Sobbing at the first end though, oh my god, the reflection of younger Noct in Iggy's glasses and the fact that Noctis still smiles the same way he did as a kid. I'm sorry I ever had doubts about how incredible Ignis is as a character. Best brother EVER.

People can't live without their chef, deal with it. And who would drive?
What Ignis actually did is to flip the middle finger on Ardyn's so far flawless plan and spit on the destiny chosen by gods, which ends up in creating an alternate timeline where Noctis completes his ascension.
Wasn't it that Ignis did sacrifice his entire life to defeat Ardyn in that crucial moment, but Noct and the others happened to come *just* in time to prevent his death? At the point where they discover Ignis, the contract has been essentially fulfilled, the sacrifice made to safe the true king. Hadn't they arrived in time, Ignis *would* have died. "Please help me protect my friends" and cue the magic going in right after is what safed Ignis life. And in my own interpretation, I think it was really just seconds before his death, as I see him having lost consciousness by the time Noct is begging for help already. It looks to me as if he is stirring awake again once that magic reaches him. And after that he still needed time to recover in bed first before telling everyone what happened and proceeding to make preparations.
So I'd say that whole sacrificing thing checks out.

Yeah And he will stay blind cripple for the rest of the game :D He played his role well for supporting characters. They are mostly killed, crippled they should not be heroes just sacrifices. Noctis is a villain in the end and Ardyn should be the hero (he brought down Niflheim by himself).

Shit. Darin de Paul did such a great job with Ardyn. It's a shame the game had so many flaws because his work on Ardyn was almost perfect. And it messes me up to even reconcile his Reinhardt voice to Ardyn. They're so different.

So the brother of Ardyn stole the throne from Ardyn...sounds like the Lion King story but as if Scar went on to have a lineage and Mufasa is still alive and ploting to end Scar's line
Felix Sopowera The developers did say the game's story drew parallels to Hamlet, which is what the Lion King was based on. In a manner of speaking they weren't lying, but we were all wrong about who represented who.
You are actually on point. This game was inspired by Hamlet, one of the most famous Shakespearean tragedies. Which is the same story that the Lion King is based off of. (well if you want to get technical the lion king is based on Kimba the Lion which is based on Hamlet).

@@elitebelt except if you watch the anime episode and play his DLC you'll find out Ardyn WASN'T the dickhead, SOMNUS was and it actually makes Noctis's family the "technical" bad guys. If you look at it that way that is. Which is how I ended up seeing things. Somnus was an asshole through and through. Ardyn was a sweetheart.
Now I'd like to see an episode "Ardyn". It should be based around the time leading up to his brother's treachery...it would be interesting but doubt it'd happen.

These are not necessarily "better" endings. Iggy doesn't kill Ardyn in these cases, he just sort of banishes him for an unknown amount of time. Ardyn is immortal unless his darkness is absorbed by the one true king. Noctis still has to eventually fight him in these endings and he could die the same way he did before.
I interpreted it as Ignis sacrificing himself to kill ardyn, and this is the reason Noctis doesn't die at the end in this ending

This ending is now the canon ending, and not even Square Enix can tell me different, there was LITIRALLY NO REASON TO KILL EVERYONE, JUST SEND IN IGNIS to kill Adryn and let Noct finish him off HAPPY ENDING there was no reason to kill everyone and blund poor Iggy!! 😭
It's cool to see a happy ending, but I prefer the sad original ending, because it felt more real.

Honestly the ending wasn't even that much of a tragedy, Noctis and the gang fulfilled their quest. And Noct was able to spend his afterlife with Luna. It was sad but I don't think it was a tragedy.
I'm not gonna lie: when I played Episode Ignis and got the game over ending (the last one) I jumped due to the sudden close up of Ardyn's face (starting at 40:27). I wasn't expecting it to happen at all.

Best DLC in the game! Great story that puts on the feels, different endings so a branched storyline too. Fantastic music, great gameplay and gorgeous graphics. 9/10!

Was ardyn really going to stab noct? He stabbed luna in a speed of lighting and he took his time trying to stab noct.
I thought the 2nd ending was the way to go but I remember that the king must give his life to banish the darkness.If noct is still alive he failed to do his job as a king.
He was never going to stab Noctis. Maybe he would of killed Ravus. Mostly Arydn would mess them up a bit but had no intention of killing them. So really In a sad way Ignis went blind for nothing
Just look at Ardyn's face every time, they do the opposite of what he taunts them to do, he has this refreshed looked in his face. Same face he had before she stabbed Luna.
Ignis already paid the price of sacrificing his life. He was already dying until Noctis healed him with the crystal. They killed Ardyn at the end, together.
I think the purpose of the alternate ending is that Ignis gives his life as the sacrifice instead of Noct having to give his. It's just that the powerful, magical healing powers of the crystal and possibly Luna's ghost/spirit save him at Noct's request. I mean, it's not super clear. But then again, the main game wasn't clear either. So it's not like the logic behind it is worse than the logic behind the main game.
Hearing this is the book's canon ending makes me SO happy
Anyway, people say "play ep Ignis after the main story", how am I to change the main story if I don't play it till the end? Will I stop Ignis for being blind if I choose alternative end? Even if I play it after Altissia, things already happened, how that changes anything?
it doesn't affect main Story, but fills what the guys were doing during the Altissia and how Ignis lost his sight. I assume ppl suggest the Ep is either because Ignis is Satan himself (and we now see it) or his Episode is that good.
Personally I lean more towards Satan with out he went at Ardyn to keep Noct alive with them.

