pickle and bread.
😂 your right! We didn’t think of that. Thanks for watching
Its not much different from a hamburger. pizza just bread hehe, cheese, tomato, meat. and whatever toppings. Sounds weird but meh, its all the same in a different size.
Lots of comments to go through here so I’m not sure if it’s already been posted but…
Pork chop on a stick with some fresh hand cut fries, or chips as you might call them, is absolutely amazing in a simplistic way. Also, corn dogs with nacho cheese instead of mustard/ketchup, is a game changer.
Thanks for sharing your recommendations! Pork chop on a stick sounds delicious, and nacho cheese on corn dogs is definitely a unique twist! Next time
Just been to the NC State Fair.
Wow! They sound really interesting! We might have to try the NC fair next year
I LOVE watching this, and seeing them eat things that as a midwesterner, and former resident of Minnesota, I have definitely taken for granted over the years. Thank you for your videos. You're always making me hungry!
I'm so glad to hear that! It's amazing how food can bring back those nostalgic memories. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
Happy to have found your channel. You're both such a joy to watch.❤
Thank you so much!😊 we appreciate you taking the time to watch!
Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes, it doesn’t usually have a drought
More likely flooding
Thank you for visiting my state. I hope that you had a lovely time. I'm surprised no one suggested fried cheese curds. Those are my favorite.
We’re glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for the suggestion 😊
Water pressure is why water towers exist in a flat landscape wa has trouble flowing so a pump umps water into the tower to maintain good pressure
Thanks for the info! And for taking the time to explain
I'm with Andrew about boiled eggs. No! Thanks for a great video.
Yeah, there is something about hard boiled eggs you either love or hate. Thanks for watching
We’ll add those to our list for next time! We’re always looking for good food suggestions! Thanks for watching
Thanks for sharing your detailed explanation! We do not have any in the UK
Great explanation!
You have got to come to Clevceland, Ohio and try the polish boy.l You will be overwhelemed with delisciousness
Thanks for the suggestion! We will add it to the list and get there in the future!
We do grow corn here! I live in rural Minnesota and my family farms (both corn and soybeans). Corn on the cob is one of my favorites! My grandma used to can corn (taking it off the cob), so we could enjoy it all year round.
Thank you for sharing your story! It’s wonderful to hear about your family’s farming traditions and love for corn. It sounds like you have some great memories!
roasted corn is one of my favorite things to get at the county fair....besides the standard butter I usually put parmesan & mayo & chili powder if they have of those....funnel cake is a fair staple everywhere so everyone probably assumed you've already tried it before & was recommending things that were unique & popular or new & exciting to that particular state fair....there's state & county fairs btw....right now we've got our state fair going on here in Arizona....its a month long & has big name acts perform a concert all the time
Thanks for watching! Roasted corn was such a classic fair treat! Love the idea of your toppings combo, We will have to give that a try next time!
Great point!!! we would love to visit more in the future. thanks for the list of ideas😊Thanks for watching
The best time to go to the state fair is when it’s raining imo!
You are probably right! But they do seem to have great systems in place and the lines do seem to move quickly
Why hello from pretty much straight north in Manitoba! Hope you really enjoyed your time in Minnesota, I've been down there several times and it's lovely. I've never gotten to the State Fair though, I really must do that some day.
Funnel Cakes are a fair / carnival staple.
Thanks for sharing!!! we still need to try one!!! next time for sure
OMG love you both you two are like Soul Mates! Love it. Made my day!
Wow, thank you! Your post has made our day! Thanks for your kind words
A small pump can use very little electricity to constantly put water in the tower. Then being so tall, gravity (for free) will create enough pressure to push the water to all the homes.
Thank you for your insight and the information! It was massive.
Sweet corn season is so full of childhood memories for me. Many of my relatives had farms, so we would stuff ourselves with sweet corn, and go home with bags of sweet corn and tomatoes. Roasted/ grilled corn is the best.
We really enjoyed the sweet corn any it surprised us! Thanks for sharing your memories
My husband and I take three days to cover all that we want to see. We always end our time at the fair with a ride on the Space Needle.
That's a great idea! And a great way to spend time together. Thank you for sharing

Thank you. Best state fair period. Im si glad you came. The corn and the cookies. The cheese curds
So good! We had a great time
Corn on the cob (often on a stick) dipped in liquid butter is a state fair staple that can be found nation wide and is easily the best corn eating experience you'll ever have. Corn heard people call it boring and went to the fair and said "hold my beer."
😂so true ! I thought I was going to have to drag Andrew away screaming, as he wanted to get more
If you like that Bacon and the sweet combo, you should try a PB and J sandwich with bacon, or even better make a Hamburger and put pepper jelly, crunchy peanut butter and bacon on it! So good
The hummus bowl looked amazing
It really was! We didn’t expect to be eating that at the fair but we would recommend it
I’ve loved everything I’ve ever eaten at the Minnesota state fair. Everyone should check out the Minnesota state fair.
Absolutely! It was a great experience. Thanks for watching
Never put catsup on a hotdog or sausage. Always get a funnel cake. That's all I got. Thanks.
We appreciate your input! we still have to try a Funnel cake! next time for sure! Thanks for watching
I live here in Minnesota and the corn is grown here, and yes it's one of the staples of the state
Ketchup is not tomato sauce. At least in the USA. Tomato sauce comes in a can and isn't seasoned like ketchup.
Thanks for the clarification! In the Uk we call ketchup, tomato sauce. Funny how things have different names and meanings. Thanks for watching
Did you ride the cable car gondola thing?
Absolutely! It was so fun to see the fair from above.
@@thebritstry Space needle, giant slide, dairy building? BTW sweet corn is a diffident plant than feed-corn.

I was surprised it wasn't suggested. I prefer the one on the south end near the haunted house.
You need to put ketchup and mustard on the corndog!
We did! It was delicious 😋 thank you for watching
Who raised you?
One thing worth mentioning: Gotta get a milkshake.
Deviled eggs are such a classic! I love them but Andrew is not so sure! Thanks for watching
I just made 1 deviled egg today, and chopped it up on my salad with ranch dressing.
You must try an "elote"
It's Mexican corn on the cob. It's slathered with mayonnaise, lime juice, crumbled cheese, and chili powder. It tastes amazing!
Thanks for the tips! Sounds very interesting we will definitely search one out.