Finally someone understands me a little bit. Other people think that this is best ending what is best??? This alternate so called best ending is joke and not a good one. Gamplay isk ok but Square should focus on filling up the second part of the game with enemies so we could explore the other continents. And not watching shit about cry baby fuck cook Iggy. Why try to change his persona. Pathetic. And they disgraced Ardyn fight. Fucking Square you messed up again. He should be beaten down by Ardyn like a dog. And what do i get a boss that is not even trying XD. What a shit waste of our money.
I would aknowledge an alternate more gruesome ending if it was part of the real game not a DLC shit.... and you would have made choices for it but not just click. Like Noctis going Evil that I would dig. Where he survives and becomes ruler of the world but evil. And to become he would have to fight a murder his friends :D and his beloved bride Luna and Ravus, Ifrit annd Ardyn (twist Ardyn would poses him). Ok hold on. I didn’t like this ending because of the STORY. The fight made complete sense to me because Ardyn is probably the most powerful living thing in the world other than Noctis. It makes sense that Ardyn wasn’t trying since he sees someone like Ignis as a waste of time. And Ignis is definitely not a cry baby, I’m not sure where you got that from
First he shouts like fuck almost every time Noooooct. You can see a little tears when he tries harder to protect shitty Noct. And he tries to hard. Sorry but Ignis for me will always be only a cook...strategist not a hero. And I do not agree with your logic. Ardyn is demigod with millions or countless deamons absorbed. Even if Ignis tried harder from my point of view he could not beat Ardyn in milion years... No offence the Ignis vs Ardyn was forced.
Like a real baby would win a fight against a hungry adult full blown tiger or a lion. You get the picture I hope. It is just forced and fan service to some people.
And one more thing an ending that is not part of the game and influenced by string of choices (hard choices) is not even an alternate ending. It is just waste of time and money. And yeah I hate it. :D
Oh and there is one major plot hole in this shitty DLC How the fuck did they (rest of band) arrived to the top of the Zagnattus Keep when the jamming device for the crystal was active??? Noctis, Gladio, Prompto should have died. No power of the Crystal = fuck die. The jammer does not affect the power of the ring. Ignis has the ring. So when you think harder about the alternate shit story has just....not finished and not thought through enough.
Hope they do better job with Ardyn DLC...

I loved this DLC! So much more story that the game needed. Ignis turned out to be probably the best bro out of everyone, Ravus is such a good and interesting character, so glad he had more development. Showed more about how the empire fell, everyone just back stabs each other so it's no wonder it fell apart. Ravus grieving over Luna, fighting Ravus and then Arydn appears to stir things up. Not to mention we get a new ending with Noctis still alive and Ignis seeing Noctis while blind. Only thing I didn't like was they showed way too much of the original ending, the idea was good but they didn't need to show THAT much. So yeah great episode with lovely music too.

What's implied is that like Regis and other kings he died serving the kingdom and crown of Lucis.
Ardyn was a healer, like Luna, absorbing the Starscourge, Plague of the Stars.
He eventually absorbed so much that he became immortal and shunned by the Gods/Astrals and the crystal for his impurity
Episode ignis apoilers ahead but in the alt ending he confirms that his brother was the founder king, all of the kings conciousnesses are in the ring, which at this point is in ignis' posession so he could be hearing the real izunia's voice, its implied by ignis and ardyn that Ardyn's brother took his name when he took the throne
So Ardyn would've been rightful heir to the Throne until he was impure - so if Izunia stole his name then that means Ardyn was indeed the founder king originally - thats my point
But yeah I want to know what's all this Izunia business about, what actually happened between them two... what happened with the Cosmogony... The Crystal... who or what is it etc

So the way I was understanding what happened at the alternate ending is Iggy weakened Arydn so that Noct wouldn't have to kill himself to gain the power necessary to banish him. Iggy would have died in the process but Noct cheated by using the crystal to replenish his body lol. Well I liked the alternate ending the same as I liked the original.
Well I personally thought that neither of them were alive in that ending and it was just an afterlife dream like the ending with Noct and Luna together. I'm fairly certain that in order for Noct to do his job right, he needs to sacrifice himself; so I presumed that if Ignis is there with him then they must both be dead. Either way, I thought it was a weird outcome.

The alternative end is better than the real end.. Noct can supervise his subordinate with help from Ignis.. ppl like Verstael will not in the Royal command.. just search Ardyn and lock him and maybe Ardyn gonna open his heart a little to Noctis and Noctis gonna let him free like he wants.. to helping other and not be a king.. Ardyn never intended to seek revenge to Lucis's family until Verstale mock him.. It is possible to make Ardyn stop his thrist of revenge.. cuz what Ignis do really mess Bahamut plan and also it's rewrite Noctis and Ardyn fate

Alex Ross It's pointless. The reason that it's a pointless option is because you'll go into battle with Ardyn, but you won't be able to defeat him. Once that happens, you'll Loop you right back to where you'll have to choose between sacrificing your life and giving up.

Can someone tell me if in the ending when the boys go and rescue him and Noctis helps him and all that, did Ignis got off of being blind after all in the alternate ending?? I have that big doubt, because after that he is with his eyes open all the time normally, not like in the original one, that he has it closed almost all the time because in those he can't really see

He gains the full power of the ring, and has to kill Ardyn within a time limit. THe ending is the "Noct lives" ending, but the boss fight changes, because of the time limit, and that Ignis's attacks become MUCH more powerful

You have to play it the second time. You get the option to start exactly at that again. There is the Verse 2 Option
If i remember right I think there will be a Save file just before the Ardyn cutscene at the Alter, that is when you can pick "Play Along"
